Next gen EA games to cost £55

I think the one-size-fits-all $60 pricing structure is obsolete as hell. If they need to charge more money for the games to meet their expectations, they should do so. If the games don't sell, they'll realize they need to adjust those expectations or otherwise alter their business model. At the same time, lesser productions should be eligible for reduced pricing as well. And regardless of how the pricing shakes out, adjusting for inflation, gaming has never been cheaper. I still laugh at people who turn their noses up at pay-to-play MMOs - as if you'd ever spent a more efficient $15 a month than an MMO sub, which tends to yield ludicrous dollar per hour value.

A lot of bad factors conspire to drive pricing up, but that doesn't mean a lot of games aren't relatively underpriced given inflation.

Damn it.

Titanfall was one of the only things coming out of E3 that caught my eye, but damned if EA isn't actively doing anything and everything they can to make my interest in the game wane.

Ugh, fuck me. And to think I was starting to like EA again...

Can't see any justification for this price increase on EA's side... except creating "better" production values or spending more on their marketing departments. What sane person pays indirectly for his own product's public presentation?

Good luck expecting a discount for new EA titles.

Now, let us see who joins the party next. Probably Sega / Ubi / any all-around publisher without a console.

By Cthulhu these price increases had bloody well better not carry over to Australia, because we already pay an extra $30-$40 for no discernible reason. Looks like I'll be sticking with my PC next-gen. Thank-you Steam sales.

Why couldn't a working adult afford it? I mean they shouldn't buy it, but all adults I know have at least 100 quid to spare by the end of the month. The adults you know must be fairly poor or living above their means if they spend their entire wage on rent and such o.x
Or have a family and kids.
If you don't have money left over by the end of the month, you shouldn't have had kids. That means that if anything happens, unexpected injury, disease or a vital appliance/vehicle breaking down, you are screwed.
I see, only well off families get to have kids. Got it.
If you're not well of, why would you buy a console? Seems like a lot of money for poor people with kids. And ideally yes, why would you want a child born into poverty? The world is already overpopulated. Last thing we need are more welfare babies. I die a little inside everytime I see a single mom with 3-6 kids, unable to contain them as they run amok.

I would never pay so much for a standard game. A special, top-tier game like a new Elder Scrolls, a new Unreal Tournament, something like that, Collector's Deluxe Limited Edition, I would go that high. But not for anything else.

Anyway, the point is moot with EA since I can't buy their games on Steam any more. I no longer have the option of buying their games since I using Origin is not an option..

How about pricing games according to how much they're worth? I find it ridiculous that people will pay this much for all PS4 games. Development costs soar with each generation, yes, but not all games are equal in value (obviously), some are actually worth at least £100 a pop whilst others aren't even worth a tenner at launch.
That cannot work. Who decides the value of a work? You? Me? The developer? The publisher? The retailer? The reviewer? Worth is subjective and ultimately irrelevant. You don't sell anything for what it is worth nor for what it costs, you sell it for what a buyer is willing to pay.

Heh, yeah right I'm paying that much.
I'm a cheap *****.
Least expensive games I ever paid for came from Steam sales.
Least expensive game I got full price are 3DS games.

Ride on EA.
Ride on.

Oh, and I can't wait to see the shit fest that will be Mass Effect 4.
I really can't fucking wait.
Please tell me you're joking, please tell me that EA is not ready to pimp out Bioware for another ME game, that...this...there are no words in the tongues of Man, Elfish or Ork/Orc for this sort of stupidity... I am almost afraid now, 3 was such a terrible game that we still have flame wars of epic length and vileness over it... A 4th installment is too terrible to even comprehend at this point...
I wish I was.

I seriously wish I was.
They are indeed making a Mass Effect 4.
They said it will have nothing to do with Commander Shepard, but I have no clue who or what it's going to revolve around. I don't even know what fucking time period it's going to be.

Well, most of them do have at least £100 spare, they would simply choose not to buy it, because it's not worth the money. And to be honest, some of the adults I know actually probably can't afford it. I live in a really shitty area. Most of them would just choose not to buy the games.

Are you between 19-24 and a single working person? Because that is what I am hearing whenever I read your posts.

25, working and in a relationship for quite a while now. And if you were wondering, kids are a possible plan at least 5 years from now when we have established stable careers, but even then a MAX of two.

Hahahahahahahaha. I would say I would just wait until the Steam sales, but since EA don't sell on Steam (or have any Origin sales that are anywhere near as good) then I guess I just wont be buying their games, because there is no way in hell that I will be paying £55 for a video game. Also out of interest do we know if they will be raising prices in the rest of the world like the US or AUS, because if not my sense of "at least we don't have AUS prices" will be severely decreased.

Single means not married. So I was spot on. Its great that you have a plan and all, I really mean that, but you never know what life is going to throw your way. You never know if the birth control is going to fail, if you are going to lose your job, if you are going to develop health problems.
My dad worked for a long time as a airplane mechanic but after 9/11 the air lines got hit hard and he ended up getting laid off when United went through bankruptcy proceedings. All the stock they gave in lieu of a pay raise became worthless, basically he got screwed over.
When you find yourself in tight times you certainly have to tighten your belt but you don't have to give up all your entertainment. You can buy used games. Or a second hand console. It always rubs me the wrong way when people say something that boils down to "poor people don't get to have fun".

Fuck 'em. I'll only be buying their games used. I can wait a couple of months.
Agreed.

Normally I enjoy keeping a collection of new, hard disks for my games but...

for 80 bucks? Holyshitno!

For the few EA games that I'll be interested in when they come, I'll almost certainly be buying used (because heaven knows that EA won't be instating any major price drops to their next-gen games any time soon)

Won't happen for long. They clearly didn't do any market testing for this, and nobody will buy games at that price.

Yes, of course. But we both know there are tons of couples who are having kids in bundles when they don't have the means to do it. My neighbours who are now forced to move out (3 kids, 2 bedroom house) were already living fairly poorly before. Now, I don't believe 3 kids came out accidentally. Birth control doesn't fail that often and if it did the first two times, get post-coital birth control to make sure.

But even then, when I have fallen on hard times before, I just wouldn't be buying luxury items. The times I have been in between jobs that was usually what I did. Buy the necessities, not more.

But because PC games don't have generations they will stay at $50 right.... right?

It's a good thing I've lost interest in most EA franchises because there's no way I'm paying for that. Hopefully one of my mates will buy FIFA and I'll just play it at his house lol. But with Battlefield becoming annualized and MAss Effect on hold for now I don't have a reason to buy any EA games anyway.

It's a good job EA doesn't often release games I'm interested in then...

I've already been caught once sitting around at ground-zero when a company has chosen to raise their prices noticeably above inflation, in effect pricing some of their poorer costumers completely out of the market but increasing overall profitability over the short term. Firstly, they reduce their overall costs by servicing a smaller costumer base then before, while secondly, they make dramatically more money per sale then they did before.

I'll stick with PC + Steam. It's the least worst option available. At they very least they offer you your very own choice of anal lube flavouring rather then a choice between heavy grit and small pebbles with sharp edges..
