Ok everyone, as most of us are aware at this point, North Korea has shelled a South Korean Island and caused most of the world to start yelling ta them over it.

But what this makes me think is this: These two countries have officially been in a state of war for about fifty years now.........FIFTY YEARS!!! Seriously, what theh hell is wrong with htese people? I mean if they want peace, declare peace, if you want war, just go ahead and attack each other. But being in a state of war and doing nothing but trading insults for half a century is just ridiculous.

Now I know that I may sound like a horrible person for saying this but here it is. I wish that the two Koreas would jusy have it out already. I mean this "will they, won't they" thats been going on is just getting tired. Lets just get it done and over with.

Hopefully this shelling will lead to some sort of conclusion to this, peace or war, either suits me.

Please tell me what you think and I apologise if anyone though I am being too harsh over this.

Did you ever hear of the Korean War?
This [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_War] may help. It is quite interesting to read.

To clarify, I do know about the Korean war but my statement was talking about the Fifty years since. Sorry if I did not make that clear.

Well, if they start warring each other, it's probably inevitable that the US will involve itself.

Plus, I'm pretty sure that we're not letting them war it out. We have troops over there on both sides of the border to prevent this.

Pffft. North and South Korea have nothing against the rivalry between North and South Dakota.

They've actually gone nuclear!

I just wanna say there never was a nuclear war between North and South Dakota. Normally I wouldn't feel the need to put this disclaimer, but this is the internet...

IF war breaks out America will just show up and steamroll who-ever we want to lose. If China jumps in, Japan has our back. ^.^
Nothing to worry about, just more money for the war profiteers and an end to a really annoying stalemate.
Now if Israel and their enemies went to open war, THAT would be an issue.

You do realize that Japan's military force is limited to a self-defense force, right? The only thing we'd have from Japan is economic support.

China is unlikely to go to war over North Korea these days.
Isreal in open war, you mean like the other half dozen times over the last few decades? As things stand, that is a non-issue except for those directly involved. That's only likely to change if Iran gets nukes, then 'd expect a first strike by Isreal, an almighty mass, and oil proces going through the roof.

Hahaha, ehem.

OP: It is not that easy. If it was, it would have heppened already. A war between North and South Korea could start a World War. North Korea is backed by China and South Korea is back by the US to start. Who knows where other countries will fall into.

To this day, the Korean War is technically not over. An armistace was signed, but no official peace treaty was ever ratified.

While the United States does maintain a significant military presence along the Korean DMZ, U.S. troops only operate on the South Korean side of the border. The North Koreans would never allow American troops across their border for any reason.

US kinda has to get involved if the conflict escalates, as South Korea is a very close and loyal ally of the US, and the US has a few military bases in south korea. Plus it's in the US' interest to have a stable Japan and South Korea the far east. However I'm pretty sure that there are no foreign troops in north korea.
Plus, the majority of the south korean population does not want a war. The korean war pretty much devastated the whole peninsula and the wounds still haven't healed, and I doubt that they'll heal in the near future. Plus, both sides know too full well how much damage another war will cause.

The two countries have been somewhat peaceful for most of the 50 years. Thought techinically at war, both sides signed a ceasefire and there haven't been any major conflicts between the two since. That being said, there have been several border clashes between troops and patrols over the years, but nothing like this year. Sinking of a south korean warship and shelling of a south korean island with civilians seems to point that something horrible might happen soon.

Plus there is nothing wrong or ridiculous with these people. The war in the 50s almost destroyed the whole peninsula, why would anyone want this to happen again? Plus neither side was really in any condition to resume hostilities for about two decades after the war as they were busy rebuilding their countries and for even longer the cold war acted as an effective deterrent for both sides from attacking each other- south korea had the US' backing whilst north korea had russia and china.
Even today no sane person in either country would initiate an attack on another due to international politics. North korea has china as an ally, whilst the south has the US and the western countries. If anything were to happen in the peninsula, it would risk a conflict on a global scale.
It's also important to note the general views and atmosphere in south korea on the north- they do not want a war. The south koreans do want either a unification or a much more accessible and friendly north korea through peace.

Anyone find it weird that they're doing this right after North Korea openly told the world they built a nuclear plant? >.>

I thought I read recently that they had troops on both sides. My bad, I must have read it wrong. >.>

Does this finally give us an excuse to Nuke North Korea and Kim Jong Il?

Please tell me it does!!
Let's not start a war with Communist China from launching nukes in their neighbor. Fallout is not what I'd call an ideal world.
