only 40 hours? i'm sure you'll cope
agreed, I've lost well over 200 hours in accidentally saving over my Dark Cloud 2 saves, but that didn't stop me from trying again! Do I want to build another castle that takes me about 20 hours each? Hell yes!

Ouch.

Lost my 100% Red Dead Redemption files when I switched to the 360 Slim. They corrupted. I raged.

Take it from Psycho Mantis: be wise and careful: save often. He should know, he's the world leader in psychokinesis or something.

I lost a 500 hour Oblivion character. I was upset, but inspired to go forth to enjoy a completely different play style with a new character and get another 300 hours on him. So things like this aren't always a bad thing, I would of probably never have played for as long if it weren't for the forced switch up making things more fresh.

How did you lose 40 hours of your life? You played it you laughed you cryed you had fun. How is anything gone from you. Its all inside man, memories never let go of em.

Playing to much Final Fantasy again (playing through the entire series again)

If you think that is bad, when my PS3 yellow lighted on me, I lost everything, nearly perfect AC2, Disgaea 3, loads of mods on UT3, all game progress from a few years of playing, gone in a second, got a new ps3 slim however, and perfected AC2, got further than I did on Disgaea 3, re downloaded the mods for UT3, and got over it, you will do the same too, believe me, ( not to mention my some 700 hours in diamond and pearl lost when, after trading everything over to heart gold, lost the cartridge, planning to start all over again when B+W comes out, ultimately, you've had it pretty easy in comparison to me :)

I always do what I call Piggyback saves, which is just saving in one slot, then using a second slot for the next save, then I switch back to the first slot, and back again, etc.

Similar thing happened with Far Cry 2. Accidently saved over my usual slot (nearly done with the game), with a new character I made for kicks. The thing is, I hate Far Cry 2. I just felt I had to beat it, but once I did that, I said screw it, and never picked it up again.

EDIT: And then there was the time where I successfully ambushed Gaul's last family member, in Rome: Total War, with a numerically inferior army.

But with some careful tactics, and superb commanding (if I do say so myself) I managed to defeat the Gauls, destroy their nation, and take the day..... Until a tree decided to fall on a nearby transformer causing a neighborhood blackout...

Well, from a purely technical standpoint, everyone who played Mass Effect 2 lost 40 hours of your lives. The problem is that you lost that much and didn't even get the fictional payoff of ending the game.

On my way home from US base in Afghanistan , bringing my 360 with me. Save files for roughly 20 different games on it. Never hooked up to live. It got damaged on the plane ride, hard drive couldn't be removed. Lost everything......made me a very sad panda. Files for everything from oblivion to halo to mass effect.....it was traggic.

i respect you for being in afganistan. the military should pay for someone to replay all the games just the way you did and get all your data back lol

Ouch, I know your pain.

Same thing has happened to me several times over the years, like in Soul Calibur 3 for the PS2 (3/4's of the characters, most of the campaign, items, collectibles, etc. down the drain).

For ME2 though, that has to suck even more.

You have my sympathies.

I hate that because then you don't want to play for awhile. Keeps happening to me in RDR. It SAYS it saved but next time I turn it on only what was done on the last session was lost.

That happened to me in Borderlands, luckily it was only a level 30 character. One day I just hopped on the Xbox to play, popped in the disk and was greeted to a pop up that said "Save Corrupted!" when I tried to load my character. Luckily a lvl 50 friend of mine boosted me back up in no time.

And this is why I literally have three backups on three seperate harddrives for all my Mass Effect saves, both part 1 and 2. I didn't put 40 hours in, I put 40 hours in per character. I have seven.
