Nuclear war: could it be soon?

With all of the news about iran and israel, do you think a nuclear war is coming soon?

Don't believe so. I'd like to think there is a modicum of sense in the leaders of said country, enough to understand that using Nukes will normally equal everyone losing.

the concept of no win situation should deal with it, during the cold war the risk of a total nuclear war was much more probable that this, yet it didn't happen.

I don't trust Israel. As a nation, they seem pretty dickish. Then again, I don't trust Iran much either. Neither India, Pakisatan, any of the other nations that have nukes. Especially not the USA; they put a fucking fundamentalist in charge of the country. If he's a good fundie, he's supposed to be longing for the end of the world. Not a guy I'd trust with weapons of mass destruction.

I don't think nuclear war will happen any time soon, though. Just quite a lot of regular war.

No. Nuclear war will never happen in our lifetimes.

Nukes are passe at this point. They're old technology. Conventional weapons are actually better at killing now, and also leave less damage to the surrounds. Wars are always about control of territory, but who wants territory that has been poisoned? That's why no-one's going to be setting off a nuke anytime soon.

In my opinion, I highly doubt that a state attack will occur on another state as a whole. Nukes fuck it up for everyone and it almost guarantees that the rest of the world will be pissed at you. Is Kim Jong Il crazy enough? Maybe, but he doesn't have the missiles yet. And the President of Iraq is constrained by the (hopefully) more balanced Supreme Leader.


With those two big "maybes" the main fear is terrorist organizations getting nuclear tech. I'm not worried about government use.

Not a joke. George Bush was president for what, 8 years? Fundamentalist Christians are pretty much just sitting around and staring at the clock, waiting for the Rapture so they can all go to heaven and watch the sinners burn. Giving a man who is keen for the end of the world the power to actually end the world is a bad move, in my opinion.
