Can you really patent something like that?
Anyway, I now have another reason not to play that game.

This topic just proves to me more and more that Nintendo didn't betray the "Hardcore", the "hardcore" betrayed Nintendo. I mean just look at all the hate quotes about nintendo over this patent.

Maby this will be the thing to finaly kill off nintendo. I hope They all burn for this. After the new zelda is finished, that is

There's an easy mode in many games for a reason too, you know. If you're too much of a braindead moron to play the game, then easy mode will cater to you. But no, Nintendo had to go further.

Nintendo, you are dead to me.

Oh, and when has Mario ever been hard enough to warrant something like this?

I think this is Nintendo finally giving up on hardcore gamers and just sayin now even you half retaded 3 year old can play.

This is fucking retarded. I can't think of anything else to say... part of my gamer-me just died.

Meh, Nintendo's been fairly weird for awhile now. If anyone was expecting hardcore gaming on the wii to last they are sorely mistaken.
This is just the nail in the coffin.
Let's face it, It's for causal games and wii fit users.

Okay thats it Nintendo I know our divorce was never finalized, but now i'm signing those fucking papers

*Sigh*. Nintendo, I weep for thee. You were king yet you made many, many, MANY mistakes. But this... just... *sigh*... I'm speechless.
BudZer said:
Hopefully the game fails so hard that Nintendo drops so drastically in revenue that the realize their mistake. Too bad that will never happen.
NoMoreSanity said:
The fuck? Is Nintendo so desperate for casual game cash that they have to make the games play themselves? Or is it that they're just fucking idiots?
Gimme one good reason why we shouldn't react to a game taking away even the slightest need for skill and finesse as a horrible thing.
It doesn't affect you?

So thats why Nintendo will not put achievements/trophies on the Wii. More to the point this is good because then my little sister can stop bugging me about beating a hard level for her.

This may be a nice option for the inexperienced players who constitute Nintendo's target audience, but if it is as massive a commercial success as everything else they have been doing lately, every other developer will make a knockoff version of it and tout it as the future of gaming. By 2015, all video games will be non-interactive.

Except Nintendo, since they'll have already made theirs without sacrificing interactivity.

...my god. That must be Nintendo's diabolical plan to eliminate the competition! It all makes sense!

Yes, pushing the boundaries of gaming is probably a good thing.

No, pushing it off the edge probably isn't.

Seriously, Nintendo. I don't think I know anyone who has been expecting anything from you in the past year, I have heard alot of stuff about the 360 and some stuff about the PS3.

Who cares...? It's a option for little kids, they're not forcing anyone to use it.
Well it was 33 posts in but someone FINALLY said it.
Ahh but what is this teaching said kids? That if something is too hard get someone else to do it for you? Cuz it sure in hell ain't teaching kids what they should be learning. Stuff like taking pride in what you are doing. Or that the harder it is the more rewarding it is. Oh thats right I forgot kids are to delicate and must be kept in a bubble til they turn 18 and then throw them to the wolves. PATHETIC!!!!! God I hope I don't live long enough that I have to rely on the next generation to care for my sorry old man ass.
Sigh, gaming's primary output is entertainment and fun. Ask yourselfs when you were young when you had troubles with a certain level and gave up. Nintendo have seen this and are working on a solution, its what we call innovation.

If you don't like it fair enough, Reggie isnt there with a knife forcing you too use the option or even buy the bloody game. I love how this one simple idea that helps out the lesser skilled gamers causes such a hoo haa with the "hardcore" crowd.

Never thought i would have to use it, but people ITS A VIDEO GAME!!!
Soccer, baseball and hide & seek are just games to. Is it ok for a kid to call in an experienced player because they are losing? They too are just games afterall. Oh look JR. is up to bat. He has struck out everytime at bat this season. Oh whats this? Joe DiMaggio is coming out to the plate. There is the pitch and it is a homerun. JR. has just won the game. The crowd goes wild. Now how is that any different than this besides the fact one game you use a controller and a TV to play?

As a gamer I think it would be awesome. I can't tell you the amount of times I have wasted 60 bucks because I got stuck at 1 little part and the game went on the shelf to collect dust. It wouldn't feel as good as it does when I do the "impossible" and would leave me feeling the same way when I have used a cheat code. Prolly worse even since I am still at least playing.

As a parent I am disgusted and my child will never have anything like this. The whole "it is just a game" doesn't fly with me and is counterproductive to say the least. If you want respect as an industry you can't throw that back when the going gets tough. Games hold alot of value for a developing mind. Improve hand eye co ordination, problem solving and reading skills. For Nintendo the only console who seems to be focused on the younger crowd to turn around and pull this is just stupid and pointless. Why not encourage family time instead. Kid having problems? Ask you mom or dad to help you. At least then there is a chance for the kid to learn where they were going wrong because there is someone there to teach them. Not to do it for them.

Then our only options will be Nintendo and Tabletop gaming. We are about to come full circle.

So we're in agreement - the first person to defend this gets their genitals crushed between my Ps3 and a brick.
Same difference.

Here, let me defend it: players of equal skill are not of *identical* skill. Someone who can handle one enemy all day might have trouble with another enemy; for a different player, vice versa.

The problem comes up when there's a part of a game that doesn't trip up the play testers or the designers, but still messes up a significant portion of the public. David Jaffe talked about this in making God of War, how they had a much larger play test phase in order to iron out as many of those problem areas as possible: parts of the game that weren't objectively any harder, but just happened to throw part of the audience. He said he was amazed to see parts of the game that he and the design team though were no harder than the rest of the game give some of the play testers--play testers that they thought were more skilled than them--a nightmare.

So you could see this the same way: as others above me have said, it means the game can be more difficult overall, because you don't have to reduce the game down to a kind of "lowest common denominator" of difficulty. And while LCD sounds like "dumb the game down" it isn't: it allows you to make the game INSANE while not excluding players skilled enough to get through, like, 98% of the game at INSANE level.
So those players who lack the skill to get through it should either

A) practice. Those players who can beat it on insane while 98% can't weren't born with that ability. They learned it.

or

B) spend 10 bucks and go see a movie instead. At that point you will be having the same level of interaction so you might as well put the 60 bucks to something useful. Like a bubble cuz God Forbid you challenge yourself.
