An earthquake has hit Christchurch, New Zealand, measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale.

I haven't seen anything on the forums about it, figured I should spread the word.

Live updates can be found here. [http://www.news.com.au/world/quake-aftershock-hits-christchurch/story-e6frfkyi-1226009960218]

UPDATE: The Red Cross is asking for donations, click here if you want to help out. [http://www.redcross.org.nz/donate]

I cant wait till the WBC gets their hands on this.

Anyway, I know this is bad to say, but while I feel bad for the people, This kinda loses its potentency when there's stories like this constantly coming out in Earthquake season. That entire area is on a major fault line or something. Then again, I'm kinda tired.

But I hope they get the help they need and everythign works out as well as it can.

I didn't hear about it! My friend has family there so I'm concerned for them now.

Never been in an earthquake myself. Living in Saskatchewan for most of your life doesn't give you any examples to relate to.

Until September last year Christchurch was considered "safe" from earthquakes, with no major fault lines anywhere it.

A small earthquake tremor hit Windsor last year. Probably 4 point something on the Richter Scale, enough to wake you up. There was another one a few years back that put some fear in me as well.

I was on the bus when it happened. I thought the wheel was coming off the bus or something. The damage out here in Hornby seems relatively minor. University has been closed so now I can play more Fallout NV. Hopefully I can volunteer to help later on though. Once the bodies have been cleared.

Not to mention the bushfires out W.A. way.

I had family up in QLD during the floods (I live in Sydney) and it scared the hell outta me. Now I hear that one of my close friends' family was in Christchurch during the quake. Nature, please stop trying to give me a coronary!

Seriously what the hell did we do! Fires, floods, cyclones and now a earthquake? I'm starting to wonder if the 2012 apocalypse thing might actually happen. That would be so typical 'Hey I'm mother earth, I'm going to hell and I've decided to completly explode on December 21st 2012 just to screw with you'

Well...the distance between Perth and Christchurch is comparable to the distance between Cairo and Cardiff. I hope they are ok over there, what with their riots and...um...Torchwood.

Having said that, though, the death toll from the quake is currently about 5 times the death toll of the floods, in a nation with 1/5 the population. The ratio of casualties to inhabitants is close to when the WTC was destroyed.

I live in Chile =D, thank god my house wasn't destroyed last year with the 8.8 :p, although this week there has been minor quakes in the southern country, geologist said that
1) A lot of small quakes are coming reacomodating the plaques
2) a Big one similar to the one in 2010 will come again.

Last year only a couple things broke in my house, nothing seriuos, although my pool got drained about 30cms.

My Sister-in-law hails from Christchurch, we're still waiting to hear about her family that live there.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all you kiwis that way. Stay safe!
