My big problem with nintendo isn't so much the console, although I will admit it is just fun as hell to rip on the whole arm flailing gameplay aspect. My big problem comes from the complete lack of any and all innovation of their gaming library. Every single generation they do nothing both rehash all the same games all over again. And I will acknowledge that Sony does the same thing with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, but nintendo does it with every single game, and not just those that are theirs, but with all those that they aquire like Sonic.
Exactly! Look at Zelda and Mario, for example. They haven't done anything new since mario 64 and ocarina...remember how 64 used 360 degree gameplay and had an additional water-gun weapon that completely changed how the game was played? And how Ocarina featured a pirate-ruled ocean and had link turn into a wolf, changing the combat and having another form required for some puzzels? It infuriates me that......wait, none of that happened?

Oh, then you must just be confusing "new characters" for "new ideas". A common mistake, that many others in this very topic has made.

While I'm specifically correcting you, though, Sony does not own Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, nor does Nintendo own Sonic. That's Square Enix and Sega.

Also, if you're playing the Wii by flailing your arms around, then you're either five years old, or doing it wrong. Every game I've played that uses motion controls takes nothing more than aiming or a flick of the wrist.

I don't hate Nintendo, but you will see me say from time to time that I sold my Wii back after it became boring.

My biggest problem is the amount of crap Nintendo allows to be published for their system. Pretty much the only good games for the Wii are first party. And Nintendo just doesn't put out enough games to satisfy my needs.

I consume at least two games a month, and that's in a dry spell. Nintendo just doesn't give me enough to play. I will admit, there are still some very good games being produced on the Wii. But a couple of titles a year is not enough to justify the $300 price tag I paid for the system and accessories.

Other than Metroid Other M coming out, I am not all that upset I don't have Nintendo's current console.

I hate Nintendo for a simple reason really.
While Sony and Microsoft make games I actually want to play, with better graphics and all, and are willing to sell consoles at a loss to achieve this, Nintendo instead targets the non-gamers with methods such as motion-controller.
I wouldn't have minded this, if it hadn't influenced Sony and microsoft. The damn motion controllers have been made more out of greed for money than to give gamers a better playing experience.
I like Nintendo's hand-held devices, but thats it. I hate its consoles, and I hate most of its games, most of which are just repeats anyway.

When the Wii came out, it went through a period of about 3 years where EVERY SINGLE GAME absolutely had to use the motion controls for something, no matter how awkward or out of place. This tended to ruin games that would have been okay and inspire developers to just keep making more collections of the same gimmicky minigames. It was probably during this time that most people who hate on the Wii formed their opinion, and I can't say I blame them. The same thing happened with the DS and the touch screen. For the first few years, all the games that came out forced you to use the touch screen and it always felt unecessary. They got over that though and started making normal games again, though there's still all the minigame collections. I'm pretty sure the same thing is starting to happen with the Wii. It doesn't make me feel any better about having had one collecting dust for the last 3 years, but I think we're entering the phase where we'll start to see more actual games.

Sega was a brilliant company. Its the exact opposite of Nintendo.

I love my DS just as much as I despise my Wii.

So, Nintendo kind of cancels out to a neutral zone for me.

Well I do because the Wiimote is horrible, 90% of the games are shovelwear, and there are only a few good titles(mario galaxy, zelda, metroid)

Nintendo isn't bad at all, I just don't like the Wii. I don't like the looks of the Move of Kinect either, its nothing against Nintendo. I'm not interested in most of the games that Nintendo has released on the Wii recently which causes me to dislike the Wii, but not Nintendo themselves.

I grew up playing on Nintendo consoles, they will always have a place in my heart. The Wii and motion control however, will not.

WAS?

You say that like they're dead. They're well out of the console wars, but they are still very active.

i play games for a couple of reasons.
point 1 being fun, for long times (2-6 hours plays) and it mustn't get repetitive.
point 2 blood and violence or "healthy competetion". yeah yeah, i know, but i added this, because combine it with story, and it works for me. gritty, bloody and "realistic" it's all fine combined with 3
oh sure, my favourite game is tf2, which is colourfull and bloddy, and kinda cartoonish, but it has humor, which brings me to
3 humor. these games can be childish, gritty, but Humor is an almost must in a game. without humor a lot of games would be less appealing, like tf2, portal, fallout. it would be only gritty and realistic. and blowing up enemies witha satisfing "KABOOOM hahaha" isn much funnier as just blowing them up
4 other. for other fun things

mostly the games i own combine my 3 points or sometimes 4,. wii games (in my opinion) have 1, and sometimes 2 of my points. but no Wiigame has 3. and definitely all 4
(+ i don't own a Wii, and not having something makes it less fun)
yay for fun!
this is my opinion to disliking the wii

*EDIT* please do not quote me. i know this is flawed in a lot of aspects, but this is how i choose to see it
also i dislike motion sensors in general. i prefer plain buttons

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I don't care what a game's graphical presentation looks like or who makes it. I try to give most things a fair shot (though that's hard at times). What I'm trying to say here is that if a game is fun I want to play it. I don't care that it's on the wii, I don't care if Mario is the main character - if it's a fun game you can count me in.

Yeah, darn Nintendo, requiring people to make games that used their controllers. And also, wasn't Smash Bros Brawl playable with the classic controller or a Gamecube controller?

Also, remember, back when the Wii was still the Revolution, the announcement RE dev kits? Nintendo Dev kits were costing almost a quarter of what was being charged for the 360 or the PS3, opening the door for lots of people to try various ideas. It worked, a lot of people tried.

As it has turned out, a lot of those attempts were crap. But that was to be expected.

I am really confused about all the "same game" grief, as well. Does EA get this kind of flak for each new iteration of Madden? What about Polyphony for Gran Turismo? Rock Star for Grand Theft Auto and it's various bastard children?

Actually, focus on Rockstar for a second. Talk about retreading ground. Ever since GTA III we have been roaming in 3d sandbox worlds, getting missions from letters on Maps, delivering various types of pizza through incrementally rising levels of pizza haters, and making snide pokes at popular culture.

Do we just forget that each work has been brilliant and fun to play because it is similar to a proven formula?

Nintendo is doing exactly the same thing. Using a proven formula, only reinventing it as new tech allows. Sure, it's the same nutshell each time, but as anyone who has played any RockStar game since GTA III can tell you, the nutshell description above doesn't even come close to encapsulating the experience of Red Dead Redemption, despite being technically accurate.

And here is the kicker... Nintendo is using not one, but THREE such formulas, (four if you include Pokemon) each getting released on a schedule that would be acceptable from any other developer.

I mean, dislike the games if you wish. I figured this subject would be a good way to get some exposure and get a feel for the board. It just seems that Nintendo gets nailed to the wall for things we give other companies passes on, and much as I love ZP, I suspect the long arm of Yahtzee is behind it.

Maybe he should continue to bring out the Irish-Accent for further reviews of the Flagship franchises, just so folks hear something other than, "Oh, Nintendo Rehash!"
