You forgot one thing PhysX will not be relevant anymore due to this console generation all having AMD GPU. Why would developer go through the trouble of integrating physX on the PC version of their game, when that solution will be unable to work on their console version. Game developer will either go with a non-proprietary hardware physic solution or an AMD solution this time around.
Except that PsysX is superrior to what AMD came up with. or your implyign that develoeprs are moeny grubbing freed driven peopel who do not care aboutr quality? everyone act surprised now please.
Most physX element I saw to this day sucked or were gimmicky, one of the few game I can think of that used it well is Mafia II.
And Batman (both of them)... and Mirror's Edge... and Cryostasis... etc.

OT: I don't want jumps in realism. I think that what Cliffy B said was true, and thus, I want effort put into making current effects less expensive.

On my way to work this morning, I got to thinking: What made HK-74 such a memorable character? Was it the polygon count? The textures? Perhaps the animation?

No, it was the writing. KOTOR was a well-written game. The storyline was compelling. The gameplay was enjoyable. And the dialogue was excellent. Especially HK-47's dialogue.

Far too much emphasis is being put on GPU capabilities. I mean, sure, graphics are nice, but I've gotten more enjoyment out of low-budget, 2D-graphics indie games this past year than any AAA big-budget title.
Speaking of great writing, I just found my old discs for No One Lives Forever and I love it, perhaps bit too much. I can run it on max graphics now, makes me feel like a big man. By the way people, if you think you don't have a "gaming PC", slap an old XP disc in there and see if it runs. Totally worth it.

Sadly, NOLF is not on Steam, GOG, or anywhere else that I can think of.

"It's nothing but goodness for the PC," Tamasi explains, "The PC will keep growing, but the consoles will give us that next bump." He tells us that "Developers can now build really awesome content that can then scale to the PC," and that "To [Nvidia], the consoles are great because they catch up from a features perspective."
Apart from the fact that Microsoft will be pushing game development towards Windows 8 exclusivity in order to sell their latest [inferior] OS.

Just remember to not expect a proportional increase in fidelity, as hardware improves developers tend to get lazy, they only seem to fully optimise as they come against hardware constraints.

Everyone has always known this. It's old news that old consoles hold back PC games with console focused developers.

Anyway, it's not the graphics I'm excited for. Marginally shinier graphics are honestly pretty boring. I'm more interested in the huge amount of general RAM the new systems have. PC games have been too slow to move away from 32 bit and unlike boring graphical upgrades, massive RAM allows for fundamentally different and vastly grander games.

I don' really think that chart is quite fair, seeing as I could buy a PS4 and an Xbone for around the price of a single titian, and that's not even mentioning the monster rig/several monitors you would need to actually get anything out of a titan. Granted I bet more reasonably priced GPUs are still more powerful than consoles, but using the titan as a comparison point seems silly

I don't see how it's unfair. It's not comparing prices, it's comparing raw computational power. If I was comparing the engine power of various cars, I wouldn't leave the Ferrari off the list because it cost five times as much as a honda civic.
