Set up a camera to watch it, study its behavior meticulously for about a week (including remaining there watching it for more than a day), before attempting to make contact with the specimen while witnesses look on. If at all possible, I would attempt to get a sample of hair/skin flakes.
Watch it, make sure there aren't any reports of people disappearing from the area and then go to the park and see if it's still there when I go right up to it.
If it is I'd wing it from there and if it isn't I'd stop worrying about it.

has the monster ever noticed you are watching him?? if not i would get a gun, sniper rifle or anything with good enough stability to get a shot into the thing, then in about midnight when he is just standing there, i would aim for a leg and shoot, if he is hurt and acts violently i then would continue to fire untill he was death, if he is hurt but just wimpers or something, i would go down and ask him "are you ok?, what happened? i heard a gun shot!"

Large sharp teeth? Long claws? Perhaps...deadly claws? Oh no! A deathclaw! Well, first I'd shoot it with my dart gun to cripple its legs, then it would be a simple matter of VATSing it in the head a few times with the alien blaster. AND DAMN THE CONSEQUENCES!
well I'd probably set up some monitoring device. If it just up and leaves, wait for it the next day and follow it, but bring a friend with you or something (they don't have to know whats going on just say you want to go for a walk). If it just goes in a circle and sit back down, try to throw something at it. If the object goes through the monster walk up to it and possibly try to communicate.
I'd put a small knife in my pocket as a precaution, then approach it when no one is there and attempt be a friend.
