Or the impossible could happen and Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo work together to build one console and unite every gamer under one flag and everyone would be able to enjoy what each company has to offer. One can dream...
How is lack of competition a dream? It would ruin the entire industry for consumers.
Honestly i dont have any understanding of business, but why compete when you can just create a game that everyone could enjoy on a single console? I mean whoever produced it would get the money for it and you would also have everyone buying that game not just the few who bought their console of choice.
I think I could sell you into a communist lifestyle my friend.

I don't really give a shit what Nintendo does unless they catch up instantly to the success of Xbox Live. Microsoft keeps proving to me that they want my money most and they will do everything it takes to get that money. Nintendo tells me to go fuck myself as they don't want my business, they want my grandmothers and Sony keeps telling me there system is way to cool for me and that I wouldn't like it because I'm not smart/hardcore/cool/badass/asian enough to like it.

I'll buy whatever system Xbox throws at us next first as I know its gonna be a solid investment. Nintendo should release a fucking Super Nintendo 2 and just go back to 16 bit graphics imo.

Sony: PlayStation 4, obviously. PS3 will be supported for a while after PS4 comes out. PS4 will be basically an upgraded PS3.

Microsoft: Xbox Valhalla, if they keep the code-name which is unlikely but it would make me happy. It'll likely be mostly like an Xbox 360 (upgraded of course) but with some adjustments, such as a Blu-ray drive, motion sensing controller with built in rechargeable battery packs. I expect that the dashboard will be improved as well.

Nintendo: The Wii's success leaves them without financial motivation for a new console but they may produce something to appeace their more hardcore fanbase. Honestly Nintendo is rather unpredictable, the only thing I really anticipate is innovation.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure I've mispelled somethings, it's late though.
this is pretty much my prediction.

however, for Nintendo, I imagine they'll upgrade the system's overall power and memory as well as the control method (if nothing else, just to include the motion+ as a standard feature) to whatever they can do while still keeping the price at a low number to emulate the success of the Wii. as for the name of the system? who knows...

...so their next console will be a Ps3?
A Playbox 360 cubed

I wish, but I doubt there will ever be that kind of cooperation.
The new PlayBoxWii!!! Best Graphics, Best Motion Sensors, Best Games... Only the price of one soul...

This generation barely started. I don't think they'll be doing a fully new console any time soon.

I could see Nintendo doing an upgraded Wii. And the PS3 making a less massive system.

And Resistance 3, with 200 player multiplayer.
Considering MAG is coming out next year for this generation with 256 player multiplayer (seperated into 32 squads of 8, with 16 squads being pitted against each other by 2 generals), that won't be anything special.
Well, thats another pair of pants ruined.

I must have this game.
I knew about the commanders, but I didn't know about 2 generals. I have no clue how the hell it's going to work, the generals I mean, I guarantee you that nobody would listen to them.
then theyd proll have a way of punishing that

The PS3's innerds will probably change about 25 times like the PS2's innerds did... And Nintendo will probably do with the Wii as they are trying to do with the DS and DSi...

More like the best of 360 and PS3 together, along with upgrades. And their original controller will rumble. And the price will be reasonable at launch.
