Win. Pure win. I think I'll watch that movie right now.
What movie is that?

On topic, the only one I know of is Gatsu from Berserk but you have already mentioned that so I'll just find something else quick.

There you go, some quick stuff from deviant art.

Everybody should see this movie at least once in their life.

The large coffin that doubles as a coffin, a rocket it launcher, a large bludgeoning device, a gatling gun, and a stylish piece of neck ware. Gungrave.......

There's your problem, you're trying to apply real-world physics to a universe where Soul Reapers are commonplace. Oh, and she's the vice-captain (that is, second in command) of the division where ascending in the ranks mean that you would have to beat the one above you.

The Prince's sword from Prince of Persia. It doesn't seem really heavy, but definitely too long and not realistic... or so I thought, until I saw a Real hungarian hussar saber. That thing is just HUGE. (sry no pics 4 u)

Oh goodness, you reminded me. :3

Wolfwoods' holy weapon. :) Long end is a machine gun, opposite short end is an RPG launcher. The middle two remaining ends house handguns (six of them, I think?). The center of it all is a skull shaped grip trigger. Absurd as this weapon is, I do loves me some Wolfwood. :3

Wasn't the final form of that thing throwing galaxies around as frisbees?

Both Cloud and sephiroth's sword from FF VII

Woah...
I think Zabuza's (sp?) Guillotine sword is bigger (at least when you first see him. Then it shrinks to be about his height after that) I mean, when you first see him w/ it, it's as long as the room is wide.

(sorry for the crap pic, it's the best I can find at the moment)

I'm a novice comic book artist, and I'll admit; there are times where I've abused the oversized whachamacallits. There are times where, as an artist, you want to elicit a certain feeling of power, and ability. An oversized blade gives a sense of ability and power. Shoulders are for power, so enhanced shoulders give a feeling of confidence and power. It can and does go on, but the oversized weapons in art has a reason; to elicit an emotional response. :)

There are, however, some scenarios where it's very appropriate, and works well.

(not my art, unfortunately.)
Oh Pyramid Head. Is it that time again?

I hold a special place in my heart for Vera, Jayne Cobb's weapon in Firefly. When you consider that the average armaments featured on the show usually consist of pistols, shotguns and lever-action rifles, Vera is definetley overkill.

If by "that time again," you mean, site instances where huge weapons were used well in a setting, then, yes. :) Yes, it is that time again.

I have a special kind of love for a man that tried to trade his most favorate gun for a woman that makes free soup. ;) But yes, Vera is overkill. Somehow though, most fitting in Mr Cobbs hands. :D

And the thing is, despite this being a Japanese game, his head is to scale. Yeah, that's some stupidly big armor.
