My subscription is set to renew soon but I sold my Xbox and recently switched banks so I look forward to all the emails demanding I change my account info so they can charge me.
You can do it by logging into the sites and enter your profile. I think it took me about 10 minutes to wander through menus and log in on different versions of the same site, but at least I managed to cancel my subscription. Although they don't seem to make a big deal out of it if your credit card information is invalid either. All that happened to me was that I had to pay for a one month subscription before I was allowed to buy a renewal. Hardly something that will bother you who sold yours.

OT: I know how you feel, I don't even have the power adapter to my Xbox around so paying for this service is a waste. I bought the gold membership mainly because I got a good deal on it. I also doubt my network is good for online matches.

I used to play it lots but me and most of my friends have pretty much moved to PC now. I think I need to renew it soon and was wondering whether I should or not as I hardly use it.

Im thinking I may let it expire but I kinda want to get one last year of it.

So, my XBox Live Gold membership expires tomorrow, and I've decided not to renew. The only time I ever actually use the service is for a very rare game of Halo, which only occurs when the planets align and my buddies are all free on the same evening.

I know I lose some perks for bumping on down to Silver, goodbye party chat, but is this even stuff I should actively be paying for in the first place, especially considering what PSN offers for free? I'm seriously considering getting a PS3 simply for beat em ups and other online multiplayer titles because, frankly, screw XBL.
I'm thinking of doing the same. I used to play way too much Call of Duty , but now I am done with the series. Those damn multiplayer games are just a repetitive time sink. I'd have a lot more gaming satisfaction focusing only on finishing single player games.

I don't plan on resubscribing either. The service has only gotten worse (no that isn't nostalgia. It's fact). Too many adds, to hard to purchase and find XBLA games (which are expensive now. All of them seem $5 overpriced), too little sails, and no new games with multiplayer I'm interested in. I don't like COD, yet every game is trying to be COD now.

I'm going back to PC. Simple enough. Microsoft is going to retard the system, I won't support it.

And yes, I plan on complaining to microsoft so they actually know they are losing customers. Not that it will do anything.

Errm... Congratulations, I guess?

You've shown that you are capable of reasoning not to pay annually for a thing you don't use.

Good job?

I wish more people would do this, maybe microsoft would stop charging for something that should have been included with the system
It's 50$ a year that's like 4$ a month . Not exacly breakig the bank account . Plus as far as i hear there is more maintainance on xbox 360 because we actually pay for the service .

OT: why are you paying for a service you do not use?
Yeah, and that's only if you get it at full price and not if they've got some 1/3rd off sale.

Fun games to play: Compile a list of things you spend more in a year than xbox live. 1) Socks.

Agreeing with the OT too, why would you do that?

OT: Well, yeah, I think krazykidd got it straight up, I have nothing more to add really.

I honestly don't know why people are dumb enough to actually pay for their broadband service THEN pay more money to get access to "Extra Features" from Xbox Gold, when on the PC you get all the features of Gold without having to pay any extra!

Just saying that's all

Yeah stopped mine ages ago because I will be buggered if im paying for a service I only use for a max of 20 hours a year, it was a major event to get a load of friends online at the same time playing the same game especially as when we were all free odds are we would meet up and go down the pub instead of playing anyway. Oh and we only had a about 2 games we all had.

I had a PS3 anyway so it was a no brainer for me I dont use online very much on that either but it dosent matter because its free and I have had no real problems with it sure its not as streamlined as Xbox live but for 40 pounds less a year I can live with that.

Im done with paying extra to go online on top of the broadband I may have to move to PC if Sony pull this as well as Microsoft next gen but then I have clients *groan* ok maybe no online gaming for me then its not like I do much now anyway.

Well if you feel your not using it then fair enough, but I don't get why the complaints about the paying, £40 a year, or less than £4 a month, isn't that much, especially when you do use it nearly every day.

Well mine runs out in a few weeks but I'm probably still keep it since I'm starting to get bored with my 100% play through of Saints Row the Third so I might go back to my Black Ops clan before all the fall games i want start piling up. Not to mention there is party chat, youtube, and the new web browser coming which are gold exclusive.

Yah i got my Gold renewed after having it set to Silver for a while and, I just cant bring myself to really use it for anything. I got so accustomed to just enjoying some single player games at my own pace i dont want to go online and play anything competitive. The whole Xbox Live service is one of the more prominent reasons i've been looking into the Wii U, if it still retains its free online, hopefully less lag-infested than the first Wii was...Plus, i'm finding a lot of fun in the F2P shooters out now on PC, so yah.

All valid points. I have Netflix...which I watch on my PC or 3DS if I'm just that freaking lazy. I have multiple means of talking to my friends while gaming. Most importantly though I don't play online multiplayer. You, like me, are about to save a good bit of money. Well a BIT of money depending on how you look at it. I still only use my PS3 for Blu Ray movies...

you decided to stop paying for something you dont use, good times ^_^

I enjoy multiplayer gaming, gaming with friends fairly often and xbla games so i think £40 a year is a small price to pay for a stable well maintained online service ^_^

The only thing that annoyed me was when microsoft automatically charged me for more live, even though i set it to warn and ask me beforehand...

Its the monthly charge which seems overpriced to me.

Turns out that without Xbox Live Gold, they decide you suddenly can't use the Netflix app, you know, to access another company's content, that you're already paying for separately, while both the Wii and PS3 have apps for the service that you can use without subscribing to a supposedly "premium" membership. Also, let's not forget that Netflix probably paid them a substantial amount to be featured on there so that they can advertise they're available on all home consoles.

It also turns out that their call centre are apparently incapable of taking a complaint, and I've just had service consultants, plural, telling me the only way to make a formal complaint is via traditional mail in the UK. Since when did a recorded phone call stop being evidence enough of exactly what has been said and since when did this stop being 2012?

This is going to be a fun letter to write!

I don't have an Xbox, so maybe this invalidates my opinion, but I can't believe Microsoft has the gall to charge for Xbox Live and have advertisements everywhere on the service. I'm surprised more people aren't pissed off about paying for a service that shoves ads down their throats.

Look, I'm not trying to hate on Xbox, but if Sony can offer the same services with no ads or subscription fee (which is better is a different matter, but they both pretty much offer the same stuff), then why does Microsoft get away with having both?

This.
Does it really need a thread? Was there a question or discussion?

My gold account ran out last month, don't plan on getting another 3 month card.

As someone who doesn't play Fifa, CoD or Gears but more niche games that have dead servers I just don't use it enough, The only MP games that I got any use out of it was Dark Souls and a bit of Spacemarine.

The main reason I had gold was due to all the good XBLA games that were on sale to gold account only, but the last 3 or so months there's been a big drop in the quanity of XBLA discount sales. Nowadays it's mostly just AAA DLC, Even then sometimes there's not enough to fill every box on the screen, so they've just put some XBLA game still at full price or an advert.

Meh I suppose it stops me from spending as much money in impulse buying, With the crappy dash i've stopped using the dash completely this past couple of weeks, now I just put my disk in or use quickplay.

I can understand this reasoning, as I havent played a MP game in about a month, and dont plan on playing one anytime soon, when my Gold membership expires this month, im not gonna bother with it either.

There is nothing buy multiplayer that I use Gold for.
