Well, considering the Crab RPG FeNinja and I were working on dropped off the cliff of not-enough-spare-time, I would be happy to help in whatever way I can. I learned my way around RPG maker during that brief project.

Well, you could do like Super Columbine Massacre RPG, pick a controversial historical event, and recreate it using RPG Maker. Maybe play as someone trying to escape New Orleans after Katrina and you have to fight off scavengers and stuff.

I mean, I'll play it if you do.

If you make an enemy in the game that's a lion called "Jumplion", you will make my day.

Or, have an NPC named "Jumplion" give you a useless stick that actually is one of the more powerful weapons in the game.

If you want to keep just us amused, then have a lot of Escapist in-jokes, include a lot of Escapist members in it as Npcs, and generally make it Escapist themed. If you don't mind general obscurity that is. If you want is to open to a wider audience, then try to keep what I mentioned above to a minimum.

Also, if you include Escapist members as NPCs, you couldn't have a terribly undecided NPC in their carrying The Sword of True Neutrality[sup]TM[/sup] in there could you?

Hell, put UltraJoe as a secret unlockable party member.

He's all you'll ever need.

Ooh! I suggest, nay, demand The Dominator [http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vt60EdeSuWg] as the best weapon in the game.

I was thinking of a pathetic stick that most people would toss away or sell, you know to get away from the whole "SUPAH AWESOME POWREFLU AWESOME WEAPUN" stereotype, but hey it's up to Nuke Lassic.

Wait, better idea: Have The Dominator as the starting weapon, then make the weapons steadily less impressive from there. The rule would really be 'The less impressive, the more powerful'.

Also, have The Banhammer in there somwhere. Anywhere.

Oh! And the Banhammer can be upgraded into the "Permaban-Sword"! It has the exact same stats as the Banhammer, but it's a sword this time!

I had this idea for an adventure game that was basically a twisted version of Groundhog Day. I had the script written for it and all.

But the project was a huge undertaking and I quit right about when I got the engine done (C + SDL magic, portable too). Maybe I should get back to it.

At the moment I have no serious ideas, but as for a silly one:

The game should feature Pie as an epic item which does something amazing. Maybe a legendary weapon for the main character? Or one of the supporting characters if there is one. Or perhaps an ability called Pie Throw, which deals immense damage.

Basically, incorporate pie into the game would be the main thing to take away from this post.

Perhaps a subversion of cliches? A deconstructor fleet, so to speak.

Instead of the hero being motivated by a destroyed hometown, he's kicked out of town for attempting himself to destroy it.

Instead of the hero being a young boy trying to prove himself, he's a middle-aged, mildly spazy arsonist.

Make an RPG where you are the evil bastard out to destroy the world. You face off with the good guy party in the boss fights, being 'foiled' (instead of outright destroyed) with each victory. Eventually, you simply flatten the planet with your giant meteor.

For extra party members, you have to corrupt the wannabes who would join the good guys party by getting there five minutes before and offering them a 5% increase in pay.

You could subvert sooooo many tropes by being on the other side of things.

I like the Escapist idea, I can totally be the dumbfounded guard who can't believe he dropped the key to the super-mega-important door down the well.

Oh, and no matter what you do, break the fourth wall. Video games making fun of the fact that it's a video game that succumbs to the tropes of it's genre is always hilarious.

yes break the 4th wall, like have a character with an escapists name and have a little scene where you overhear him/her say, "I cant believe nuke actually let me in the game!"

I'm unsure what VX is but so far simple ol' RPGmaker 2000 is the best of the buch. XP is nice and glossy but not as easy to manipulate, though all the built in stuff is better. 2000 is also good because there's a shit ton of support out there for it.

I'd think you'd be better off focusing on the gameplay first, the ridiculously absurd/serious plot can come later. If the game is poop, the plot won't really matter much, will it >_>

Something with hardcore puzzle elements (Lufia II) would be nice...
