Saying that though, what would you have preferred from Metroid?gigastrike said:It's not that it's different. It's that taking the camera back to a 3rd person view kills all of the immersion that I felt made Metroid Prime 3 amazing. I'm open to the idea that the action could make up for it, but it's gonna take a while for me to get used to it.ChromeAlchemist said:If I'm honest, I was wondering where the series could possibly go next. It wasn't going to be first person, so to me a 2D revival made sense. But I think this could be a very god addition to the series.gigastrike said:Your link isn't working for me.
I just watched the trailer on youtube and I've got mixed feelings. It looks a lot more actiony than what we're used to, but they seem to be dropping the immersion that the Metroid Prime series had by making it 3rd person. I won't be surprised if it turns out bad.
Imagine what people said when they found out Metroid Prime was going to be an FPA? Blasphemy! Blasphemy and scandal!
Well, not really. She narrated in some of the older games. Not with voice acting, but with text. I don't really mind if she gets voice acting.Internet Kraken said:Samus has almost always been mute.
This is almost like having Gordon Freeman talk.
You have a point. I remember her talking in some of the elevator sequences in fusion.Kage Me said:Well, not really. She narrated in some of the older games. Not with voice acting, but with text. I don't really mind if she gets voice acting.Internet Kraken said:Samus has almost always been mute.

I don't like the voice actor either. I think they should have had the same voice actor she had for Brawl. It was just a line or two, but it sounded cool, and how I imagined Samus talking. With this it just sounds so... lame.Internet Kraken said:You have a point. I remember her talking in some of the elevator sequences in fusion.Kage Me said:Well, not really. Maybe the voice actor just bothers me.
Really? That's enough to make it suck? What about Metal Gear Solid, and Resident Evil 4, and X-men Legends? The Great JT said:At first, I thought this could be interesting. I mean if Team Ninja can make a, shocker here, ninja in tight black leather flip out in ways that tell Newton to go fuck himself by pulling his wang through his asshole, the possibilities for a super-agile hot chick in a super-suit that increases said agility to frankly inhuman levels and goes jumping around in space shooting alien pirates are pretty good, I think. Then I heard this...
This fact will make it suck. Part of the best part about Samus is that she does what she does with a quiet integrety, plus to the best of my recollection Team Ninja isn't known for its stunning dialogue, it's known for making enemies who tie your arms and legs to four separate horses and take off riding (meaning they're unfairly hard to beat).ChromeAlchemist said:P.S. She speaks in this game.
Plus, it's going to be on the Wii. I think we're over the gimmicks of the Wii, so why keep making serious-style games on it like No More Heroes, Madworld and Red Steel?
You could smell the fanboy a page away, to be honest. It wasn't worth bringing it up.funguy2121 said:Really? That's enough to make it suck? Not sure what that even means. But people keep harping on one (usually very small) element of a franchise, such as metroid, that has spanned 6 systems. If Samus, or Link, suddenly spoke, it may ruin the experience only slightly more than Mario talking in his sleep in '64, which is to say not enough to even mention.ChromeAlchemist said:You could smell the fanboy a page away, to be honest. Agreed. That's all I need to say really.funguy2121 said:Not sure what that even means. Key elements of the Metroid franchise: long periods of isolation, immersion, atmosphere, occasional, epic boss battles, powerups, backtracking, strategy, and a cool story, whether it's told through cut scenes, text or scanning. Every thing else is frosting on the cake. If there are two relatively small areas of the game involving friendly troops, two areas which combined make up probably 3% of the entire game, I don't think people should be bitching that the experience is no longer about isolation blah blah blah... now that's some fanboy shit. If allovuahsuddin, Samus speaks a dozen times in the game during cut scenes, I also don't think it's going to ruin the experience of dialogue-less battles and exploration.
I'm also all for the upping of the challenge factor, with very few exceptions. If you want the gaming industry to keep dumbing down all its franchises (Prince of Persia, anyone?) then keep right on bitching about a game being hard. If the control is responsive and the game is easy to pick up and play, then I have to problem whatsoever with an epic boss battle.
