Higher taxes equal better public services and better gun control means that people like you who perhaps might want to murder somebody or let every criminal murder people with guns. Murder rate in the US is way higher than pretty much everywhere that has good gun control. You think trying to lower murder rate is a bad thing?

People who like lower taxes are evidently those who just want it easy for the well of while letting the poor starve to death and not get a decent education etc. They are in general selfish pigs too, not just the people wo get handouts.

But some of us like to take care of our own lives rather then have a paternalistic government to take care of us from cradle to grave. People who are for lower taxes are generally for keeping more of what they make, and realize that wealth trickles down(generally)
And here in america no poor starve to death(there is Foodstamps WIC government housing, education is free, healthcare is almost free for many(medicare, tenncare,etc) I mean my god how much more can you ask for. In this country you are given every opportunity to make something of yourself. Why do we need even more government services (and higher taxes on me) just because people are to stupid or lazy to fend for themselves.

Regarding the bolding, please show me proof that this has worked... ever. It seems to me that since the 80s, with the combination of economic deregulation and other Reaganomic policies, the top 1% now controls the vast majority of American wealth. That doesn't seem like anything's trickling down.

Then again, in wacky conservative world, up IS down, isn't it? Just like freedom is torture, war is peace, domestic disasters means effective presidential leadership... etc. etc. etc.

Because some of those services include schools. Which I don't know about you, but last year, in my county alone we had three close. Due to lack of funds.

Were they good schools? Maybe some of the money went to training teachers and improving the other school systems. Maybe some of the saved money turned some schools into learning academy's instead of 7-hour long day care centers. As many of my teachers put it "Quality, not quantity".

Higher taxes? Easy fix, tell your idiotic company to stop outsourcing. Obama isn't raising taxes on corporations, he's ending tax cuts for those that outsource. Do what's right and your tax cut remains intact.

Anti-gun president? As far as I know he's not anti-gun, just for some gun control That's a good thing, assault weapons have no place in the hands of private citizens, PERIOD

Bill of negative rights? Sounds like you're just making up stupid shit now, Obama has never said anything to indicate that he opposes anything in the Bill of Rights.

Regulation of the free market? Again, a good idea. Allowing corporations to do whatever they want without anyone keeping an eye on them leaves you wide open for bullshit like Enron.

Spreading the wealth around? Again, there's no issue with this. It's our duty as responsible citizens to care for all members of our nation, that includes the indigent and disadvantaged.

For just one example, Greenspan basically admitted he screwed up and that economic deregulation directly lead us into the situation we're currently in.

All government implies the loss of freedom.
From property rights to the police, all of this means we lose freedoms. If freedom was so invaluable that it wasn't worth trading there would be no laws against murder, and no property rights for which to get rich on in the first place.
The question isn't do we lose freedom because the answer to that is always going to be yes. The question is whether or not the trade in freedom is worth it. The freedom of the top 1% to become ridiculously wealthy in exchange for the bottom 60% being better of is most definitely worth it. Especially when one considers said top 1%s wealth was bought by taking away the freedom of said bottom 60%.

I don't know much about the two candidates or their policies (American parties tend to be less clear cut than English ones. At least in name) but I think no matter who won it would be a big step forward for the states. Either the first black president or the first female V.P, either way that's a monumental step and it makes a big statement to other nations who, sometimes unfairly, label Americans as backwards, racist, pricks.

The poor and homeless starve to death more than you'd think. Homeless shelters are underfunded and soup kitchens/food pantries have a great deal of trouble keeping shelves stocked. I'm not going to really touch on food stamps, they do work in some cases. But, you mention government housing, yet fail to acknowledge how government housing projects are some of the most dangerous places in America to live and have a much higher per capita murder rate than the cities they are located in.

Education is free? Hardly. You, I, and every other working citizen pays a school tax, yet that tax is often misappropriated and used to fund wars. Public education in America is underfunded, in some cases outdated, and in general just pathetic.

Free healthcare? I can't believe you even went there, there's no such thing as free healthcare in America. Sure, you can sometimes get a deeply reduced rate for some things, but if it's not an immediate threat to your life you're shit out of luck if you can't afford it. And, when you can get any kind of assistance with healthcare you're sent to an underfunded and overworked outreach that is staffed by under-qualified health care workers.

Plus if you really cared about this issue how often do you strictly look for things that are made in america? How often do you by a more expensive product just because it's made in america. I hear people complain when the job goes overseas but I don't hear them complain when their goods cost X amount cheaper.

Any choice FOR government is not really a choice... but between the guy who picked a VP who thinks (er... "believes"... sorry... "thinks" would require thought) the world's only 6000 years old and the guy who picked the VP with decades of congressional experience... I voted for the latter.

I buy American as much as I possibly can. I do check labels on products and have on many occasions spent a few bucks more to pick up a product with that little flag that says "MADE IN USA" on it. Hell, I even go out of my way to try my best to avoid using services from companies that outsource their call-centers for customer/tech support overseas.

To me, it's worth the extra effort and a few extra bucks here and there to support the workers of my own country rather than just mindlessly buy the cheapest shit available and not care where it was made.

California is pretty disappointing at the moment: with 29% of precints reporting [http://vote.sos.ca.gov/Returns/props/59.htm], propositions 2, 8, and 9 are all passing at the moment. Together those indicate that Californians would rather enact feel-good measures (crazy feel-good measures that will do a lot of economic and social damage to California) than actual progressive social policy.

I've also heard, tentatively, that Bachmann got reelected. Again, not a good show for the US.
