People hate on Nintendo because, unlike Nintendo, they've grown up.

As long as people keep making babies however, Nintendo will have a market to sell to. A market that, once they grow up, will become Microsoft and Sony's market.
Because nothing says "grown up" like playing the game equivalent of an Insane Clown Posse record...

Personally I love Nintendo. Without them the games industry wouldn't exist as it does today, and may not have even existed at all after the whole Atari mess. As for the Wii, its like any console that makes it big. There will be a truckload of awful games, but any serious gamer will overlook this and find the plentiful diamonds in the rough. After all we aren't going to kid ourselves that the majority of the PS2 library was AAA titles. Every successful console has a ton of shovelware. Its just more prominent with the Wii because its combined with motion controls. All that means is we get lots of titles full of shit minigames, rather than simply shit games like we did in the past.

Point is, there's plenty of quality games on the Wii, just like on 360 and PS3. Nintendo hate is generally people being sheep or people bitching about Nintendo using the same franchises, as though each iteration of these franchises gets worse. If you want to see how a franchise can be run into the ground, just look at Tomb Raider before its reboot. At least with a Nintendo product you know you are getting a quality title that has had time and effort put into it. People may ***** about reptitiveness, but they can't make a serious argument against quality either.

I don't hate Nintendo (but I do hate those that say that I hate them because Yahtzee and/or the mob rule says so).

I dislike them because their products aren't very appealing in my eyes. But Metroid is an exception (I adore the series, but I'm not gonna buy a Wii just for that particular series).

I don't hate Nintendo, but honestly, what would the third party market be like if there was only Nintendo?

I will, and it was none of the above.

Big Beach Sports 2
Tournament of Legends
7/13/10
The Bachelor: The Video Game
Chuck E. Cheese's Party Games
Ford Off-Road Racing

If we exclude crapware/shovelware:
Tournament of Legends
Arc Rise Fantasia
Guilty Party
Dispicable Me

However Metroid does make it in shortly after.

OT: I think most frustrations aimed at Nintendo are based soley on the Wii and the Wii alone. The use of their flagships Mario, Link, etc. is not only a stale strawman arguement but hypocritical as well. As stated in the first response, it is currently trendy to hate on the Nintendo.

My big problem with nintendo isn't so much the console, although I will admit it is just fun as hell to rip on the whole arm flailing gameplay aspect. My big problem comes from the complete lack of any and all innovation of their gaming library. Every single generation they do nothing both rehash all the same games all over again. And I will acknowledge that Sony does the same thing with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, but nintendo does it with every single game, and not just those that are theirs, but with all those that they aquire like Sonic.
That sums up my opinion nicely.

In retrospect, Nintendo is more of a casual games company, so if you like casual games, then youd be looking at Nintendo in a whole other light, and therefore it would be good.

If you cant wait for the next Mario for example.

In another fifty years, they'll all be singing a different song when titles like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Metroid are looked upon the way that Moby Dick and Tom Sawyer currently are in the literary sphere.
This guy has it right, here. We won't remember "Gritty Realistic Multiplayer Shooter 12: Special Operations" in a couple years' time, let alone fifty, but I can almost guarantee you we'll still be talking about Ocarina of Time then. So which is really the "hardcore" game?

Right now it's just "cool" to hate on Nintendo. People like to feel special by saying they don't like things that most people like. Personally, if a see a thread that accuses Nintendo of "Zelda/Mario/Metroid copypaste" or "rehashing old games," I just ignore it. It's clearly not a well-thought out post, it's just someone trying to be "edgy."

I like Nintendo even though I felt that the Wii was a disappointment. I also don't really care if all Nintendo does is remake the same games over and over again. I still love Zelda and Metroid and I'm probably gonna check out the new Kid Icarus too.

The thing I don't get is why it's probatable to even say boo about the PS3 or 360, but you can make entire flame topics about nintendo and the mods won't give a fuck. Biased hypocrisy much?
You know... this is a very good point. I see people all of the time describing the Wii's fanbase as being retards and two-year-olds, but I make one tiny allusion to the 360 "frat boy" stereotype and I'm on probation.

As shown by this thread, people bash on Nintendo because they like being hypocrites and act like they only want new things. Gamers dont want new as much as they say. Why do you think Sonic 4 is gonna be popular? (The one that makes Sonic like 1 2 and 3 were)

The reason is is that they abandoned hardcore gamers. At least Sega went down respectably, they went solely for the money.
Respectfully you say? Any Sonic game released outside of a Sega made system proves that wrong. And I'm not dissing on Sonic. I had some good times with Sonic in the day. But, Sega has taken the Blue Rad Hedgehog from our childhoods and made him into a 2 dollar whore. And as Stan Smith said: "The Dollar is weak right now, so that's an insult." Sega has publicly acknowledged that Sonic games now suck and that they won't do shit to make them better because they will sell no matter what. And yes, there are other Sega games out there, and I've played them, but none of them so far has made me regain respect for Sega. Respectfully? No sir, I disagree.
For the billionth time, I meant the Dreamcast!
About the Dreamcast. Yes, it was a good system it was innovative, it was godly. The N64 gets credit for creating the first "modern" controller. If I remember correctly, the Dreamcast was out first and it was closer to the the PS1's controller with analogue sticks which. But, the Dreamcast died, because most people just stopped caring about it. They competed directly against everyone else in ways they couldn't win. 3rd party developers made crappy games for it, and the only good games they had were by a couple of 3rd parties and Sega. But, the Dreamcasts were too expensive to make, so each one Sega made it lost money, and didn't gain that revenue back anywhere else. Nintendo has more else the same problem. Yet, they realized that they can't compete like Sony and Microsoft, so they don't. They come up with new innovative ideas that make them money. But you know what? This argument would only work if this is Nintendo's final console. Which seems unlikely. People thought the N64 was going to be the last. It wasn't. They thought Nintendo was going to be bought out by Microsoft when the GC came out. Rare was but not good ol' Nintendo. People were really saying that gaming is a 2 console market. Well, I don't hear all that anymore. Nintendo is going to come out with a new system in a few years, it will probably have that whole motion control stuff in it, but it will be a side feature. The thing is Nintendo has not gone down in flames. Each system tries something new. You might ask what N64 did, how about 3D enviroments, Super Mario 64 was the first 3D Platformer, and most N64 games had 3D enviroments. Gamecube, well, they tried a new controller, Kicked ass in DVD loading times (there were none) and Created the first reliable Wireless controller (Wavebird), made a bunch of strange gadgets (Microphone for Hey, You! Pikachu) and made it possible to hook up a GBA to the GC. All in all nothing too memorable on it's own, I must admit. But, then there is the Wii. Which turned the gaming world on it's ear so hard that people straight up forgot that it won't be a PS3. Seriously, it shames me but I know some people that acted like the Wii was going to be a cheap form of the PS3. Also there are little things. The controller has a speaker, not much, but it's kind of cool when you here a gun reload by your hands when you reload it in the game. I'm surprised the other 2 haven't stolen that yet. And when they come out with a new system I am really curious what new gimmick they're going to try. You might say the Wii doesn't push the envelope, but then why is Microsoft and Sony trying to copy it? Hell, those two might even do a better job. But, by the time they corner the motion control market Nintendo will make a new market to live in on their own. And, if you bring up casual gaming, the rest of us can bring up Sega's games. Since, except for Wii sports and "Mama" series (she gardens now too.) I can't think of a single "casual game" that was actually developed by Nintendo and not a 3rd party.

I know what you mean. But, catering to the younger market has nothing to do with Nintendo growing up. I think your point is that "we" hate Nintendo because while we were growing up we were growing out of their target demographic. Which you could be quite, right. Nintendo has always been a "family" company when it came to gaming. Their the reasons that it's so hard to find pornographic games on consoles... except for in Japan... but when Nintendo had a Iron fist on the gaming market they pretty much shot down any adult theme content. Rock Star would never have succeeded with GTA if they tried when Nintendo was playing protective Big Brother. So, you sir, have a very valid point.

Sometimes people forget who brought 3D movement to home consoles, who revived the gaming industry in North America right after the Atari Crash then proceeded to inject it full of steroids. Microsoft and Sony butted in, trying to get a cut of the profits. Microsoft is just being a greedy bastard right now.

The Wii may not be as powerful as other consoles, but can Sony or Microsoft say they invented motion controls IN THE LATE 1980's? [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Glove]

I just hate motion controls....That's really it.

Nintendo can make fucking fabulous games and I loved Wind Waker and Twilight Princess...,but I hate motion controls.
If the Wii had actual GOOD controls I'd be all over it...,but it has motion controls...wich I hate.

And now Sony and Microsoft are rummaging through their left-overs like a bunch of fucking lemmings.

ps. Kirby Epic Yarn looks pretty freaking sweet though.
