My current reaction to Nintendo at E3? That it looks like I'll be spending another half a decade not owning a Nintendo console.
So you would have prefered a console with better specs and a normal controller?

Different... not sure if that's a good thing though. Its got a year to grow on me =D
Always happy to see backward compatibility, something sony and microsoft have never FULLY offered.

Nintendo screwd up this year.
Basically they announced 1 console (And multi plat games you can already play in current gen consoles), that is basically a current gen upgrade with an unconfortable controller.

And more zelda, more mario, the usual.

5/10

Here are my thoughts on the conferences this year (For reference, 2010 Sony = 10/10 and 2006 Sony = 1/10)

Microsoft: 3/10

Nintendo: 5/10

Sony: 7/10
This seems accurate.

A whole new console with backwards compatibility of Wii. Since the Wii is an overclocked GameCube, I assume that WiiU will be playing GameCube stuff as well.

So essentially, a new HD Nintendo Console with a tablet on steroids as a controller and about the same amount of 3rd party support as the PS3 and X360 is getting. I wonder if the tech in this console is only slightly better than the PS3/X360, or is it going to be able to match the PS4. It almost feels like Nintendo is finally getting into the current generation, just 3 years late.

Anyway. Perhaps we'll see some really cool stuff done with the funky controller. Also, what are the prices going to be? A Wiimote + Motion Plus is about $80. So is this tablet going to run ~$150? Jack De Vries joked on a podcast that the new console is going to have $200 for each controller; he might not be far off on that one.

I officially dub this console the Nintendo Voldemort.

The Console That Must Not Be Named.

I would... But there is no talk about specs or anything.

They were very clear about targeting "commited" read hardcore gamers with this. so I wonder what the pricepoint will be.

Seemed like a lot of stuff was for 1 wiiumote and a bunch of wiimotes.

How many WIIUmotes can it stream too at the same time?

Yeah, pretty much and one without motion controls as the main feature of it; though I know at this point that's a fools dream. I occasionally look at the gamecube collecting dust in my closet and remember the days when I was a die-hard Nintendo fanboy. Those were good days, but then Nintendo dropped the ball and I moved on to greener pastures.

Suppose I should be thankful. The Wii pushed me away from my Nintendo exclusivity into the PS2, 360, and PC. My library has expanded greatly since then, but current gen Nintendo games are sadly lacking from it other than the occasional DS title.

The problem is, Why would you want to buy another current gen console to play the same games you already play on x360, ps3, even if its slightly upgraded, and most importantly, do you want to play those games on the most unconfortable looking controller ever instead of DS3/X360 controller ?

True, and fair enough. Im damn excited for controller, but I want beefy specs to back it up.

We have to remember, right now they are porting other games to this and they looked the same as the other consoles. That doesnt mean this isnt much better and nobody is showing it yet.

So far I've seen mixed responses, most people are unsure whether they're on board with the new controller. At the end of the day, thats what Nintendo's niche appeal is - I can remember everyone saying they didn't like the look of the Wii controller, and, sure, amongst hardcore gamers the Wii is a no-fly zone, but you can't deny it worked well. (For the most part, anyway...)

Being on a game site we are inherently more "hardcore", but I tell you what. My kids play the wii more then my ps3 gets used and they play with the mii creaters more then actual games! These are teenage girls. Nintendo has its based locked at is seriously and ernestly reaching out to hardcore gamers here.

I for one cant stop thinking about the awesomeness this controller has the potential to be.

So.. uhh.. what about the virtual console stuff I already bought on my wii?

If I can't keep the stuff (move it over) then this is gonna be a no sale for me as I don't like keeping too many consoles around as is... I mean, as a PC Gamer I have a reputation to uphold and whatnot.

Do you realise that the games shown are ports from current protects for other consoles and therfore not reflected of this consoles potential? wait for the specs to *****.

I think that right now it's impossible for me to form a good opinion on any of this stuff. I hope the reports from E3 start rolling in once people get the chance to use it on the floor.

Your pc gamer rep just died by admiting you have/play wii.

Right... so this Wii U... thing...
There are 2 things that I want to know about this controller/console:
1. What are the technical specifications of it?
2. How well will it support online gamming?

In my opinion, these are the two main flaws with the Wii that completely ruined the console. The tech becuase that meant that is missed out on all the third party games, and online becuase... well becuase you could not play online very well.

I'm seeing so many parallels to when the Wii first came out that I don't dare to get excited about this new console.... controller..... Ok, someone please tell me, IS IT A CONTROLLER OR A CONSOLE??!!

Here's hoping that the backwards compatibility will cover those titles too; I've got 20+ titles I wouldn't want to buy again, either.
