Nudity in Games

Just a thought I had at work in regards to The Witcher in regards to nudity -

Are many gamers phased by nudity whether it be male or female?
I find, as a female gamer, seeing a woman nude in a computer game, or even a film for that matter, does not phase me in the least. It's sort of become normal.

Although you do not see male nudity in hardly any games or films. Would male nudity phase gamers and put them off continuing to play or even buy?

It's unfortunate that there isn't more equal-opportunity nudity. We're not quite out of that mindset, development-wise, that (omg) girls play games too.

I'm all for it, so long as it's done tastefully. Having tits literally shoved in my screen is about as unappealing as having a character wipe his dick on the camera.
Never seen this happen in a game, but y'know, hyperbole.

The novelty's definitely worn off. I'm perfectly happy to see it when it's there, but it's not something that I care that much about anymore.

Similarly, male nudity would be a novelty for a while, and then that novelty would wear off and it'd be no big deal again. Certainly wouldn't be put off by it.

If it suits the purpose of the scene, and it's done tastefully, I see no reason to oppose it. As it is nudity doesn't really bother me, so long as it's no shoved in my face, as it were.

There is male nudity in Amnesia: The Dark Descent, if you guys remember.

Like, full-on frontal corpse dick nudity. I didn't react to it any differently than tits showing up on my screen.

If nudity or sex scenes in a game further the plot or create a deeper immersion i'm all for it, simple really. I would have no issues seeing a dude naked in a game, doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I couldn't really care less about any kind of nudity in games. Well, ok, the only care I care about is over-the-top nudity when it isn't called for. Yes boobs are nice, but do I really need to see every single pair in the game when it isn't even remotely linked to the game-play/plot/etc? Nope. Same way I don't need to see every guy topless, or either without any clothes.

So, yeah, male or female, couldn't care less.

Hehe to be honest after playing rugby for 6 years of my life showering after a game with aload of other naked blokes doesn't bother me xD so full frontal male nudity in games doesn't phase me at all.

Kinda weird after having a punch up with a man not 30 minutes ago standing next to him showering and laughing about it. Rugby is an odd game indeed.

I'm not phased by nudity in the least. I just... don't care. If game developers want to include nudity in their games, it should be their prerogative, and I guess if people get in a tizzy they can have a censorship option, kinda like some games have blood on/off now. I just hope that it would be done tastefully.

I don't mind nudity (male or female) if:

1) It's in a game marketed at teenagers or adults
2) It serves a purpose related to the story or aesthetics of the game, and isn't there just for the sake of it.

Though I must admit I've never seen any nudity in a videogame other than the strippers' tits in the original Duke Nukem 3D, so I don't know if there's really much female nudity in games. Then again I'm not a hardcore gamer (i.e: I don't play a lot of games, mostly because of monetary reasons).

Though I think games in general should avoid nudity unless absolutely necessary.

This is kind of a funny topic to me actually. The first time I played Mass Effect I didn't choose any of the romance options, but this time I hooked up with Liara. I remember that seemed to be the subject of a lot of... um.. attention, before the game got released.

So softcore space porn ensues, and I realized something - there is no way for me to get turned on by a naked video game character. All I could think of was how low the poly count on Liaras' ass was.

Point is that I don't even get affected by nude WOMEN in games. The only instance of male nudity I can think of were those parts in Amnesia, and the effect was similar. Though I'll admit, in terms of story, coming across a random naked male was a little unsettling.

Think about the way it works in film - if you see a naked woman, it's probably going to be someone attractive, and that'll be the point of the scene. If it's a guy, it'll be either for horror purposes (I guess because producers assume the majority of the audience is male, and we're psychologically tuned to feel more vulnerable when we see a naked man), or it'll be Will Ferrell and it's meant to be funny. I think video games are generally designed with many of the same assumptions films make about their audience.

Call me crazy if you like, but I think it happens the opposite:

When we see male nudity we don't react.
However when we see female nudity, it become a new subject to rage or say how "discusting we are with that".......

I see so many times this and I saw only reaction for female nudity, not for male.
Reason? I don't really know.....

Nudity doesn't bother me if it's done tastefully.
If it's just shoved in your face it kind of makes me laugh because it's usually supposed to appeal to dudes and I'm like `You're wasting your time, game`. It makes me wish there was a box I could tick `No titties in face please` at the start of the game.
Fuck, lets make that happen. That way everybody's happy.

Haven't seen too much male nudity in games, 'cept a hairy bum or two.

Funny thing, from what I hear, one of the first things people tend to do in Saints Row 2 and 3 is run around naked (regardless of gender).

Sure there's pixelated censor bars, that's part of the joke, but still.

Personally, I have no issues with male or female nudity if its done at least somewhat tastefully. I actually have more of an issue with gratuitous "boob physic's" or every female character being near nude for the sake for being near nude.

Frankly, (again imo) if there more nudity in games and it was done tastefully, it could actually lend itself to a story vs just being a "eye candy" thing.
