the information starts at the 17:00 if that's what your only interested in.

So Nintendo finally finished polishing up their unified account system.

It's all unified on a system called a Nintendo Network ID.

With this ID, it will combine the currencies of both your Wii U and 3DS eshop data under one umbrella.

They also finally added the Miiverse feature for the 3DS. Which apparently will be used for not only the 3DS but the Wii U as well. All of this is also connected to the Nintendo Network ID.

As time goes on, they will integrate more and more of their services under this program.

Of course Reggie says not to worry though. If you want you can still use the money balance you have on your old account. So you don't have to repurchase for the Nintendo ID.

Big warning though. In order to buy games under your Nintendo Network ID in a combined balance you must use the same username on both the Wii U and 3DS systems otherwise it will register as a completely different network ID. Which completely defeats the purpose. So watch out for that.

Granted this says nothing about playing 3DS games on your Wii U and vice versa, but now that the infrastructure is out it should only be a matter of time before they implement that feature.

That's good to hear. I've not made more than a few eshop purchases, but now they can at least be on one account.

Does this mean my eStore games are linked to my account yet?
I'm not quite sure.

But your e store balance will be registered on the Nintendo ID Network. So if you register the same user on your Wii U, you can use your 3DS balance on the Wii U eshop and vice versa.

I'm also assuming that info on your games are stored in there as well? However they said more services will be added in the future so it's possible that this hasn't happened yet. It's only a matter of time though.

The Wii has long since lost any sort of support from Nintendo. So no. It only supports the 3DS and the Wii U.

Welp Nintendo, finally listened and now I'm happy. Looks like future purchases from me now.
Now just get rid of the region locking of physical media on your consoles and you'll more than likely take over Sony's position when it comes to my most used console of the new generation.

I was wondering when they were going to get to this.

I suppose they had it done for a while now, but they were just checking and double checking to make sure it works like it's supposed to.

Elimination of region locking would be nice though. Or perhaps Nintendo of America can stop being asses and actually do their job when it comes to importing so people don't have to resort to this.

Unfortunately I don't see that ever happening, mainly because even with consoles that don't necessarily region lock, there are still games that are never localized.
It's better if they were to just remove the region locking, since Nintendo Optical Drives can't even recognize discs that aren't Nintendo Optical Discs, due to it being a proprietary drive and all.

Even then when it comes to region locking I just say don't region lock physical media. Digital only software I can understand as to why that can and sometimes should be region locked, but for physical media it's really really stupid.

And Nintendo of America is selective for a reason, mostly because they take orders from the Japanese arm. Furthermore, since people have proven to have a spotty track record where putting their money where their mouth is their lack of faith in consumers is VERY understandable.

So, I don't have a Wii U but I do have a 3DS. On that 3DS I have my Club Nintendo account linked and also on that 3DS is $40 waiting for the release of Zelda.

Does my Club Nintendo account become a Nintendo Network account?

Can I even make a NNID without a Wii U?

If I do make a NNID, will it affect my $40 on my 3DS?

So then restrict anyone who is in another region from playing the game then? What about those who move to other countries for work or military reasons, do they now have to buy an entirely new system because Nintendo decided to region lock games? Really with Nintendo's policies about localization, and purposely limiting print so that the prices can always be high isn't something that is very good. I mean look at the situation with Xenoblade Chronicles right now, or the Metroid Prime Trilogy.

I mean if they're going to be selective about what to localize and what not to localize then having a region locking system is even more dickish because it's basically them saying "wanna play this (these) awesome game(s), well all you have to do is buy another 3DS/2DS/Wii/Wii U that will allow you to play those games or hope that we'll ever localize it in your region possibly years later."

You will be fine, since that money is tied to your system, not any account. So when you link an NNID your money will be there, that is the whole point.
..and what will happen to my Club Nintendo account once I create and link a NN account to my 3DS?

Nothing will happen to it.

In fact, I don't think it was mentioned at all in the video. Club Nintendo's main purpose was to simply register your Nintendo products for coins. The Nintendo Network ID serves as a system (at the moment) to finally combine your monetary balances from your Wii U data and your 3DS data.

I wonder if it applies to the wii as well. Honestly I would love to have a unified account because the less bloody passwords I have to remember the better. Cause honestly all of my memory retention is now being used on passwords which I literally have 100 of them. Most jobs I have had now since graduating college required at the very LEAST 5 passwords.

Honestly having to rebuy games over and over again to a point becomes bad for the consumer.
Yes, that point is once. Any time I am expected to pay for something twice is when I break out the emulator. I bought Final Fantasy VI ages ago on the SNES - I will not pay for it again.

I don't have a Wii U (yet) and all the info I've seen says that I need a Wii U for a Nintendo Network ID.

Does anyone know if this is changing?

Baby steps Nintendo, but I'm still not making a single E-shop purchase until I'm sure I'm not SOL if my console dies.
