Discussing wether a successor or a predecessor is superior or inferior is in my view entirely and utterly pointless.

Specially concidering that both games are so extremely similar on so many levels and both games being fantastic games. (both concidered Game of the Year)

I found Morrowind to be larger and more open than Oblivion but lacking content.
Oblivion being smaller tham Morrowind but less repeatative.

Seriously. They're both the same freckin' game.

I would have liked them better if skill made a difference to the combat and you could pick your battles (challenges).

So, RPG stats + Soulcalibur

Have to disagree with you, and I find that comment amusing: "it's stupid to insult people because of their opinion, but yours is wrong..."

They also removed several types of spells and weapons, as well as many different combat skills, and made the game (which I remind you is an RPG, not an FPS) count twitch skill over character stats far more than the previous title.
Overall, I'd choose Oblivion's combat style over Morrowind, but you can't deny that some things were lost.
I know what you mean, but I think that most of the changes were for the better. The thing is, that Oblivion and Morrowind are real-time, and therefore action RPGs. Being real-time naturally makes any game more action-oriented, regardless if it's emphasis lies in RPG or strategy. So "twitch skills" will and probably should always be a factor with any real-time game.
Complete reliance and focus on character stats are better reserved for turn-based, or semi turned-based RPGs, like Baldurs Gate.

I think that finding the correct gameplay balance between character stats & player skill is one of the biggest challenges in action-oriented RPG design. Personally, I don't mind if action RPGs start relying more on my abilities as a player, than on my in-game character stats, especially involving features like combat, which are inherently action based.

I honestly think that both games we're terrible, but that's just my thoughts.

I'll let you believe whatever you want and I'll believe what I want. Never let someone else sway your opinion.

I didn't know you could have the right opinion.

.....What? Never let someone else sway your opinion?! I assume you mean dont et people who say "Because I told you so" sway you, but to never let your opinion alter based on others is rather foolish. Not to would ruin the point of any and all debates ever, ruin every civil rights group's goals, and would not allow new thinking to ever come to be. Not to let your opinion be changed by others is to be stubborn and stubborn thinking is a bad thing.

People may like Oblivion more than Morrowind. It's not a crime to have bad taste. :p

Anyways, back on topic for me. I think Morrowind is better, but solely because Oblivion took too much out that Morrowind had and most of it was not a good thing. Seperate armor pieced, the different weapons, and also more interesting and varying armors were nice. Also how you wore things with clothes underneath, armor over that, then a Robe, and belts too. Morrowind was better because it allowed you to make your character the way you wanted them where Oblivion though played better, lessened that and I think TES's best element, is being whoever you can imagine! That is literally why TES is my favorite game series ever.
To a lesser degree but was also nice was things looked more different. Potions, soul gems, more clothes, and though you cant alter the shape of your face in Morrowind, I think you looked more varied in Morrowind. You may bump into maybe 1 clone of you, but in Oblivion you can find maybe not a clone, but apparently you have many long lost siblings. Ofcourse, I dont want to go back to Morrowind's way of character creation, but tattoos, real facial hair, and earings would be a nice addition.

I'm gonna have to say... I love Oblivion, mostly because... I never had even heard of the Elder Scrolls series before it, thus, if I play Morrowind or any of the others, I will lean biased towards Oblivion... Sorry, fans and supporters of Morrowind, I have to take Simriel's side on this one. Though, I do read journal entries, and any quest-related books (Main quest or side-quests) and notes I find. I want to read what I (supposedly) wrote in my journal. XD
I like to read my journal too. When i don't wish to be hammering on with the main plot. But it was the fact that the directions in the journal where tricky to follow, i was just starting out as a gamer at this time so having to read complex directions in order to find things in an open world game was NOT appreciated.
In Oblivion I love the open-world-ness and back-story but hate the excessive amounts of dialogue every character tends to spit out at every chance, so usually I just skip through most of the dialogue, choosing "yes", "of course" and "I'll do it" kind of options and read my journal for the abridged (sometimes GREATLY abridged) version of their life story and "how many wombats they want killed".

I don't see why people who have not played either even bother posting. It is like "Hi, I have no relating input to this, and want to be annoying". Even if we disagree over whether Oblivion or Morrowind is better, we are still TES fans (I hope) and no matter which in the series is better, to me atleast, the series as a whole is better than most games/series out there.

I've played both (oblivion first) and they are both amazing games. However both have flaws and strengths that are completely different ie. magic, hated the chance to cast thing in morrowind but loved the massive variety of spells and stuff to keep it interesting long after oblivions grew boring and i changed character.

A combination of Oblivion and Morrowind would be the best game ever

Thank you. Ofcourse, hopefully next year when TESV comes out, it will be like that, however Oblivion SHOULD have been that already. You are supposed to only remove the bad and add more good furtehr in the series. Oblivion is better for combat because its nice to be able to hit them when you hit them instead of it magically going through and they are fine, but it is also nice to have all this extra stuff to add to the fun. There was no reason to remove spears and individual armor pieces. There WAS a reason to remove some spells, but they need to bring them back, levitation is why I liked Alteration almost as much as Illusion, and Mark and Recall are just usefull spells.

I would like to say that I share your optimism of TESV but i have a horrible feeling it will be an oblivion clone with bits of fallout 3 thrown in (why change a winning formula), still, it's not like I won't buy it...

Seriously; to the OP... you called Morrowind down because it was old and made ticks against it because you couldn't follow simple instructions. Suck it up.
This.

Morrowind had its flaws though e.g. broken combat system at low skill levels, horrible faces, terrible animation in npc's(and the pc when in 3rd person mode).

Morrowind had a much more immersive and varied world with Vvardenfell than Oblivion had with Cyrodiil too. Mushroom towers > english countryside any day of the week.

To be honest. Daggerfall was really the good stuff for me. Unfortunately I can't play it anymore because I'm somewhat a graphics whore so it would hurt too much.

Oh, don't worry about it. I bet those comments putting you down for preferring Oblivion over Morrowind were all just for show. They don't really mean it.
