I know this will be a long time now, but, what do you think the next consoles for Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft will be like?

I expect the next Nintendo thing to be a Wii HD , the next MS will probably be a console with improved graphics , and full digital distribution . And I suspect Sony will stay with the PS3 for the second generation in a row , if it really is as powerful as they say . ( and also because they already have the next generation of disc , Blu-Ray)

uh, my guesses:

Sony PS4
XBox 360 squared

I don't know for Nintendo, but it will be a while... The Wii jus needs better games as a whole. Oh wait, the Wii 3D!

Sony will try to replicate the PS2 success, aiming for a functional console to go under the grunt of the Xbox sequel.

Aiming for an early release, they will open with guns blazing on the new releases. Aiming to go for the lowest common denominator in terms of traditional games, rather than 'Wii-isms' or casual titles.

Overall, expect a massive shift towards online play (we 'aint seen nothing yet). Given how technology is going, graphics may take a back seat. Consoles will aim towards being developer friendly, hoping to win in a titles war by attracting producers to them with easy interfaces and systems they can immediately grasp.

Think on what the PS2 could do towards the end of it's life compared to the start. Now, imagine aiming for that quality right from the get-go. Thats what i hope to see from the next generation. Graphically, i'm appeased, i want to see innovation and impressive stories. Gameplay twists and crazy concoctions.

And Resistance 3, with 200 player multiplayer.

Or the impossible could happen and Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo work together to build one console and unite every gamer under one flag and everyone would be able to enjoy what each company has to offer. One can dream...

I wish, but I doubt there will ever be that kind of cooperation.

How is lack of competition a dream? It would ruin the entire industry for consumers.
Alas this is true, I love having competition in the market, pushes new ideas.

Honestly i dont have any understanding of business, but why compete when you can just create a game that everyone could enjoy on a single console? I mean whoever produced it would get the money for it and you would also have everyone buying that game not just the few who bought their console of choice.

You said it yourself.

Hm, never knew that even existed lol. Need to pay attention more in my government and economy classes. Sounds like a good idea to have one console until you get into the specifics.

I have heard that Microsoft and Nintendo will have theirs out by 2010 and Sony at 2012, however since we've heard little news about the new consoles and that's a completely unsubstantiated rumor, I highly doubt those dates are true.

People don't seem to understand how business works, if there is one console, there is no choice,if there's no choice, there's no drive to improve, look at the damn Atari back when there was no real competition. with out competition we wouldn't even be at this Gens graphics, there wouldn't be a need to improve.

so please, THINK before you make statements, don't think is true? look at the quality of ANYTHING once competition is removed. Look at wrestling, once the competition was gone the quality dropped hard.

Edit: Also you think they would improve 'out of the goodness of their hearts' but they wouldn't why make more work when your the only option?
HAha, that wrestling statement is so true. When it was WCW, ECW and WWF fighting against each other... That was just amazing.

Now it's just bad actors, and generic SHIT. Just like gaming would become if say, Sony bought out Microsoft and Nintendo.
