I just recently discovered Cazador on my way to Vault 22 and they killed Rex, Veronica and me about 20 times, in the end I loaded an oldish save to get past them. I'm level 14 with like 84 Gun skill and can't get beat them at all.

Incidentally, I'm level 14 and haven't gotten inside the Strip yet, not sure if that's how it should've worked out or not.
They killed Rex? How? My rex only gets knocked out.

OT: Cazadors rip me apart as well but I havent hit a part of the game yet where I am not capable enough to get through.
I'm playing Hardcore Mode, if that makes a difference? Everyone is killable in my game.

When you have buggy, stupid AI, artificially enhanced stats are the only real way to make an encounter difficult.

Scorpion Gulch.
I died a good... dozen times there.

I've barely started the game too. Having just passed through Nipton I tried to move on to Novac, but was chased off by Viper gang ambushers. So rather than follow the road I tried to beeline to Novac cross country.
This boiled down to two routes:

-Scorpion Gulch, the flimsy Bark Scorpions are no match, but when dozens of giant radscorpions leap from the overhanging rocks to riddle you with toxic love, there's no way to fight back when you're protected by pads of cheap cardboard and are feebly swinging a meat cleaver.

-A seemingly clear run. First sign things go bad: Powder Gangers East camp. Easy enough to clear, a few sticks of dynamite and some opportunist shotgun blasts and this is all yours.
Second sign: A corpse, of a ghoul in a robe. Follower of some cult or another. Third sign: Red blip coming from the rock behind this corpse. Fourth sign: DEATHCLAW IN YOUR FACE.
Insultingly it was a 'blind Deathclaw', that didn't stop it from stampeding through the narrow crevice to administer creative facial surgery while I desperately tried to bring it down with some VATS shotgun firing.

I've since gone back to the road that I was meant to go, and haven't looked back since. No ambushers around, and I'm just fortunate I don't have to go near Scorpion Gulch, or the sasquatch Deathclaw ever again. ... I hope.

Oh, okay. Thats probably it. If my Rex could die he wouldn't have made it halfway to JacobsTown because of Cazadors.

I got hated with Ceasar's Legion early on in the game
because i killed the group of legion guys that killed everyone in Nipet and burned the town
bit later i was travelling to Novec and on the way a yellow mark came up on my radar, i looked in the direction of it and saw an NPC called "Legion Assassin" all of a sudden 8 more of them appeared behind him they weren't hostile so i didn't do anything. When they got up to me one of them spoke and said "You have been marked for death by the Legion and we obey, prepare for battle" then they all whipped out machine guns and turned me and my companion into swiss cheese. I was dead in literally seconds i barely had time to get my weapon ready. After many failed attempts at killing them i decided to try and sneak my way passed to Novec, i managed to get there and the fuckers were there to and killed me again. So i decided to head back to Goodsprings/Primm and other previous places and try and find more side quests to level up. The fuckers were in Goodsprings too. Seem's once you're marked you can't escape them.

So i had to start a new game after playing 6 hours because they killed me in seconds an i could barely fight back and no matter where i went the group of assassins always found me. So little tip don't piss off Ceasar's Legion too early in the game.

My favorite moment like this was when I was exploring Camp Searchlight (the town way in the south that was an NCR base until the Legion came in and irradiated the whole thing). I walked into the firehouse and there I saw it. From left to right in the room, the room was filled as follows: Truck, Truck, Radscorpion x2, and a Radscorpion Queen.

Now, that wouldn't have been so bad, but the Radscorpion Queen was the same size as the trucks, and she took off about 15% of my health with every attack.

I was just exploring aimlessly when I first ran into them and they slaughtered me repeatedly, mainly because my companions kept running right at them from miles away and getting murdered. I only reloaded the save because I couldn't seem to stop them from behaving like dummies. Now I just avoid Cazadors whenever possible.

Those things are brutal. New Vegas has more than a few monsters that are a little too strong for low level characters. Even at higher levels... its a little crazy. >_>

I have leveled up. This isn't my first RPG. I'm a Bethesda vet. If no one else is experiencing this, then I'm wondering if this is a bug. 8 Strength, 84 in melee and my attacks are barely hurting them. Weapon is in great condition as well.
im pretty sure it has to do with the dps mechanics, between those flying critters and giant radscorpions, i get railed if i try and come at them with any of my average guns, usually i have to pull out "that gun" (funny use of the title) to decimate them like anything else in one or two shots.

I'm sure melee attacks DON'T work on deathclaws.Too bad there's no alien blaster because in fallout 3 that was basically insurance it not dying.....well that's actually better because now you'll have to fucking WORK!

new title:NEW VEGAS MAKES YOU FUCKING WORK FOR COMPLETION,NO MORE ALIEN BLASTER INSURANCE!
You, my good sir, have not explored quite enough.

I hate Cazador's. I don't even know how two of them snuck up on me. If it weren't for Boone, I'd have been dead.

OT: Vault 34. I went in at Level 8-ish with no Radaway's, 4 Stimpacks, and barely any ammo. I managed to get pretty far in until I ran into a pack of Glowing Ones. I had over 600 rads, no Stimpacks, and barely any ammo. I ran.

Luckily, I only encountered two assassins. The NCR was patrolling about 100 feet away, so all I had to do was run to them.

"Well, I'm just going to go along here, la la la, oh, hey, a blind deathclaw, that's new. Veronica, punch it's arm off. Good Veronica. Oh hey, a building, let's see what's around this corner. Oh, wow, another Deathclaw. And another. And another. And another.
Well, shit."
All this form a level 21.
Deathclaws are fucking brutal in this game. AND IT'S AWESOME.

that's fallout 2 for you. YOU DONT GO off the trade routes and roads. there are MANY WARNINGS telling you that deathclaws are ahead.
Just a shame that Deathclaws sometimes wander outside of these warnings. Which is great for a low level character.

Seriously, I'm not opposed to these areas, but I wish they didn't put them right near the tutorial town.
Everyone in Goodsprings warns you "Not to go north because there are critters up there that just get madder when you shoot them"
Yeah, critters.

This is a critter:
This is not a motherfucking critter.

My attempts at exploration are constantly being thwarted, by an enemy no man can conquer. It is invincible, immune to pain, and can not bee seen coming. and every time I meet it, I must lower my head in disappointment, for I know I will not get past it. It is the bane of every explorer; the dreaded invisible wall.

Seriously, this fucker shows up way to much. It's really hurting my opinion of this game. The invisible wall rarely appeared in Fallout 3, unless you went to the end of the world. But in New Vegas, he is everywhere. Constantly taunting your attempts to explore the unknown. Basically a big fuck you from the game developers, as to were to lazy to design the environment properly so they wouldn't need invisible walls.

Nothing kills my immersion faster than hitting an invisible wall.
New Vegas is set in Las Vegas, which is surrounded by desert.

So instead of invisible walls, why didn't they just use the surrounding desert as a barrier?

If you wandered out there your health will start to decrease. The farther you go the more it decreases. It does this because your in a harsh desert and the elements are deadly.

At night it would be cold, since nights in deserts are notoriously cold, so it could say your slowly freezing to death.

Is it perfect, no. You could still poke holes in the logic, but it would be a hell of a lot better then walls you can't see.

There is an alien blaster actually!!! but you have to take the "wild wasteland" perk from the beginning to get aliens. So if you didn't then you'll have to start all over to get it. Source: I have the guide.
