I just recently watched microsofts e3 press conference and found 85% to be random crap about kinect. The new interface and games better not be kinect exclusive because not only will it be really annoying but I might quit playing xbox all together. I mean honestly did anyone ever navigate a menu and say, "gee whiz this whole moving an anolog stick is getting ridiculous."

I mean it does look futurey and cool. But in all the videos the people took this robotic monotone voice to speak to their xbox. I honestly think I might return to...

...*gulps* nintendo...

I doubt they'll ever make Kinect a required part of their system. The only thing I think could happen is that Kinect quits being a peripheral and they decide to just implement into the next Xbox.

On the other hand, I like the idea of being able to scream at my squad in Mass Effect.

Its a black and white situation
you love it and already have it, or you hate it and will never bu it.
so with that in mind advertising at e3 is pointless.

I'm not going to buy a kinect because it's so fucking expensive. I also don't want to be broadcasting my shouting across the entire house whenever I play a game, and I'm sure my family is grateful for that.

While they definitely won't make the interface Kinect-only (that would lock out every other user of the 360, which I'm pretty sure is illegal, and is a terrible PR move either way), the games do seem to be going in that direction. I personally find Kinect to be a terrible idea, with its shoddy voice recognition and worse-than-Wii-shovelware mindset, but I suppose actions speak louder than words... so let's all not buy these Kinect-requiring games if we want Microsoft and developers to double-take.

Its a rabble, rabble, rabble thread! Hooray!

Have you tried it yet? I thought the Wii was stupid until I played it. Still won't get one but I now know its actually rad.

If you have tried Kinect, say so in your post, so I don't have to type this.

I probably will never get Kinect and the ME3 voice interface does sound stupid.

However it is the start of virtual reality. That is cool and kinda scary. (Kinda is a word now? Jeez, no red squiggly? Damn there wasn't one for jeez either.)

I have a kinect, but I don't have a 360.
I use it to do silly stuff on the PC, like trying to give my mecha sight.

They market and implement Kinect wrong in my opinion, it shouldn't try to replace the controller but instead augment the experience. Hopefully the 720(or whatever)comes with both so developers could use both at the same time

Look 360 and triple A titles are already sold to the people, now they need to sell granny and little jimmy on the Wii ripoffs.

This really only affects you if you feel the unyielding need to flail your extremities like a monkey.

Read this in a sort of micro-'letters to the editor' section in Edge Magazine, thought it was pretty funny:

"Xbox, play
Xbox, pause
Xbox, rewind
Xbox, I'm lonely."

Also, see this [http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2010/11/5/].

I don't really want a Kinect, there's just nothing that appeals to me with it. And there'd have to be a few good games that used it before I'd even consider buying one.

I don't see the need for the Kinect in some of these instances. Like for vocal commands: why not just plug in your mic and use that? It seems like the kind of thing that can be implemented with a software update of two.

The Kinect hasn't wowed me. I have about enough room to use one but there isn't anything currently on the market to make me really want one and it seems like the games that are going to support it that I will be getting will only make minor use of it like Mass Effect 3 using the Kinect to control biotic powers or, chose dialog options.

Added bonus: if you have a thick accent they'll misunderstand and decide that you calling them worthless spunkbuckets means you want them to cast biotic abilities at a nearby wall.

Which would actually be useful because it normally takes forever to get them to cast anything in the first place.

When video games are fully interactive - IE I have to be jumping around my living room pretending I am a ball player or a seal team 6 member - I will realize at that point I am done as a gamer.

I go outside and play baseball. I had my time in the army. I like working 12 hours in a day and sitting on the couch using some sort of interactive media. I like my controller. I am not bitching or complaining. I just enjoy my down time. I don't need to play pretend when I can just go out and do those things and get some exercise doing it. I guess I am just a bit afraid from where I see my hobby going. It certainly has come a long ways from when I started in it though.

It's not 85%,you exaggerate.
But it's still very high.
At Microsoft's press conference they showed 14 games from which 8 where kinect crap and 6 non-kinect.

I hate to say it, but "the future of gaming" might not be in gripping, powerful narratives or new and interesting immersive experiences, but they might instead become about jumping around your living room or casual gaming with a touchscreen and gyroscope.
This will never happen. So long as there are people like us, the core gamers, there will always be a place for controllers or keyboard/mouse. Casual motion control games might stick around for a few more years thanks to Nintendo, but I don't think they will ever replace the standard controller.

As hugely successful as the Wii was, it slowly died as people grew tired of Wii Sports. Because there's only so many things you can do by waving your arms around or fake-punching. You need that core gamer community to ensure the longevity of your product. We may be a minority, but we are the heart of the consumer base.
