I was actually thinking of a rant on the way home... but I'm too lazy and need to leave so I will summarize. I must say that I am more worried at the people are way more focused on the fact that he's the first black dude in the white house than they should be.

I wonder if anybody has made the obligatory "A black man can't be president in the White House" comment, yet. It seems like the sort of thing that somebody should have said by now. I don't agree myself, of course, but I wonder aloud if anybody has made comments along those lines.

Good, that means that Palin won't be given an office higher than the Governor of Alaska.
actually there's some speculation that she might become a senator. see there's a senator in Alaska who was just convicted of a crime, all that's left is sentencing. when he goes to jail he will resign the senate seat giving governor Palin the chance to put someone there. she is allowed to make herself a senator.
Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!
Please can anyone do anything about this.... Seriously?

We my fellow humans are living through real history. This day of November 4th 2008 will be remember for centuries in the history books as a day that American society changed for the better in so many ways in is almost beyond comprehension. We are living in a truly amazing time. This will be studies by children in books in class rooms around the world. The first non-White man has been elected President. We have changed, we have changed forever!
Yet, change doesn't necessarily mean it's for the better. Yes, we've made history, in a small way, but as for his presidency, you're assuming quite a lot. You act as though he's already fixed all of our problems. Frankly, most of his promises and goals are completely unrealistic and virtually unattainable. It's true that this election will be in the history books for years and years to come, but it remains to be seen if his term in office will be written into history because he brought us into some kind of new "golden age" of prosperity, or he just drove us further into the hole we've dug for ourselves.

It'd be funny if, in 50 years time, this presidency is quoted as being the reason why legislature passed in 2013 banned any African American as running for President.

GET IT, CAUSE HE SUCKED SO BADLY AT IT THEY THOUGHT "NO WAY CAN A BLACK GUY EVER AGIAN FUCK US UP THIS BAD!" GET IT!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!
Um does anyone feel like asking for it to get bumped to a week long ban?

Terrible since the Democrats took power in 2006. But then again Democratic subversion extends back at least to the Carter administration if not further.

i wish my parents would listen to you, sadly being 15 i cant vote
I was pretty shocked that my own parents kinda agreed with me this election. They voted for McCain, but that's only because they're single-issue anti-abortion voters who ask Jesus what they should do before they go into the polling booth.

I know a lot of people do this, and I have a problem with it for several reasons, but that's just the way it is. Either way, it's nice to see that even Christian fundies can apply logic a good percentage of the time, even if they don't always follow it.

Hope you're smarter politically at 15 than I was. Lucky you, to be so young and see this historic election. You're a lucky kid.

Here's hoping President Barry won't let us down.

Well, he just ended his first news conference about an hour ago, and he seemed pretty level-headed during the questioning. I don't know what kind of indication that is, but he's still got my confidence in him.

anybody notice the celebrity response so far from Obama supporters? from Michael J Fox's plea for stem cell research to Ellen's digust over prop 8?

I wonder how his supporters are going to feel once they learn that much of the change that they wanted are functions which are outside of the control of the president? He can't fix the economy and he doesn't dicate gay marriage.. .

Though I wasn't an Obama supporter at least I'm happy that we have a President who is intelligent and speaks well.. . .. even if his social plans are totally screwed up.

I see it the other way around. The Republicans have run congress from 1994-2006. They had a Republican President for six of those years. They had plenty of time to make whatever changes they wanted. The Republicans own the Economy and it's their fault it's fucked up.

The economy is owned by the people... its totally broken because of poor lending practices and dumb lendors. It's the fault of all politicians and even Greenspan for believing that all people deserved homes, it's the fault of Acorn for strong arming banks into making those loans when they were not financially feasable and its the fault of the banks for making money off of a dishonest bulk rate selling of non-transparent loans.

Making a partisan statement such as yours is naive at best and potentially dishonest if you knew better.

In the midst of all the celebrations, spare a thought for the hundreds of comedians who've forged careers out of the bush presidency. Hopefully Biden will provide some of them with enough material to keep their jobs.

I hope Obama claims to be "The Decider," I loved that miniseries on The Daily Show. :)

1) Actually, it's the Republicans who encouraged everyone to own a home--they called it the ownership society.

2) ACORN is a group that has to do with voting registration--I don't know about them being involved in strong arming banks.
1) Wrong.. most politicians no matter their party touted the importance of home ownership since it was an ideology put forward by Greenspan. That's why pointing the finger at either side is naive and partisan. All of Congress botched this up and both parties ultimately supported the bail out, complete with pork.

2) Wrong... from wiki, "ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is a community-based organization that advocates for low- and moderate-income families by working on neighborhood safety, voter registration, health care, affordable housing, and other social issues."

Acorn is also currently under investigation for being a slush fund for the Democratic Party. I could care less about their current voter registration nonsense.

Then why did it cause a meltdown now? The Democrats encouraged it with the Community Reinvestment Act, which has been around since 1977. The Bush Zero Down Payment Initiative has been around since 2004. If you think the meltdown has to do with 'politicians pushing home ownership' (HINT: it had nothing to do with it, it's all the other stuff you mentioned), doesn't it seem Democrats did it in a responsible manner, and Republicans didn't?

"advocates" =/= strong arm.
um, yeah... that was a wiki quote that used the term "advocates", not my words. you're initial point was that all they did was voter registration which wasn't true. and it's good to see that you finally agree that the broken economy was a group effort and not just a republican issue.

oh, and the economy collapsed now because the shit eventually hit the fan. you should be blaming the shit thrower though, not the guy currently holding the fan. Bush fucked up a lot of things but he's not smart enough to know how to fuck up a global economy.
