Mute the commercial and go do something.

Seriosuly.

It's not that big of a deal and considering, you are getting the content for free, aren't you?

what are slim jims? I've never heard of them.
I also am apparently missing out on something which is blatently obvious to everyone else :/
It's a stick of dried meat that you eat. It's basically beef jerky. But, if you squeeze one, then it oozes thick white stuff. That's right, it's a meat stick you put in your mouth and if you squeeze it white stuff oozes out.
It's not beef jerky, more like sausage.

They're actually 50% fat by weight, jerky is less than 3%. "Disgusting" isn't really the word. I'm not sure there's a word for that abomination.

and yeah, seriously I'm gonna slap a ***** if that commercial stays up much longer.

edit: I've gotten that commercial for every video for the past three weeks. I'm definitely not watching any more videos for a couple of weeks...and I pointed out how disgusting slim jims are...Advertising failure?

I understand that the site needs the sponsorship, but for the love of GOD mix it up a little! Even some self-advertising would be appreciated just so I can avoid hitting the Mute on my keyboard and switching to another tab for 30 seconds every time I start up a video!

Not to mention I disapprove of the commercial's racist views on ninjas...

Hey! You know that video you're about to watch?
The one provided to you free of charge? The one updated with new content on a weekly basis?
That one?

It costs money to make! Shocking, I know, but it does!
And the ads on the site pay for them! So you can either sit by and wait for 15 seconds, acknowledging the fact that you understand how basic marketing works, and that you're getting weekly video entertainment for free, or you can join the publisher's club can get no ads!

What's that? You aren't complaining about the ads, just the fact that it hasn't changed in a while?
Well I've seen a ton of the 'Jim, the HAMMER, Shapiro!' commercials in my time (Some New York Lawyer), and you just suck it up. Welcome to basic marketing. And guess what? By making this thread, you're proving that it works. People are talking about Slim-Jims, and some people haven't even heard of it before are going to look into it. Maybe they'll buy one! That's a new customer, all thanks to your thread!

Thanks for helping to make the Escapist successful!

I've been getting Civ 5 ones. Sure the slim jim one is a bit annoying but I just ignore it. Escapist has bills to pay so bitching about the ads is pretty dumb unless you're a paying member.

Yeah, it's annoying. It's the kind of commercial one would expect to see on Satuday morning cartoons. I feel like they think that since I play video games, I must be an immature child. It's annoying, it's demeaning, it should be gone.

That's why people hate marketing executives.

However all we're doing is giving Slim Jims negative press by suggesting that only gays and pedophiles consume them. I will never buy another one thanks to this commercial. Listen, I know that marketing executives always say that there's no such thing as bad press, but if press is making people hate your product, wouldn't that logically be bad?

Perhaps if they kept it to themselves.
But here this guy is, spouting about the 'stupid ad'! And there are at least 3 comments saying 'I've never heard of Slim Jims'. That's 3 people who have been exposed to a product without ever even seeing an ad. That's not even counting the people who are reading the thread and not commenting! And by participating in this thread, you're participating in the Slim Jim marketing!

You are all so dedicated to the success of the Escapist!
Thanks Guys!

Are willfully ignoring the logic, or are you just stupid? We hate Slim Jims. I guarantee that most of the people on this thread will never by another one (if they ever did) again. We're all just bitching about what a horrible product they've made. Even the people who are exposed to them for the first time are getting some of the most negative reviews ever. Not to mention that having this ad on this website is like calling everyone here stupid. Is that really an effective marketing strategy, creating a product everyone hates and then insulting potential customers?

First off, don't call me stupid. Or make passive aggressive comments suggesting it.
I haven't engaged in personal attacks, you won't either.

Secondly, you obviously aren't getting the fact that you're still exposing people to the product, whether it's negative or not. People who have never heard of it are being introduced to the product. And though you say that these references are all negative, let me ask: Who are you?

Someone complaining about something on the internet is hardly new, and most people are hardened to it, now. As a frequenter of this and a few other forums, I hear complaints about every and all things, yet I know that most of them are personal taste, not objective fact.

For example, I used to own a Mazda. I hated that car. Say I went online and created a thread about how I hate all Mazda cars because of that stupid, money sink of a car. Someone who hasn't had a lot of experience with the Mazda brand might go 'Oh man, that sounds awful. Maybe I should stay away.' And then later hears their close friend saying 'Man, I LOVE my Mazda! It's great!'

Who has more credibility?

Obviously people enjoy Slim Jims, otherwise they wouldn't be in business this long. So all it would take is someone to say 'I heard Slim Jims suck' and their friend, or brother, or cousin, or whatever to say 'Oh no! I love Slim Jims!' And your word is gone, but your introduction to the product is still there! Also: All it takes is one curious person, in the midst of all this 'negativity', to try one and enjoy it. Heck, even just to try it! BAAM! New customer.

That's how marketing works.
And, judging by how much you guys are all talking about Slim Jims in this thread, it's working.
Negative or not, you're thinking about their product, and talking about it with others.

Thanks for participating in the Slim Jim marketing campaign!

Really? REALLY!? I was JUST about to make this topic. The commercials are bad, I had no idea those kids were saying "WWE Champions" until about the 500th viewing because they slur the words, the ninja "fight" scene is done so bad, SO BAD, that it isn't even good. And why THE HELL IS THERE A GIRL THAT NODS!? I mean, what the hell?

Even in the beginning of the video, it says "somewhere really awesome" and frankly, I don;t believe it. They shouldn't use the world "really" they should have used some other synonym. It sounds as if they are saying "This place is awesome, really!" No, no, no, no a thousand times no. I hate this ad, it lowers me IQ and it makes me want to kill babies.

Good day, sir.
