I think during the whole time commitment you meet other people and in a way you see your MMO as a sort of instant messenger.
Even now i log onto Runescape occasionally to talk to my old friends.
I understand where you are coming from but i've been reading up and apparently Guildwars is one of these "Casual MMOs" if there is such a thing.

Sounds like your cuppa tea if you want to play an MMO but dont have the time.

I liked EVE, I just wasn't willing to pay a subscription, no game is worth a subscription!

So you rather spend 50 bucks a month on a new game then 15 on a game that has high re playability? The subscription excuse never made sense to me.
Yea, it never made sense to me either. Fifteen dollars a month is just $180 a year. You can either
1.) Get 3 games that will last you a few weeks each, maybe even a few months if it's like Halo 3 (I still play Halo 3 fairly regularly) or Little Big Planet.
2.)You can spend that same amount of money on a game?like EVE Online?that not only lasts the entire year, but continues to evolve and change.
I don't know about you, but I'd rather spend the money on something I'll be playing for years to come.
4-5 bottles of whiskey...but both is better, mmo's are better while drunk.

See, this confuses the hell out of me. People are willing to drop 50-60 bucks on the latest space marine game that they can finish in one or two days, but they aren't willing to drop 65 on a game they will certainly get a month out of?
MMO's to me don't offer a month of enjoyement. Yes, I've tried, I had a two month WoW trial, and I ended up using only one month, realising that I could choose between waisting the payment of that month or waisting the payment of that month AND a month of my life.

What I find especialy infuriating about MMO's is that you do thesame the whole time. Sure, in most games, you do stuff that's quite the same, but only MMO's give me the feeling I'm doing the exact same thing, just to different monsters. If you would compare that to Call of Duty 4, there are the occasional tanks, hostages or sniper missions which you have to play in a COMPLETELY different matter.

Another problem to me, with MMO's, is the feeling that the world you're playing is isn't developing. You're just not making any impact. For example, (spoiler warning, I guess), only when you pick up the radio dish for three dogs in Fallout 3, you can receive GNR everywhere. MMO's simply can't do that, because only one player would be able to do that (and don't even get me started about megaton, you just can't do that in an MMO).

MMOs seem to all be bound to the "click once and hope you win" combat system. This ISN'T fun! I don't get why they don't ditch this boring crap and replace it with a combat system like a conventional RPG or something that requires SKILL.

The only MMO ive ever played was city of heroes/villians which was pretty fun while the subscription lasted. the weird thing is was that i never felt compelled to play it every day.

My brother plays allot of EVE, i don't know how he does it and he's been playing much longer that i have. I used to play as well but i got bored when i got up to battleship skill and could barely do anything in it.

But yeah games like that do require lots of time commitment.

As far as MMOs go, my game of pick is Guild Wars. With the story based campaigns it plays a lot like your typical RPG, just online and with people. You don't even have to play with others if your feeling like that much of a social misanthrope. The game gives you the option of adding in NPC characters to your party in place of other players, making sure you never have to go in alone. As far as fees go, there are none. Feel free to drop the game and come back to it later without any real consequences.
Guild Wars isn't technically an MMO.
Why not? It's massive, multiplayer, and online.
It's mostly instanced with a central access point, and from what i read impossible to run into people 'in world' apart from the city area who you aren't grouped with.

It's essentially, 3D server browser, connecting to multiple instances. MMO is largely one world.
Very true. It certainly lacks the ability to meet players that WoW or something has.
