The love for Iwata is real and deserved. Here's hoping his legacy continues onward for an extremely long amount of time.

All these posts are actually making me cry, especially the puppet one if it's true, which I can totally see being true.

OT: What I loved about Iwata was his background in game development, and his business skills. Even if his leadership had its ups and downs, he really was an ideal CEO of a game company. He understood both sides very well, and I hope Nintendo does not forget the balance Iwata had striven for.

I also never thought that playing Splatoon would get me teary eyed. But, seeing all the Miiverse posts honoring him was so touching. As one of the posts said, "I hope he goes directly to heaven." I hope so too.

Goodbye Mr. Iwata, and thank you for everything.

This takes me completely off guard. I don't really follow individual people within the gaming industry, so I didn't know about his poor health. I also usually don't get upset about people outside my family and friends, but this actually makes me sad.

That is a more terrible loss than I'd like to consider.
And yet, I feel it appropriately horrible for this season of gaming decline.

You shall be missed sir Iwata.

Balloon fight was one of the first games I played on the NES, and my little sister and I had tons of fun with that. Then of course Earthbound and Kirby came along which cemented my sister's love for video games. Dang, that is too young. That actually makes me sad, it's like I lost a piece of my childhood. Sigh.

This is so sad. But he worked on a lot of games people loved and will continue to love. That's his legacy and I hope he would be proud of it.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends. 55 is far too young.

Hey guys, you want to be pissed off.

as a romulan senator once said: "It's a faaaake"

seriously, whoever decided to exploit Iwata's death, just to make a stupid shot at polygon is just a horrible person.

This is a tremendous loss for the gaming industry and community as a whole. We can only hope that his successor is as good as he was.

I'm so sad now :(

LMFAO! That didn?t piss me off as much as it made me laugh like never before. And they WONDER why some of us support gamergate! An iconic leader of the video game industry dies and Polygon is so freaking retarded that they put a picture of the wrong person! These are the retards Gamergate is fighting against! Moronic ?journalists? pretending to represent gamers, meanwhile knowing less about video games than my parents.
It turns out that this tweet is fake. So Polygon is innocent in this case.

Also there are some fake Anita Sarkeesian images circling around too, so beware of those as well.

I knew about his health problems before hand, but that was some time ago, and I thought that things were more stable now... This caught me off guard. I guess you're never truly prepared for something like this...

Rest in Peace. You will be missed, Mr Iwata :(

Dammit man, don't do this to me.

I wrote the man a damn eulogy earlier, so I'll just paste it here and go to bed trying not to be to sad...Gotta honor what the man did with his time; making people happy.

'So I just got the sad news that Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo for the past 13 years (and Nintendo employee for much longer) just passed away due to health issues. It's all I've been thinking about through the evening, so I thought I'd say a few things in his memory.
Iwata wasn't just a CEO who sat in a stuffy office all day. He was an experienced programmer who helped design, port and enhance several Nintendo games over the years including Pokemon and Earthbound. He was a great leader, marketer, presenter; it's sometimes hard to keep track of just how many responsibilities a game maker juggles. But he was always passionate about what he did, and was always having fun marketing games with his skits and comedy. He was almost hilariously stoic most of the time, but I could always tell he was quietly having a blast entertaining people from start to finish. A true entertainer and innovator, who was an inspiration and a great memory to all gamers and designers alike. He often said he considered himself a gamer first and foremost, and he always cared about what gamers wanted. Nintendo makes its mistakes, but Iwata and co. were always keeping their ear to the ground and listening to criticism, trying to find the next big thing to make people happy and expand the industry. I respect the way Iwata always considered criticism as a chance to grow.
You'll be sorely missed, but fondly remembered. Rest in Piece, Iwata-san. I'll always be sure to market my own work with the same kind of passion and humor you had! And I'll try not to be to sad tonight while I play some of your company's wonderful games. You left a great legacy, so I'll have twice the fun tonight, in your honor.'

I ended up not playing, and just chatting with friends since I'm busy...but I'll get back to Twilight Princess tomorrow. Imma dedicate my next video to him to.

One of the few videogame CEO's who was actually a gamer and games maker at heart. His presence shall be missed and I hope he will set a precedence.

I admired this man for so many reasons, not just because of the games that have had the biggest impact on me, but because he never lost persective in what he set out to do, make fun games. The fact he was 55 is saddening, but he could have died at any time and it would have been too soon. Thanks for the most amazing legacy, and rest easy

As sad as this is though, this was a man that was all about fun and making people enjoy them selfs, so heres something that might at least make people happy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glUEKwjqMKw .

And now he's off to the Great Studio in The Sky,

R.I.P. Satoru, you've led a successful and important life. The game industry will not soon forget about you, nor the connection you've had with it in your tenure at Nintendo.
