It's not *them* that I hate.

It's the complete tidal wave of crap-copycats that followed them.

Yeah, we get it. You can sing in a gravelly voice too. Get over yourself.
I'd make the argument that Nickelback are part of the crap-copycat wave rather than being the guys that started it.

Cause Foo Fighters had the gravelly voice before them!
They're a little bit different from the Nickelback style.

I'm thinking more Theory of a Dead Man and other bull crap.

Your opinion is validated though for your appraisal of Foo Fighters.

Theory of a Dead Man...

Oh wait, they were in the game Fahrenheit!

Why couldn't they have gone with some good music instead of that?

We had a cook come into work who had just moved to Toronto from Paris, France. He told us that one Canadian band that was popular in France was Nickleback. I had to break it to him that they were a national shame. We then went around asking people in the cafe if they liked Nickleback... and proved my point.

The reason everyone hates on them, is because they have become an embodiement of mainstream rock music.

People simply hate on them because they want to prove how "alternative" they are, and ingratiate themselfs in a particular group of people. One of the best ways to gain acceptance with one group is to attack another.

If it was just a matter of them being bad, people who didnt like them would just ignore them, but now, if you want people to think you have musical credibility, you have to reject the mainstream, and hating on bands like Nickleback is one way to do that.

"Hating" music is a symbolic gesture more than anything, if it was simply not liking the music then you would just ignore it

Because their music is boring, bland, unoriginal, lame, lowest common denominator, redneck, hillbilly bullshit that has gotten way more attention than it deserves.

Then again they have sold a billion albums and made a shit load of money so good for them.

But yeah, their music is shit.

'course thats just my opinion, I could be wrong. But Im probably not in this case. ;)

Because they suck.

It's that simple.

They have horrible music, can't write a song for shit and they're just a bunch of douchebags.
THe last part of your post gets me - you know them personally then?
And how is their music horrid? Are the lyrics incoherent?
What about them being douches? Just look at them! Watch one interview and you'll see they're just a bunch of arrogant pricks.

And their music is horrid because of its bland, boring simplicity the music's repetitive nature.

It's all the same 1-2 power chords that pretty much anyone can play. This is all my opinion, but mainstream music like Nickleback that use that simple power chord/shouting vocals mix all suck

Funny that everyone seems to hate them and yet they're ridiculously famous. Hypocrites.
I don't think you know what Hypocrite means.

Being a hypocrite in this situation would be me saying "nickel back are rubbish" and then going and buying all of their albums.

In this case, everyone is saying "nickelback" are rubbish. and nothing else, so I'm going to assume that they don't already have their albums otherwise they wouldn't be saying they're rubbish.

I've been somewhat curious about this too. I've been following them for just about 8 years now though, Silver Side Up was the first proper album I ever bought and they were the first band that I really wanted to listen to, so obviously they hold an individual spot in my heart. I'm not as fond of their newer stuff because they have become more mainstream and kinda cheesy, but it's still fun, and if people like them and Theory of a Deadman left that kind of red-neck rock genre then there'd just be a whole horde of alternative rock and heavy metal left.

I love my music and have a wide taste, if I hear some R&B or something I don't like it just goes in one ear and out the other; so it is somewhat annoying to bear the brunt of a hate-storm against your first favourite band.

Nickle back.... Nickelback...

The retards can't fucking spell nickle.
Ummm.... "nickel" IS the correct spelling of the metal and coin...

Anyway, I listened to Dark Horse one time and I think I died. I've listened to some total shit in my time, and that was definitely part of it.

It's because their success far outweighs their talent
A shit ton of the last thiry-odd years worth of pop/top-40 groups and artists and a few American Idol contestants would like to speak to you. Apparently, the bulk of the western world lumping them in with Nickelback is offensive to over-produced, over-hyped, completely generic, committee-designed pop and top-40 acts.

To anyone else that's responded in favour of Nickelback, don't get me wrong, they have a couple good songs, but they're so mind-numbingly bland for a band that's desperately trying to be some kind of alt-country-rock fusion thing. I mean, yes, 'She didn't get this far' is almost surprising in it's relevance, if Heidi Fleiss, Hollywood Madam was a current story.

Sure, 'Burn it to the ground' is a good "let's get drunk and have a great time" song, but it's also an anthem for the halfwit redneck drunks I see all around me, and every time some drunk wanna-be cowboy get shitfaced and tries to start a scrap after listening to it, I end up with sore knuckles.

They're not as untalented as a lot of current musical acts, but they're almost as formulaic as many of them. I guess they're kind of a modern day version of 'The Monkees', except they actually play their own instruments; it's relatively clean, safe music for the blue-collar masses that like a pseudo-rock-and-roll edge to their music.

Hating Nickelback is the in thing for all the people into "real" rock, or as I call them, greasy metal kids.
it is? well fuck me two ways from Sunday! I've been doing it long before it was kool!!!1 hrhrhr

*ahem* to the OP:

Meh, I just don't like them. I find them quite bland and dull, but as someone wrote earlier, why do you care that people don't like them?

Nickelback annoy me because they're just so damn safe...which is a terrible quality in a rock band. I don't like the songs, don't like his voice, don't like the production.

I hate pretty much every famous band because they all sound the same and all suck. Rise Against was one of my favorite bands, then that shitty acoustic song started getting played on the radio and everyone liked them that song, and then they got famous and went down hill. That doesn't make me a hypocrite at all.

Saying we are hypocrites because we don't like a famous band is like saying 66% of the world are hypocrites because they are not christian.

I don't hate them, I just find them pretty standard. There's nothing which draws me to them.
Seeing the video of the singer getting hit by a rock was bloody priceless though.

Stereotype more please. So if someone listens to jazz and dislikes Nickelback, then they're a "greasy metal kid"? Your logic is flawless.

I've heard a lot of people declaring how terrible Nickelback is, and I never got it. I enjoy their music. They're certainly not the best ever, but I find it good enough to listen to once in a while.

Some people simply call them unoriginal, which I see, but it doesn't make them bad. There are plenty of unoriginal bands that are considered much better than Nickelback.

I suppose their genre is another main complaint, that they have a type of rock that a lot of people simply hate to death. My response to that is: Hate the genre, not the band. Some people may not like what Nickelback does, but I'll say this much about it: They do it well. They've got a good singer, the rest of the band is certainly competent enough to play their songs well, their songs generally have decent lyrics, and I simply can't see where all this hate comes from.

So, could someone explain all this hate to me? Because I simply don't get it.
Please not to be a Search bar Nazi but this thread has been done atleast 5 five times since I've been here. Also I really don't see why people bother with hate threads it just feeds the trolls. Just look at every thread ever done about JRPGs on this forum or any other forum along with Halo, MW2, etc. I fail to see why people do it.

OT: I like them and I think they're good bar the song Rockstar which is awful. I don't if people don't like them as long as I know who I like.

No, they are not "CLEARLY" not that bad, they are just "not that bad" in YOUR opinion. And they are the "worst band ever" in other people's opinions. See how this opinion thing works?
You don't have to get so touchy.

I said they're clearly "Not that Bad" because people are talking about them like listening to their music makes your ears bleed and your flesh melt. I'm pretty sure no music is "that bad". Other than Opera Rap.
