Get rid of Norton and use Kaspersky, I hear that's the best. I use a combo of 4 different frees and boast no viruses.

If you want to be sure that you have no viruses then I suggest you do a full scan using Norton, Malwarebytes and AVG free. These'll make sure that you have no viruses and will keep you safe from any other viruses.

Simple answer: No.

Download and run Super Anti-Spyware AND Spybot Search and Destroy. Immediately.

Then download something that can actually protect your computer. Microsoft Security Essentials isn't that bad.

Download Prevx [http://www.prevx.com/]. Just the free version will do. It only scans and detects things on your computer, and doesn't remove them, but it will find almost any virus that is known very quickly. Why and how? Because it uses a cloud to find the viruses. It's a good way to double-check your system is secure.

As for Norton, I don't get the hate. Just like with Windows Vista, I think the hate comes from people that have no idea what they're doing and just mash keys when they sit down at a computer. You'd have to be some sort of slobbering idiot to mess up with Norton, since it's made to be user friendly while also having a wide range of features. Norton 360 is great. I just don't use it because there are free options that are just as good.

For free options, go with Microsoft Security Essentials and get MalwareBytes, and an anti-spyware software like Ad-Aware.

Aren't trojans supposed to protect you from viruses?
Have you ever heard of The Iliad? In it, the greeks build a massive-ass wooden horse, and crap a bunch of soldiers in it and gift it to the Trojans. They then hid 'round the corner, so that the Trojans think it's a surrender gift. Anyways, when night comes, horsey opens up, reveals Greeks, who rape/murder/pillage/burn whatever they see, then open the Trojan Gates, which could not be broken down since it was built by gods, and all the ships came back 'round the corner and sacked the city. The horse is called a 'Trojan Horse'. The virus gets in your computer by pretending it's safe and good, then when it's inside Troy (Your Computer) It lets loose the Greeks (A shitload of viruses).

So no, it's not meant to protect against viruses.

I love it how people see the word Norton and implode. I've never seen any proof that it sucks, but I still don't use it.

As long as your Norton is up-to-date, you're as safe as you can hope to be.
I beg to differ

I used Norton AV for 8 years and never once had a problem. (Now run Mac OS)
HAHAHAHAHA no wonder you have no troubles, Mac is so shitty, coders don't waste time making viruses for it.

My friend told me to download this file, then Norton Internet Security spotted a trojan, and told me that it removed it about 3 times, then it stopped. Is my computer safe now? (just making sure)
No, get rid of Norton, Avast or AVG. Only use Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, and Spybot Search and Destroy(networking major here :p)
avg and spybot tend to work nicely together, in my honest oppinion.

I use AVG and super antispyware on my laptop, just because I cannot connect to the college network without it.

I use Avarst and super antispyware on my Desktop.

Oh also...

I run with Kaspersky. It catches EVERYTHING. Even password protected files I download. It's amazing, I have enver felt safer and Norton takes up too many resources.
