I've always loved iNinja. It's a God of War/Devil May Cry hack n' slash with a loud mouth ninja, giant robots, and its fun and challenging. I wish I hadn't sold it.

Also, Sim Golf. Addicting to all hell, and it's such a stupid premise.

Spiral Knights: Haven't played much of it, but it's an adorable top down hack n' slash that reminds me of Zelda II.

Dante's Inferno. Really not that bad. I had more fun with it than any other God of War Game I played.

Grim Fandango. Oh, and Rayman Origins. They released Rayman Origins in a time where it was sure to be forgotten.

Galactic Civilizations II. A brilliant strategy game made by Stardock, with plenty of humour, depth, and replayability. The ship designer is neat, modding is easy and worthwhile, the expansion packs significantly improve the game (be sure to play on the most recent expansion pack), and there is no DRM whatsoever.

Stardock is my favourite game studio, and was even before I knew what a "Shamus Young" was.

So is this a sequel to the longest journey? I've heard a lot about that game and should probably pick it up.

But what system is this for? Please don't tell me only PC, because this looks really interesting. I really like the visual style and the character animations seem pretty lifelike. Plus the soundtrack sounds awesome!
I think you can get it to the old xbox.

inb4 cult classics such as Psychonauts, Ico, or Beyond Good and Evil (I love all 3 games - Ico a little grudgingly - but let's not kid ourselves, they're no longer "obscure" by any means)

OT: Majin and The Forsaken Kingdom gets my vote. Great game, it's sad its release passed over so many heads.
I very much second this. Such a wonderful game! Fun gameplay with surprisingly good AI, and absolutely enchanting in terms of audiovisual presentation. Everyone should at least give this one a try. :)
Ill agree with both of you two. Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom is a great game. Ive just never come across anyone in person who has played it.

Have you ever heard of a game called Croc: Legend of the Gobbos? If you haven't, welcome to the club. It's this obscure 3D platformer for the PS1 and PC (I have the PC version) that's MUCH better than the world gives it credit for. 'Twas the game that got me into gaming in the first place!

My vote has to go to Hector: Badge of Carnage [http://www.telltalegames.com/hector], an adventure game from Telltale for all of $20 USD, a hilarious, tasteless and unapologetically British adventure game of the old school.

I picked it up on a whim for Chrimstmas, and it proved to be one of the most well-written, clever, and very well voice-acted games I'd played in a very long time. They've basically taken a basic game model, but polished all of the elements to a real shine. Very hghly recommended.

This is Dreamfall: The longest journey which is a sequel to the longest journey which came out in 1999 (in Europe, 2000 in NA) on PC only.

There is no way your PC would not be able to run the original longest journey unless it is 13 years old. You can buy the original on GOG if you want.

Chase the Express. PS1 Survival Horror style game as imagined through the eyes of Tom Clancy. Love the former, hate the latter but it worked. In a similar vein, Hard Edge. Resident Evil as though filtered by way of Streets of Rage, then anime.

I can't write "Final Fantasy XII" enough. Not obscure, but underrated as hell.

I'm about 40 hours in, and it has the best everything in a FF game since IX, or maybe even as far back as VI or VII. The setting is realized, open, large, feels alive, is visually cohesive, and dangles carrots in front of you Zelda-style for you to go out and explore. The characters are subtly layered instead of using loud whining to pass for "development." Imagine that! Looking into Ashe's wavering eyes to see doubt, temptation and fear instead of having it be spelled out for you. Or Balthier's hatred for his father be so in character that at no point did it ever look even close to "whining" or "attention seeking." Imagine HAIR THAT IS REALISTIC. Enough said.

The plot is full of intrigue and doesn't jump the shark. The writing itself is at best the most mature FF writing ever and at worst charmingly ostentatious. The battle system is classic FF with the added bonus of programming Gambits if you want to take some busy work out of your experience...It's the most considerate FF game ever without being "Easy." The only weakness is probably the music, but even that doesn't outright suck at all.

It's not just my favorite FF, but one of my favorite games of all time now. I can't grasp that I'm playing a FF game that feels like a Zelda game. It's wonderful, and it will be criminal if it doesn't see a Vita HD port.

I can't damn the fanbase enough for including it in their "Decline of Square" nostalgic circle-jerks. They saw FFXII, and essentially said "I don't want quality and options. I want teenagers writing the plot again. I want Staind and Linkin Park to write the characters and dialogue again. I want the visual design to make as much sense as reading Finnegan's Wake while smearing a turd on my face, and I want it to look more real than reality all at the same time. I also want grinding to feel like trying to move a building with your bare hands once more." And when Square caves in and gives them precisely what they want in FFXIII, they complain more! Aren't they interesting?!

Well, well, well...Looks like you're my result from the cloning machine (except I had the PS1 version). Hell, the Baron part of my username came from the games villain, Baron Dante! Ahhh...such memories. Must dust off the PS1 and replay it again some time (along with Spyro 3 and MediEvil).

And on that note:
MediEvil. A PS1 hack/slasher which to this day remains one of my favourite games of all time. You play as an undead knight called Sir Daniel Fortesque and who while hailed as a hero by the townspeople of Gallowmere the actual Sir Dan was really a coward who died in the first hail of arrows. So after being ressurected by the guy you supposedly killed in life you get to redeem yourself and actually kill him and restore peace to the land. The game is able to be dark and creepy while still retaining a good sense of humour to it (unlike the remake which toned down the darkness and upped the humour in a really bad way) and the games atmosphere is really aided by the hauntingly beautiful soundtrack. It was able to spawn a sequel MediEvil 2, which while still good it did take out some things which made the original hold a special place in my heart by adding in a romance subplot, characters which more than overstayed their welcome and a villain which didn't seem as threatening as Zarok from the first game (which is REALLY saying something). I still live in hope that there'll be a third game regarding the cliffhanger of MediEvil 2's ending and as futile as it is, I will continue to wait.

It seems that many of the hidden gems were released on either PS1 or PS2. Not supprising consider the PS1 has 2,418 games and the PS2 has 2,016 games.
Its likely because it was during the 5th and 6th generation where consoles were powerful enough to allow for most gameplay ideas to be implemented but were not so powerful that development costs were extravagant, allowing for more experimenting.

Descent: Freespace. Oh my God so much Descent: Freespace. I can't believe that there hasn't been a homeworld-esque RTS set in the Freespace universe. It's got some of the coolest ship design ever and the game design is rock solid. Great games.

Also, Tenchu. Nobody likes Tenchu and that's a damn shame.

I'm going to go with Shadowman and Re-Volt both from Akklaim games, Shadowman is actually a Metroid Prime esque third person shooter, or actually no, did you ever play Turok (the one made by Akklaim and Iguana not the reboot made by some other studio I don't care about) because it's like that but way better and with a much cooler story.
And Re-Volt is a racing game in which you play with remote control cars, just trust me it's really good if you like racing games, in fact it's so good that to this day there still are people playing it online and making mods even though it was released all the way back in 1999.
Both games are available in N64, PS1, Dreamcast and PC, I had the PC version of both games and if you can get you're hands on them, well with Shadowman you'll do about the same with the Dreamcast and PC version so it's no big deal which one you get but with Re-Volt I definitely would recommend you get you're hands on the PC version so you can play online and so you can play with the mods, a lot of the extra tracks are pretty damn awesome.

I wish someone would re-release those games because I lost my copies and I can't play them any more, but trust they are awesome, specially Shadowman but if you like arcade style racers I think you'll enjoy Re-Volt as much as I did.

The reason I don't want it to be PC only is because I have a Mac :( But I already looked it up on Steam and got sad. It sucks because there are a bunch of older games I want to experience and can't.
