Yeah, maybe Billboard's just going by sales numbers?
They are... that's what makes most people here lose their faith in humanity rather than just Billboard.

I don't care about what bands sold the most albums. According to Metacritic the band of the decade (based on reviews) is Spoon. I don't think they're the best band of the decade, but at least they're good.

I never cared for them, or mostly everything on the radio.
If you cared, maybe others would care. And maybe if others cared, there would be good music on the radio.
People wake up! There are children and angry old guys listening the radio and voting for the ''good'' bands like Jonas Brothers. Wake up! We should say, 'Stop! I'm as mad as hell and i'm not going to listen to this crap again!' Maybe then they would once in a time play some good music that we like. If they play something different, maybe children will give a chance to the good bands (real metal, intelligent rap or whatever you consider good) and than 'boom' they are playing it everywhere.
WAKE UP!

I'm writing this post with incredible agony and pain. Billboard has just named Nickleback as "Band of the Decade".

http://www.nationalpost.com/arts/story.html?id=2330688

Any faith in humanity I may have garnered in these last ten years is gone.

Well, what are your thoughts? Is Billboard onto something? Or are they really just that stupid?

EDIT: A little humor to relieve the pain:

EDIT EDIT: I read a second source and this one's a bit clearer about how they came up with this. It turns the list came from sales figures. This only hurts my faith in humanity even more.

To be fair, they have had a ton of huge hits over the last ten years, for reasons I can't understand.

As a Canadian, I would like to take this moment to apologize to the rest of the world, for subjecting all of you the the 'music' of nickelback for the last ten (or more) years. They started as a practical joke and got way out of hand and now it's too late to stop them. We're sorry, please forgive us
It's OK dude, you guys gave us Devin Townsend so all is forgiven.

My thoughts could only be properly expressed in a rant containing text and images that would probably get me the banhammer. So, instead, I'll simply say that this is ridiculous and leave before the rant comes through.

Those don't even blend, let alone sound the same! Next time, pick a less FAIL video.
The fact that it has almost the exact same timing (chorus line, crescendo, etcetera) and key signature is a bit weird. They're not exactly the same, no.
But, to each, his own, I suppose.

Why? I'm fine with listening to my iPod or CD's. They make those iPod FM transmitters for a reason. During the past month I've listened to the radio for the first time in maybe 5 years, and I always heard the same three songs. I swear every time I get in a car I hear that same fucking song by Lady Gaga that makes me want to take a shotgun to my head.

Oh, and I almost forgot. I've been listening to Rise Against for years, and a year or so before they were played on the radio. When they did start to get played on there, they played their utter shit songs, and now their newer stuff is no where near as good as the older stuff was. Thank you radio for ruining another band.

Ungh, can't say I'm too fond of Nickleback. But it's not like the nomination changes anything. the day "best of the " means you are by law obliged to change your taste I'll get alarmed, but not before then ^^

And to tell the truth, Rockstar was kinda catchy ^^

Nickelback, Green Day. Mob says they're good, thus they've become "cool to hate".
Me? I like both bands because they do catchy music.
They are good for you, if you like them. It's personal opinion, really. But could you say that they are the band of the decade? If you do, than i'm really sorry.
There are band that sound exactly as them, there are bands who put more effort in their songs, there are bands that really mean something by their lyrics, there are so many good bands that could be a lot more popular if they had so many money as these guys.
As i said, i like SOME of their songs, but that's about it. They are nothing spectacular and just few steps better than Jonas Brothers.
Anything based on sales figures is wrong because the markets vary drastically in size. I personally believe that no "pop rock" band is likely to get a shout for band of the decade.

If you want a band of the decade, you have to consider the quality of their music, the influence they've had on the charts, and a lot more besides.

Wow.
I went to the second link in the post and some guy said that Nickelback was the top selling rock group of the decade.
I looked up how much they sold: 30 million albums.
Linkin album sales: 60 Million
60>30
doesnt make any sense

But it doesnt matter cuz SOAD or RHCP should have won.

Out of all the shitty things in the music business, I've got to say I'm not too disturbed by Nickleback taking first-place. At least it's not the Ting-Tings.

I'm having a very hard time trying to think of a good band for this decade. Honestly, modern music just all sucks, and the few good bands are buried under piles of garbage.

This kids, is why we don't listen to anything the Billboard says. Ever.

We also don't listen to Kerrang, Rolling Stone or NME.

There's been plenty of good bands in the last decade, just a lot of them are harder to find these days due to record companies being on life support. Also, the 00s did have to follow the 90s, which had quality bands coming out of its ears.

I will say though that the big scenes of the last decade have been woeful. I don't mean emo, because, let's be honest, no one was expecting anything to come that, at all. It was the rock music that forgot guitars were invented that really pissed me off. Bands like The Killers, Snow Patrol (I know they have been going since the 90s, but who honestly knew of them before a few years ago?) and The Plain White Ts, they were all built up to be the Oasis, Blurs and No Doubts of the 00s, but their substituting of guitars with keyboards meant they had very little groove in their songs, making their music, in my opinion, feel like a slow car journey and not something you can drink too.

In conclusion, there's still a lot of good bands, just less of them are breaking through, but if you want good music you will be able to go out and find it.

By the way, I'm not some indie twat who only listens to bands with less than 50 fans, incase I came off that way, majority of my playlist has had atleast one number 1. :p
