But since when did people start caring more about the aesthetics of the console than the games that are on it? More hardcore style games would be nice.

Now, I'm going to shoot my own argument in the foot by going out and buying said black remote

The Wii was a giant cash in; how long did it take them to 'fix' the response time? Oh right, several years and you have to pay for the motion plus...
But as people are still buying this tiny dust collector, people will still buy the black one.

Spoiler: Don't know about it being a dust collector. I do know that this was

biggest waste of $349.99 ever. And if you're wondering, I use the Wii everyday.

So just making sure: every time a console or controller comes out in an alternative color it is cashing in right? Sony was cashing in when they released the white PSP. Microsoft was cashing in when they made the special Halo controllers. I just want to make sure we are being fair here.

Honest opinion: couldn't really care less. But seeing as how I am poor and not doing much gaming until after finals, any company can pretty much do anything and I won't be bothered to care because I will not have the time or the money for it to impact me.

I dropped my white one a few too many times. It still works, but it makes a weird noise when it's on now. Perhaps this provides me an excuse to get a new one.

Very much this. The xbox has at least half a dozen different controllers and they're not accused of cashing in. Who cares?

Well, when every store from here to Mars is sold out of the damn thing, it's a little expected. I don't think Nintendo saw the Wii as becoming THIS popular, so the actual manufacture of alternate colors was put on hold to fill the ridiculous demand.
