Fake Irish accents. They fail. Minly because there is no Irish accent.
Really? And how would you know? My best friend, D, is a pureblood American Irish, 3rd generation (his grandparents are Irish immigrants. He is fluent in Gaelic, and he tells me that the Irish have very distinct accents. Have you ever seen the film "Gangs of New York?" Listen to Liam Neeson speaking in the very beginning. The accent sounds a little like that; a lilt, almost sounds sing-songy. Whereas the Scottish accent sounds similar, but spoken in the back of one's throat--almost guttural.
I meant that there is no singular Irish accent. There are thousands of Irish accents and I have yet to hear one that sounds like the American stereotypical Irish accent.

Congrats to your friend who is fluent in Gaeilge. I struggle to get to grips with it and I've been learning it in school for over 13 years now.

I thought that the Just Cause 2 voices were so bad that they were good. It fits with the rediculous but awesome story.

There was this woman at my store the other day, having a LOUD conversation in Spanish on her phone. Her accent was so bad I swear my abuelita (grandmother) would have walked over, *****-slapped her, and called her something rude. Agh... if you can't even FAKE a Spanish accent (or Mexican, or whatever) don't freaking speak the language.

I have to say Irish accents, it seems to be a really hard accent to pull off. And not many people can do it well.

normally I don't hate anyone for their accent but for some reason I just plain hate that girls voice.
I can't blame you. That was the literal definition of ear rape.
God, how can anyone get within 5 feet of her, never mind sleep with her?

OT: This girl, or Tommy Wiasu. That guy from The Room.

That woman in charge of the Reapers in Just Cause 2.

"My name is Bola Santosi!"

I think that was her name...

The accent sounded so badly forced that it hurt my ears just to listen to it.
This, dear god this.

Actually, scratch that, just about any accent in just cause two. Its like they intentionally did it to make the players want to quit. I am astounded I completed that

Stephen Hawking is British yet he talks with that silly fake American accent. What a poseur.
Best post of the day.

OT: Sean Connery's "Irish" (aka Scottish) accent in The Untouchables ranks high.

Yeah. Whenever people try to do an Irish accent it comes off sounding less Irish than a garbled mix of Scottish and gibberish. That's how the people I know sound when attempting them anyway.

What's so bad about that accent? It's fine. Europe has win accents.

For me, best is Norwegian and worst is the heavy, squeaky American.

In another case I was somewhat entertained a few years ago when a Frenchman was visiting and made fun of my mother for the accent she sported (Pacific northwest American if you want to know) when she was speaking English. It was one of those "Do you really have the right to make fun of anyone's accent right now Mr. Peppe le Pew?" moments.
The daughter should be executed.

OT: any of you ever watched that one Scooby Doo movie with the Vampires?
I fucking hated everyone's accent in that movie.

I love it when someone foreign speaks English with a thick accent, however I hate it when anyone foreign attempts an English accent. It sounds awful.
I hate the American films where they get a American actor to play a British person... DRIVES ME MAD.
This. Like every English person is unbearably posh and from a rich family who hunts in rural England.

Russel Crowe's accents in Robin Hood were rubbish. He changed his accent about three times in the one movie and they all sucked. I don't understand why they didn't just get an English bloke to play Robin.

Seconded

The funny part is that the german government nominated him to be the European Commissioner for Energy...
I'am still trying to find out how someone with seemingly no knowledge of the english language can go for such a job...
Because you don't need to know english in the commission. English is not an official working language in any way, nor is any other language. There are people as interpreters, after all.

Perhaps something of the opposite of what was intended for this thread, but I've come to realise that english accents in other languages could be the most hilarious thing ever.
For instance, I currently reside in Geneva working at an international work place. I have a limited knowledge of french from swedish elementary school, which is helpful when going to the lunch restaurants. A week or so ago, I heard an american guy order coffee with the heaviest accent I've ever heard.

"Qatre cafey, sill vou play!" I realise my own french problably doesn't sound very good, but I could've sworn this was straight from a comedy.

I don't know, it just generally makes me want to hit her in the face with parts of her cool car for an undefined timelength. This urge kinda implies for me that it sucks.
Then again I'm biased by beeing a bit of an English zealot and probably one of very few people outside the UK who can keep most of the regional accents apart...

90% of the time when a Finn speaks English on TV I just want to break the entire device and never use my ears again. Some of us have bearable accents, but most of the time it's embarrassing to the point of being painful. Especially when it's some politician.
I'm probably guilty of this too, though.

I can usually cope with most accents, but the ones that spring to mind are:

Growing up in the Boyzone era in England, all of my peers were constantly telling me how sexy the Irish accent is. It's not. It's so grating, even when it's a mild accent, although Ulster is the absolute WORST.

Australian accents. In fairness to Australians though, this is less to do with the accent, and more to do with the fact that the two people I hear speaking with it most are the most boring, annoying penises I have ever met and as such, I now just associate the sound with feeling an intense need to kill.
