I still have to force myself to complete the Fade, even though I know it like the back of my hand and can do it fairly quickly. Why so much red and brown!?
Skip the fade mod from dragonagenexus.com. download it. install it. love it.

solution: don't play it. not every game appeals to every player. no person can convince you to like a game.

So yeah, the appeal is in the story and characters, seeing as almost all of the characters (Go fuck yourself, Zevran. Oh wait, you already have!)
I'm not alone in finding him creepy (FemWarden) the flirting... ahh the flirting!
I actually liked Zevran, he was a lot of fun. Also had some interesting views on npcs. And by the by, you do know that Zevran hits on MalwWarden just as much as FemWarden, right?

OT: I loved the characters of Dragon Age, and liked to see how they interacted. I also liked that if you do something that completely goes against one of the characters, they leave. No mucking about, they just leave.

Liliana if you defile The Urn of Sacred Ashes

Alistair if you recruit Loghain

Shale if you side with Branka

Eh, different strokes.

I enjoyed almost every bit about the game, if it's not your thing, it's not your thing.
At least you gave it a try.

Well i didn't say i hate it. From what I have seen I doubt I will hate it by the end. The game is just boring me. so if by the end I am angry or do not like what I did it will be my own damn fault. Not the game. Anyways I guess I will do some more on it.
Might I ask what you're playing as? Whatever it is (except mage, they are allowed more freedom in terms of build), don't try to be a jack-of-all trades. If you're a Warrior, you want to be just sword-and-shield or just two-handed (or archer...but rogues are much better for that). If you're a rogue, you want to be just a dual-wielding rogue or just an archer. Also, make sure you know what the attributes do.

But really, don't feel bad if you're continually underwhelmed. It happens.
I tried being a Rogue with pure Archer cause that is what i genially choose in RPG's and such. But I ended up hating it and am now a Mage.
Archer was literally the worst choice. It's pretty much the least fun to be had in a game.

While it's a riot in Bethesda RPG's it really doesn't work in DA:O.

Does this really warrant a thread? Especially this long after it came out.
Lol, 2009 is SOOOO long ago, M I RITE!? So I guess we can't talk about any final fantasy before 13 either?
What a delightfully daft response.

If this was a thread simply discussing it, that'd be groovy. As it stands, it's just another "I didn't like it despite the hype/popularity" thread, which will contain some bashing, some comparisons, a few people agreeing and far more defending said game. That'd make sense if it was something that had just been released and hadn't already been the subject of these threads.
Attention Escapist, we are now only discussing things that Joshalamode deems worthy of discussion. Ya'll got that, now get to work.

Another stellar example of illogical association there. How about we take it as it actually explains: "If this was a thread simply discussing it, that'd be groovy. As it stands, it's just another "I didn't like it despite the hype/popularity" thread".

This isn't a discussion. It's also not the first thread like this, especially of a game that is 3~ years old and has already had a sequel.

I can't wait to have another post skimmed through and then cleverly ignored and rehashed into something totally unrelated.

Then maybe next time you'll add something to the discussion, or at least leave something a little more than a pithy 'been there, done that, doesn't matter'.

I hope you've learned your lesson, young man.

Perhaps when the tide of identical threads that lack purpose due to repetition or inane subjects has been stemmed, I will add something. As it stands, it's just an opinionated post with no intent to discuss or really talk about/analyse the subject.

Same here, but I grew up on action games and fighters, so that might have greatly sullied my enjoyment of the combat engine (as I detest a combat system that's dictated almost entirely by numbers, and that goes for the KotOR games). I can't tell you how many times I was tripping over the fact that there was no roll/dodge, block, or even an attack button.
Why would an action gamer like you even want to play a game like DAO anyway ? Was it those damn misleading commercials that came out with the game ?
That and the few gameplay vids I saw shortly after its release that made the combat look far faster and more intuitive. I'd have thoroughly enjoyed it more if the combat was at least more like Jade Empire.

This just made me realize that I would kill for a game co-developed between BioWare and Platinum Games. If you've played Vanquish, can you imagine how Mass Effect would've been like if that was the case, or even way back in Jade Empire itself?

So yeah Playing DA:O some more. I am started it get into it a bit though the quest system could have been better. I am having a hard time knowing where to go. There ar no signs on the world map that show where to go for your current quest

Plus a game advertising it's DLC in game is a dick move on Biowares part.

Also...

Is Zevran gay? He kinda flirted with me XD

BioWare makes a different kind of RPG. Just because you like Bethesda games (which just pretty much focus on exploration) doesn't mean you'll like BioWare games. The joy in their games for me is (1) The story and characters and (2) experimenting with different abilities. I know a lot of people hate BioWare gameplay, but I love it. I just love toying around with the variables and making different builds.

Just whatever you do, do not go to the Circle Tower first. It's not hard, but it drags on and leads to one of the ugliest environments I've ever seen in a game. I still have to force myself to complete the Fade, even though I know it like the back of my hand and can do it fairly quickly. Why so much red and brown!?

Play for a while longer, maybe through one main story quest. Then quit if you still hate it. At level five, you barely have enough abilities to make it interesting.
couldn't agree more, word from word (the fade i could do fucking blindfolded more than likely...yet i still loathe it worse than the deep roads)

and, like said, the gameplay i absolutely love to play with multiple times through for the different combinations of abilities/styles. can't quite say why i love it so much, just that i do.

and like you said, bethesda love =/= bioware love, not in the slightest.

You aren't the only one who had trouble liking DAO. Pretty much the only thing I liked was the characters. Aside from that, the setting was bland, the combat was awful, and the story was filled with the kind of predictable cliches that just made it uninteresting for me.

But... my RPG life started with the likes of Baldur's Gate, so it is safe to say that I was already really spoiled in this regard. x_x

Every time I see a thread like this I feel a sudden urge to list every popular game I didn't like and then make a separate thread for each demanding an explanation from the world for daring to include people who have different taste in games. And then I calm down, and make a snarky post instead.

Seriously, though, is "people have different tastes" really not a good enough explanation?
To expand on that, why even have forums? All subjective debate can be simplified to "people have different tastes", so there's no objective merit in talking about your opinions on an open forum. And furthermore, the point of forums is discussion for what you find interesting, and discussing a video game on a board for video games clearly doesn't interest people, as the meager three pages of responses for this topic shows.

Super clever sarcasm aside, why don't you make posts about games you didn't like? Intelligent discussion of game design is on a downfall on these forums because too often an opportunity for subjective debate is met with "yeah well that's just like your opinion". I don't come here to RP, talk about introversion, relationships, or comment on news articles. Let's actually talk about how we feel about games.

Everyone has their own taste in games. If you don't like a game then that's that you don't like it, no point looking for the reason other people like it the hopes their views might change how you perceive the game because it's all a matter of taste.
