If Notch introduces a mob that can destroy your blocks and break through walls (and let's face it, he's going to sooner or later) it will instantly become the most hated and feared mob in the game.

It will also be awesome.
Let's face it, it'll be more hated than anything else. In a game about having your own private world and building whatever you want a critter that rearranges your environment and breaks your stuff is about as welcome as somebody who stomps on sandcastles is at the beach.
Then again, Creepers are very much both loved and hated. I do think that they should be toggleable though, if they do take apart buildings.

So it's apparently called the Enderman [http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Enderman]. Keep an eye on this Minepedia page...

In other news, I hate you, Notch.

Captcha: watch out
Damn right.

Yeah but the creeper only gets you if you make a mistake (or it blindsides you by dropping off a tree in a perfectly lit area, don't think I'll ever forgive you for that, creeper). I think that's part of it's "charm". As it is it doesn't blow up your walls to get to you or destroy part of your world just because it can. You can keep it from touching you and keep it from detonating. We'll have to see just what this thing can do though. If it could take apart buildings and showed up on the first night most players would be dead by the end of night one, unprepared for the flood of creepers, zombies and spiders that inundated whatever primitive shelter they could make by that point.

Enderman: [http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Enderman]Thats a nice house you have there...

*Enderman breaks a block and runs away*

Random player: NOTCH DAMMIT! THEY DID IT AGAIN...
Would sound kind of funny, as oppose to a mob that traumatizes you... more so than Creepers, that is.

He walked through his nice, cobblestone house, storing his mining gear and most recent stash of diamonds, when Steve caught something out of the corner of his eye. Expecting a spider to have fallen off the unlit roof of his house, he turned towards the large glass window that looked out over the cliff. Standing there on the single block ledge, looking back, was this long limbed, unnaturally skinny, black /thing/. He jumped two blocks in to the air, barely keeping a yelp of fear from spilling out of his mouth. For a moment, he stared at it, and it stared right back, as if it were sizing him up.

Then it started taking down the window.
Good thing I read this post during the daytime with the lights on. O___O

Cool, thanks for sharing that. I didn't think to check reddit for a name (since I don't use it).

There has to be a limit to what something like this can do or else it will probably be imba and lead to many staying on peaceful.

WoW... Yes. Absolutely!

Granted, I wont be turning off peaceful mode because I am building something massive, but I certainly will consider now of making a second world just for pure difficulty purposes.

LOVE IT!

I've got a crazy idea: what if these guys populate the npc villages? Good god that would be creepy. Where are those plans for the TNT catapult...
Or better yet: crashed UFO anybody? They kinda look like those typical "grey" aliens, don't they?

Also, multiple choice answer instead of captcha? I'm sorry, I have no idea who or what the fuck bonobos is or does, and I'm in no hurry to find out.

As if nights weren't dangerous enough. You can barely see the damn things and then they're right behind you, or they've removed a block or two... And a minute or so later your wall on the surface is gone and they're inside. Moving about silently. And they know where you are all the time.

I had been thinking of building a giant Slenderman statue to replace the giant Creeper I demolished, didn't know what to do for his face. Maybe this'll help me out a bit...

Now, you see, every problem is just a solution waiting to happen;

Problem 1: Endermen want to steal my blocks
Problem 2: Someone's dug a series of pits around my camp and filled them with burning Netherrack

Problem Solved!

(Works against ogres, I figure it'll work against these buggers, Netherrack is way better than lava for this sort of thing, it's cheaper and safer!)
