So, my XBox Live Gold membership expires tomorrow, and I've decided not to renew. The only time I ever actually use the service is for a very rare game of Halo, which only occurs when the planets align and my buddies are all free on the same evening.

I know I lose some perks for bumping on down to Silver, goodbye party chat, but is this even stuff I should actively be paying for in the first place, especially considering what PSN offers for free? I'm seriously considering getting a PS3 simply for beat em ups and other online multiplayer titles because, frankly, screw XBL.

Yeah. I found it to be a waste of money unless I have a bunch of friends with X-boxes. This is why I by all multiplayer games on PS3.

Yeah, there's not much point on Gold if you don't have anyone to play with.

Do you absolutely have nothing to do with the PS3 right now? Because if you're getting into another platform I suggest the PC instead.

The only reason I keep Gold is because I've got friends abroad that we play the sames games and I've also met a few (very few) guys online that are worth my time!

My subscription is set to renew soon but I sold my Xbox and recently switched banks so I look forward to all the emails demanding I change my account info so they can charge me.

Seeing as their big update is just around the corner, I would give it another month just to see if there's anything new that you like. It's an hour's worth of work for a month of unlimited bandwith.

Mine runs out on Friday and I'm not renewing mine right away, but for a completely different reason. I'm moving next Friday and I'm not sure how long it will be until I have broadband access again, so I simply don't want to waste money on XBL if I can't even use it.

It really is only worth it if you have a bunch of friends to play/chat with.

I got till like a few months in to next year before I run out. I will likely get more xbox live just not straight away as I'll have a new computer around then hopefully.

That is exactly what I did about 6 or 8 months ago, and I haven't regretted it once. I would strongly encourage you to get a PS3 and to stop giving those money-grubbing douchebags at Xbox your hard-earned cash. I have had so much fun with my Playstation. The community tends to be much more mature (with the exception of MW3, but that's kind of expected). I love knowing that when I buy a game for my Playstation, I get full access to the entire game for my $60, instead of just the singleplayer.

Just so you know PSN is an inferior service the patches take an age to download and for some reason it always tells me my internet is broken when my Xbox and PC connect just fine so just a small word of warning but it is good other than that.

Goodbye xbox live, goodbye anything else but independently published games, goodbye Escapist, goodbye Origin, goodbye Steam, goodbye Facebook...

These threads pop up every now and then. All I see is a cry for attention, and begging for compliments and online respect on the "high moral grounds" or "profound thoughts" the OP thinks they've achieved and acted upon.

As a PC gamer, it sounds ridiculous they charge for something like that.

It's 50$ a year that's like 4$ a month . Not exacly breakig the bank account . Plus as far as i hear there is more maintainance on xbox 360 because we actually pay for the service .

OT: why are you paying for a service you do not use?

I let mine run down this year after I switched to mostly PC gaming. Only thing I ended up using it for was netflix anyway. May get a subscription again later this year when Halo 4 comes out, but for now my 360 sits in my entertainment center, not even hooked up.
