And yes--I blame the party more that's always talking about Federalism and States Rights for turning their backs on that doctrine right when it actually could have done some good if they were in power when the States were stopped by the Federal government, just like I'll blame Democrats more if there's a massive failure in the social safety net and people starve or slip into poverty.
Fair enough. Actually, beyond the Obama hype train I think that the Republicans basically handed this thing over to the Democrats since they did abandoned their Federalist platform years ago. They are hemorraging non conservatives to the Libertarian party and maybe that's a good thing, because personally I think the oxymoronic Republican Party should just die.

I bet the next UK election doesn't get this much press coverage worldwide
That's because UK elections don't have presidents (a single big election), come at random times, and are fairly predictable as to who is going to win.
Touche. That is all

We my fellow humans are living through real history. This day of November 4th 2008 will be remember for centuries in the history books as a day that American society changed for the better in so many ways in is almost beyond comprehension. We are living in a truly amazing time. This will be studies by children in books in class rooms around the world. The first non-White man has been elected President. We have changed, we have changed forever!
Yet, change doesn't necessarily mean it's for the better. Yes, we've made history, in a small way, but as for his presidency, you're assuming quite a lot. You act as though he's already fixed all of our problems. Frankly, most of his promises and goals are completely unrealistic and virtually unattainable. It's true that this election will be in the history books for years and years to come, but it remains to be seen if his term in office will be written into history because he brought us into some kind of new "golden age" of prosperity, or he just drove us further into the hole we've dug for ourselves.

It'd be funny if, in 50 years time, this presidency is quoted as being the reason why legislature passed in 2013 banned any African American as running for President.

GET IT, CAUSE HE SUCKED SO BADLY AT IT THEY THOUGHT "NO WAY CAN A BLACK GUY EVER AGIAN FUCK US UP THIS BAD!" GET IT!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!
Um does anyone feel like asking for it to get bumped to a week long ban?

I can't believe Iwas banned for this post. It's obviously a joke. I also can't believe the other people on here got so offended by it. now as my ban is up and i have right to reply, let me state that I think Obama is the best thing to ever happen to the united states, and I hope that it's the heralding of a new golden age on planet earth. Not a joke, it's time for a change, and change comes from the top.

There's no hype train needed to get to A Place Called Hope
LOL

Give me a break.
How about I give you another lesson in how the government works before you go off yammering about things you haven't a clue about ;-D
Are you serious? I'm not here arguing about Bill Ayers or that Obama is a terrorist so please don't paint me as some bible belt troglodyte who is naive about the government. You are the one who is rating the repbulican president against federalist standards that you don't even believe in all just to avoid placing any culpability on the Democratic party. Then you go frolicking about with nonsensical motivational rhetoric about hope and dellude yourself into believing your are the purveyor of objectivity.

You have done well in explaining what Bush could have done if he believed in regulation, and if he were a libritarian... which is a bizarre oxymoron of expactations but you still don't account for the initial cause. There's no need to go round and round though, you are adiment where you want blame placed and you don't care about the degree of cuplability or responsibility of the people you wish to blame. Your position is clear... have a fun in a place called hope. (who actually talks like that..)

Am i the only person bothered that Obama gets called "The First Black President"
He's not black
Certainly he's the blackest president so far
But he's not black. he's half black and half white. his father's Barrack Obama Sr. and his mother is Ann Dunham; with the former being black and the latter being white (if there's a more PC way of saying that then please educate me)
Maybe it's just the OCD talking but he's being called something he's not and i don't like it

Can't remember who said it, but I heard someone on TV saying 'sure, Obama isn't "black", he's mixed race, but do you think the old lynch mobs took that into account?'

'Hey, but I'm not black!'
'Ohh sorry, I see now, you're mixed race... Bob, let him down and give him a kick in the balls for being mixed race, and lets go find some black people.'

I'm pretty sure mixed race was quite enough to affect how SOME black and SOME white people voted.

Same thing with Hilary and Sarah, SOME men and SOME women will auto vote just based on whether the canditate owns testicles. (there's some speculation on Palin to be had imo, she's scary.)

I saw a lovely shot of McCain as a black man and Obama as a white man, and they both looked seriously suspect, Obama in particular looked like a shifty insurance salesman.

What? What the hell kind of nonsense are you talking about "if he were a libertarian"? You think libertarians are big fans of consumer protection laws?
Wow, you just forgot that several posts earlier you stated that it was fair to rate a Republican candidate against Free Market ideals even if you yourself didn't believe in the Free Market. My reference to libertarianism was in the context of this free market ideal that you seem to think he should have upheld throughout the rest of his presidency yet you blame him for not regulating at the proper time. The nonsense I'm referring to is your illogical nonsense.

Your expectations require that Bush be a true free market capitalist who then decides to regulate at the exact moment to stop the economic crisis. This issue was from socialistic government sponsored lending institutions who then ran rampant under deregulation. From my perspective, we just shouldn't have messed with the market but you apparently believe that it is the government's responsibility to tinker and then blame the free market when government meddling failed.

So not only did you misallocate this oxymoron towards myself, but it was your expression that was truly oxymoronic. It was you that blamed Bush for lack of regulation despite him being of the party of deregulation... while at the same time criticizing Republicans for falling short of their Free Market platform. You can't slam them for being poor capitalists and then blame them for a lack of regulation... it's just silly and it's just hindsight wisdom.

Yes yes Obama won congrats, you deserve a snickers if you supported him. For those of us who didnt, well there is always 2012.

Whats pissing me off right now are all these people outside of the United States congratulating America like it was a good dog and throwing us a treat. While its nice to be reminded that unlike other countries elections, ours actually attract the attention of the entire world, it just gets under my skin when people from one country talk about politics in another country like they actually have some clue about what is best for that country.
New rule: those who voted for Bush in the last two elections should stop talking about things like what's best for our country. I go into fits of laughter that are very hard to stop.
Too true, Most Americans dont know or understand the power they actually have.

You guys have the military capacity to rightly screw the world up very fast, very easily and very effectively. I and the rest of the world would be very concerned if you guys done something that would inevitably screw us all over.

Not to mention that if we look at history as soon as you guys cock it up we all end up followingg suit.

Im not attacking Ameican/Americans by the way just highlighting what can and would go horribly wrong.

mccain didnt lose because he was bush. he lost because he was mccain
he always said how he was moderate, and he was before he ran for president, and then he goes and picks sara palin who is so far right. the old mccain wouldve picked somebody like joe liberman
Yes it is because he was too moderate that many true conservatives didn't vote. Also in reference to Obama and change, 50 years ago the Cubans wanted change look what they got.

Actually, out of all the Democratic nominees that have been in the race since I was born, (Kerry, Clinton, Gore), this is actually the only one I'm slightly alright with. Gore was a nut and Kerry couldn't decide which sandal to put on in the morning (stupid joke), but with Obama he might do well since we are in a time of slight peace (Which is as good time a time as ever for a Democrat :3.)
