Morrowind let me find tons of 'legendary' items, things that were unique and were just plain awesome (like a flaming sword) in Oblivion (not counting expansions, I haven't played them) I couldn't find any weapon that was obviously the best weapon ever, nothing made me want to search for antyhing it was just "oh look, another deadric longsword. Hooray."

I am not going based soley on me thinking it will just be out next year. No, it is not solid fact and could easily turn out not true. However they did mention it likely coming out late in 2010, but either I imagined reading that, or due to the scope of the game would take them much longer. (Id rather they take longer than remove even more stuff) Also it would fit their release pattern of 4 years. TES 2 is the only one out of place but if it was released two years later would fit. (Arena: 1994, Daggerfall: 1996, Morrowind: 2002, Oblivion:2006, and if fitting the pattern, TES V:2010)
Doubt me if you want to, you would not be wrong for it, but I still will go on thinking it will be 2010 until they say otherwise, or if nothing happens and it is Jan 1, 2011.
Oh wow, I didn't know you had some sort of thought process behind your post and were just estimating. If my response sounded harsh, that's probably just because I was afraid of getting my hopes up. :p

I like your thinking, but has Bethesda ever done a different game in between ES games? I just would be incredibly surprised (and impressed) if they got another full-scale Oblivion game going if they've been working for so long on Fallout 3, especially with DLC still coming.

To be honest. Daggerfall was really the good stuff for me. Unfortunately I can't play it anymore because I'm somewhat a graphics whore so it would hurt too much.
I always found Daggerfall very intriguing due to the depth and huge size of the world, and I've made a few attempts at playing it. Unfortunately the dungeons... no, let me correct that, the VAST, UNDERGROUND LABYRINTHS always frustrated me to the point of quitting.

So I'm supposed to find that one chalice of whatever in a huge, underground metropolis of ten thousand rooms and endless corridors filled with werewolves, evil arch-mages and dread-vampires of doom? Yeah, right.

No worries. Only other Bethesda game I know was that Star Trek game which was not to the same scale of Fallout 3, and that does actually support it coming out later than 2010.

scaled leveling dealt the killing blow to my favor of oblivion. the good graphics are nice, and pretty, but it lacks the atmosphere of the last game.

in oblivion i constantly found myself thinking "why cant i just ___?" as an example
ok im at the mythic dawn base, i gave the guy all my stuff, got the robes, picked his pocket, grabbed my dagger a bow the rose of sithis(instakill arrow) two elven arrows a couple healing potions my black hand robes and a few of my favorite poisons. why cant i just kill mankar cameron right there!
oh, right, literal plot armor, so the story makes no sense and is full of holes unless you play a run-in-and-hit-it fighter.(on top of being relentlessly unoriginal, a vampire count? oh wow. never seen THAT before) the only quests i actually enjoyed after i figured out that there were going to be no twists, minimal originality were the dark brotherhood (great voice acting in the two most voiced characters, the vampire and the guy who recruits you, the whole thing keeps it classically dark, from the
old inn where you go kill a helpless old man, to the sanctuary where they god rid of 90% of the bloom, to the betrayers apartment
) and shivering isles (iirc sheogorath was well acted and the area had a slightly random whimsical quality to it) it was the atmosphere. if you have no atmosphere in the rest of the game, it doesnt matter if your menu looks like old timey paper or not. if you have a great soundtrack, a world filled with interesting sometimes even original characters, and a great story, it doesnt matter if right click brings up a spreadsheet with a minimap and a picture of your character on it oblivion is just way too limiting. really, http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/75-Oblivion sums up most of my concerns far better than i could. but my thing about elven armor and weapons still stands. i wont go into it for fear of this becoming a full fledged rant.
