This Generation of PC.....wat? PC just keeps getting upgraded. It doesn't have generations. But that's me, whatever.
When the new consoles get released, graphically, they were look fantastic. But about six months down a track, a new graphics card will be released for PC, as well as better CPUs, and other shit computers have (I know next to nothing about hardware). You can't really upgrade a console. Well...not 'legally'. But to be honest, I don't see the big deal. All these developers (Well, mainly it seems to be publishers, not developers) say we need new consoles so they can make more/new games. That's wrong. You need new consoles to make SHINIER games. If a game relies on it's graphical presentation...you've got a shit game. Graphics aside, Crysis was a good game. Crysis 2 on the other hand, while looked brilliant (Even on console), was a severely cut down sequel compared to 1. linear and closed areas, mute character, shittier looking aliens, etc. Me and my flatmate were discussing this the other day. What makes it even worse nowadays, is that developers are making games for every platform at once. Fuck, it was less than five years ago we still had AAA games coming out that were only on PC, or only on one console. Now, every game must be everywhere. And by doing so, we end up with console ports which suffer graphically from it, or PC ports which suffer from even worse bugs.
But this is what happens when the gaming industry is really dominated by only three publishers. Activision, EA and Ubisoft. Yes, there is Bethesda, but they don't seem to be doing anything remotely dickish like the others (Activision with it's constant stream of sub-par CoD multiplayer focus (Except Black Ops 2, where some real effort went into the single player), EA with it's stream of yearly sports games and dick waving about how awesome multiplayer is, Ubisoft with it's "OH GAWD! PIRACY IS RAPING US! LOOK AT ALL THIS MONEY WE'RE GETTING THOUGH! FUCKIN' DRM IN EVERYTHAAAANG!"). It's even worse when I look up game develipers to see what they are working on...and find out half of them have been assimilated into another publisher and go from making original and really good games, to having almost all their development staff fired and the rest working on fucking DLC maps for multiplayer focused games.
So...no. The new console gen might match up graphically to PC for a few months...but then will quickly become outdated. We don't need new Consoles though. We need better games. We had better games and original games coming out n the PS2 and X-Box...why are we now stuck in sequel-verse? I'd rather have a fun game with a great story, memorable characters, awesome gameplay....and look like it came out ten years ago. I still love playing Final Fantasy 7, or Halo. But Crysis 2? Assassins Creed 3? They are more fucking bland and half-arsed than anything else. It's almost like game developers saw this one scene from a Frankie Boyle video and thought it would be a great idea.
