If you were born in the 90's or mid 80's, you know it.

There have been many topics on the subject, so i'll get right to the point:

What were your favorites?

Mine:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It taught our generation to care for nature, this cartoon probably was one of the biggest influences in my life. This was the only show ever that I actually wanted the villains to lose.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amazing animation, beautiful story, an occasionally dark and deep plots and characters. A golden example.
It also influenced the original; good Clone wars series.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah yes, the Powerpuff girls; the show all of us boys watched but didn't admit to anyone other than thier close friends.

It was later imported into japan and took on a anime quality, as well as an suffix all too well known by us...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was the undisputed king. Every Saturday night all of the countries 5-13 years olds crowded around the TV to watch it, and nothing would stop them.

It was unstoppable; when it ended, they gave us Dragon ball, the original. When it, they gave us Z again, and then once it ended, they gave us GT. Hell, now's there Kai, so Goku is still going strong.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll admit, I don't remember Wing very well, I can only recall seeing 1 episode, but i'm sure I saw more, because I remember seeing the badass known as epyon:

Anyways, I recall G gundam much better. For those who didn't see it, it's like this:
Remember the budokai tourments in Dragonball? It's like that, only with giant mechs, and a gundam version of the gravemind from Halo.

THIS HAND OF MINE GLOWS WITH AN AWESOME POWER!

IT'S BURNING GRIP TELLS ME TO DEFEAT YOU!

TAKE THIS!!!

MY LOVE!

MY ANGER!

AND ALL OF MY SORROW!!!

SHINING FINGER!!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The green ranger kicked ass.

Oh, what did you say? an old kitty cat? a bird? an elephant? the prehistoric equailvent of a rhino and lizard? I've got a FREAKING DRAGON!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wanna be, the very best...

I can garnuntee you that if you post a topic with that title, you'll have the entire song in a string of quotes.

Oh, and watch this:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(i'm only doing the 1st opening, there's too many!)

I always thought digimon was better than pokemon.

Bare with me here:

1. the monster designes are better:

2. The series stayed good. the anime of digimon still running now is still awesome. It's darker than pokemon too.

3. The villains are actually evil and cabable of winning. You don't want to know how often they kill off charecters. This guy is a good example, his name is Diablomon:

During Tai and Izzy's first fight with them, he breaks all previous evolution rules by skipping a level, making them think he was merely a Champion until it was too late, then he blasts them in the middle of a Transformation Sequence. As a viral digimon who has infected the Internet, after he's aware of their threat the first thing he does is call every single phone number on the planet, clogging up the lines and blocking their Internet connection. When they bypass that with a satellite up-link, he uses that same up-link to hack into government's computers and launches nukes at Tai's neighborhood to wipe out the only people in the world who could threaten him. Finally, despite his victory being almost assured, he starts duplicating himself until there are millions of copies of him on the Internet. That's not even taking into consideration what he pulls off in the sequel...

That is, he turns into a freaking eldrich abomination. There's not even a picture on the damn internet that shows the size of him and his whole body at once.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Imagine ghost busters, but instead of just ghosts, it's demons and all other evil crap. And instead of a vacum, you capture these scum with your bare hands and enegry blasts. Oh, and you have to deal with the emontional feelings of these ghosts, how they died, and keeping all the dmons from spilling over into the human releam.

The power of the villians one up each other almost as much as in DBZ, it's insane.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yugioh was awesome. To bad that all the good parts were cut, for the US, like before duel monsters became the central point of the plot, and when the whole acient egypt stuff got explained. Trust me, it was awesome.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You know, i just realized that they rarely ever show the endings of these series. The didn't with yugioh, nor with zatch bell, nor with yu yu hakasho, nor with shamen king (we'll get to that later).

It's unfoertante, because it's starts getting pretty dark and becomes way better in the end.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know it looks crappy, but by the time we got to metals, it was awesome.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the video speaks for it'self.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was my first taste of non animal transformers, and I loved it.

Then they moved to energon... Ugh.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This show was good to the end.

I miss it dearly.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I realize I didn't list them all, there were many more, I plan to update the OP with them, so give me suggestions!

the "Golden Age" of Cartoons is a myth.

It's all about the period you grew up in. No matter what period that is, those will be your favorite cartoons.
Exactly, but as what I guessed the majority of the escapist community grew up in this one, it'd be the "golden age" for us.
The issue is that I didn't have my childhood in the 80's, or 70's or anything other tha the 90's and early 00's.

Therefore, I don't feel it'd be right of me to include cartoons from before than, as I never experienced them, so I can't relay or properally exhibit what made those shows special.

If someone wants to make a list like I did in the OP, and turn it into a thread, feel free to, we could have a link in each of them to the other, or something.

Holy hell you've listed most of the one's I was thinking of in that. Though you did miss two biggies IMO.

That would be Ed, Edd, and Eddy and Freakazoid. And typing Freakazoid just made me remember a third, Zoids.

Power rangers is up there, I listed zoids way at the bottom, with ed, edd, and eddy.

I just didn't have time for videos of those two.

I could spend days on end making a list, so maybe later if this topic stays alive i'll update it.

EDIT: also, please at least watch the second pokemon video, it's worth it.

And for the ones that say embeding disabled, just double click it.

I can't believe you forgot Monster Rancher, and Card Captors. Those two, plus Pokemon and Digimon gave me more then an adequate supply of animal fighting.

Before my time ;)

Do you know what one of use should do?

Make a giant crossover painting with all the chrecters from all the above series.

Or not, it may end the world.

It'd be worth it.

I would argue the 80s were more the golden age of cartoons (but then again, I'm probably older than you are). Thundercats would be a prime example. But the 90s had some very fine specimens as well, and Toonami was very fine.

Damnit, now I'm not going to be satisfied until I find all the old Yu-Yu-Hakusho episodes...

Also, more on-topic, I think pretty much most of the stuff on Toonami(for the first two or three versions of Tom at least) deserve to be in a museum somewhere.

I wish they kept Mewtwo's origin in the film, it would have made it so much better.

You're lucky Irridium covered for you!
Sorry, XLR was going to be after Naruto, which was after ed edd and eddy, which was after zoids.

I didn't want to have mecha all in a row.

That period of cartoons ended right around when I was born, around when captain planet started, the last of it's kind. So i'll put it in honorable mentions.

If anybody is up for a giant nostalgia tribute drawing, i'm in!

By in, I mean you do the work, and I just put my name on it :p

Such a good show. Seriously, fuck you Ted Turner, for cancelling this in its prime and shoveling more Captain Planet down our throats. Go to hell and take your cheap suit with you.

Like I said before, those 2 were before my time.

But i'll add them near the bottom.

But at least captain planet was both entertaining and educational. Please, I don't want this to turn into an epic nostalgia fight...

because we all know that Goku would win :p
