Can't remember who said it, but I heard someone on TV saying 'sure, Obama isn't "black", he's mixed race, but do you think the old lynch mobs took that into account?'

'Hey, but I'm not black!'
'Ohh sorry, I see now, you're mixed race... Bob, let him down and give him a kick in the balls for being mixed race, and lets go find some black people.'

I'm pretty sure mixed race was quite enough to affect how SOME black and SOME white people voted.

Same thing with Hilary and Sarah, SOME men and SOME women will auto vote just based on whether the canditate owns testicles. (there's some speculation on Palin to be had imo, she's scary.)

I saw a lovely shot of McCain as a black man and Obama as a white man, and they both looked seriously suspect, Obama in particular looked like a shifty insurance salesman.
I like to think i have a little more sanity and rationality than a mob (just a little?)
And i wasn't trying to make a point that he's half-black go easier on him or vice-versa or anything like that
I'm just saying people are wrong when they call him black
My point was and still is far more superficial than anything serious i just think he should be billed as "The First Mixed Race President" rather than "The First Black President" as that's what he is

mccain didnt lose because he was bush. he lost because he was mccain
he always said how he was moderate, and he was before he ran for president, and then he goes and picks sara palin who is so far right. the old mccain wouldve picked somebody like joe liberman
Yes it is because he was too moderate that many true conservatives didn't vote. Also in reference to Obama and change, 50 years ago the Cubans wanted change look what they got.
are you really comparing castro to obama? and mccain sure did appeal to all the "true" conservative. those were the only people who voted for him. i said if he was more like himself, moderate, he would have faired better. and are you really comparing castro to obama?

and out of all the democratic nominees, id say gore and kerry werent too strong. i never had a problem with clinton, i thought he was a good president but was overshadowed with the monica L. affair, which was seriously no ones damned business
What are you talking about? Ask any ultra conservative and if they did vote for McCain they would tell you he was not their best choice. Most of the Republicans int the primary were more conservative that McCain in fact the only one I can think of that was less Conservative was Guilliani. I am not comparing Obama to Castro per sey just making the point that just because he promises change does not meann it will necessarily be good change.

Oh Man there was way too much focus on race ad gender this election. Oh and Alan Keyes is twice as black as Obama but he never used his blackness as a draw like Obama did.

Sure Obama may not be 'fully black' but I'm pretty sure if a good black candidate comes up for election 4 or 8 years down the line (so long as Obama doesn't stuff it up horribly and give the racists a reason to pin it all on the black guy), I think he'll have an easier time being accepted than he would have back in 2004.

I do actually agree with Fruhstuck in that it's a shame it was such a big deal him being 'black' when he's mixed race tho. It all seems ridiculous to me. Maybe if he'd been a woman too he'd have walked to victory more easily.

if youve been alive for more than 3 and a half min then you realized every politician always promises change. its nothing new
Yes true all politicians promise change but Obama had change as his slogan (along with yes we can which he stole from Cesar Chavez). So it was because he promised change and because he was "Black" that many people voted for him.

I'm sure that is true to some extent but not nearly to the extent that Obama was

yes but, the same could be said that many of mccain supporters voted for him because he wasnt black and he was white
