I've beaten every game I have. The only games I've never finished are games that I've traded in because I didn't like them:

Fallout 3
Mass Effect 2

My biggest problem is that the grass is always greener on the other side. by the time i have gotten about half way through which ever game i'm playing there will inevitably be a new game out that looks just as fun if not better. or i will get a craving for an older game i haven't picked up in a while and start playing that from the start (because i don't like coming in half way through games).

There are very few games I don't finish. Unless you count 100% completion, which the article doesn't seem to (Specifically mentions the last mission).

Back in the NES/SNES days, it was probably true for me, but now, it's so easy to finish most games and I'm not as game obsessed so I don't buy as many.

I tend to complete basically every game I start. The only games I don't finish are the ones that are really horrible and long. I like to play for fun and even some competition but I don't play to be tortured.

I have nearly 400 games in my collection that spans platforms from NES to 3DS, and my favorite genre is are RPGs, so a lot of my games have gone unfinished. It hurts that some of my favorites are huge timesinks as well, just look at three of my favorite games of last year, Fallout: New Vegas, Pokemon: SoulSiver Version, and Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. It's hard for me to finish my other games when I'm spending so much time on ones that seem to never run out of things to do.

I'm immune to stupid stories so I finish the game just to say I did and see how your cardboard box production of space dude shots aliens ends.

9 out of 10 will not finish, because they are all playing Minecraft.

OT: True. Out of the 75+ Steam games I have, I have finished 4. :(

I've beaten everything I own. (Except Demon's Souls because that game is a product of Satan)

I only don't finish rental games if I just get bored of them.
Demon's Souls is cake. I'd help ya if I had internet capable of allowing me to even sign into PSN.

I usually finish most games I play. If I don't finish, it's because I got sick of trying to beat the last part of the game. I'm looking at you, Killzone 2. Or I just get too bored to continue on. Orrrr I get a new game. I have a bad habit of getting a new game, and completely forgetting about my older ones. Dante's Inferno, Prince of Persia(2008), Red Faction: Guerrilla, Bulletstorm, Bioshock 2, Little BiG Planet, Two Worlds II, L.A. Noire, Bayonetta. All of these games are victim to that bad habit.

I've beaten more games than I've finished. There are few games that I've played to the point that there is literally nothing left to do. I will not, for example, spend a dozen hours hunting down trinkets in some open world game because, at least generally, the act of collecting such things is not terribly fulfilling. Indeed, I can only think of one game I've truly "finished" and that was the original Ghost Recon. And that was because it was the only game I had available for months while deployed.

All told, I'd say that I've beaten probably 1/3 to 1/2 of the games I've bought in my life. Given that I currently own something on the order of 150 optical media based console games (PS2, 360, Xbox, PS3) and nearly 400 PC games along with about 40 handheld (PSP/GBA/DS/GB) games and about the same number of cartridge based games, I feel this is a fairly good number. Given how many of those games simply turned out to not be my cup of tea and all.

I beat, well probably half to 3/4 of the games I play. Some older ones I haven't due to extreme difficulty or not having the correct hook ups(though having the systems and games still).

I also keep a list of every game I can remember beating without using cheats. Okay a few I did, but largely those were STILL insanely hard and in the case of xenogears miang fight, broken cpu cheating bullshit so I still count it.

Current count is at....(checks) 294.
thats awsome!

OT: its kind of hard to "finish" dwarf fortress.
Completely impossible I believe, along withe minecraft, and probably terraria. Still fun though. Never played DF though as atari and ascii graphics is about where I have to draw the line on not caring about graphics.

If I have to guess and imagine too much, I may as well play d&d.

Hmmm I wonder how a DF themed d&d game would work.....
tried lazy newb pack? (I can't take ASCII for long either).
it makes a world of difference, and I just tried pressing [shift]+[>] instead of [ENTER].
....... I maybe has a problemo.

No, more like a professional dominatrix in game form. You give her your money, she hurts you but damnit you like it and want more.

I've got a lot of games I haven't finished yet but that's either because they were underwhelming or because they're long games that I only play for an hour or so at a time when I'm in the mood.

One of the only games I have never completed is Evil Genius, and that is because that game is a cheap ass. Oh and Demons Soals, because Blue Dragon, and Maneaters.

That report is based on Red Dead Redemption. I specifically avoided this game because of how mediocre GTA4 was. If RDR was of the same caliber as GTA4, then of course people aren't finishing it. It probably gets boring about half way through. Rockstar really isn't a good yardstick for this type of thing.

Use Mass Effect, and we'll see some seriously different results.

And I'm sure that most people on these forums make up the 10% anyway.
