I've got a pretty bad headache at the moment and I've already taken some Advil for it, but I've remembered a trick someone showed me to lessen the pain of a headache that can be quite useful if you don't have any medicine handy. What you do is lightly pull on your ears going from top to bottom and back and after a little bit it usually has relieved at least some of the pain.

What I'm wondering is, what are some other ways you guys have heard of to dull an headache that do not require any sort of pharmaceutical pain killers?

In the medieval times, some doctors practiced drilling holes in their patient's foreheads to cure a headache. This was thought to let the demons out...

Or so I've heard.

(Stick with the modern medicine. Home grown remedies are cute and all, but what really works is what's proven.)

Maybe I should change that to ways that aren't just as likely to kill you as they are to relieve your headache, but yeah I remember reading that as well.

Masturbation or Sex. The actual act of Orgasm gets the blood flowing around and releases plenty of endorphins and what nots and tends to make your headaches go away after a few minutes. This isn't a "home remedy" either, it's been proven in quite a few sources.

Well, caffine, but that stuff's a killer during evenings. It's my go-to during the day.

My mother had some ear weight magnet things for that specific reason, it was somewhat distracting so it did help get my mind of the headache, so I guess it kinda worked, besides that, well I used to put a bag of ice on my head, that's it though.

I found that if you drop something REALLY heavy on your foot, all the headache pain suddenly goes away!

hitting yourself in the elbow with a hammer works. Or rather, it takes your mind off the headache.

I find masturbating/sex followed by a nap for 45 mins sorts me out, if it fails then I take a couple painkillers with water and toast and go for a walk

Homeopathy works :p

Seriously don't try homeopathy but cocaine, ice and vodka take an anvil/panadol and wait it out. Distract your mind and play a game.

This thread is relevant to my interests. I require this information, due to my 2-year long headache not being less painful with any normal techniques.

2 year long headache? Get that checked out man jeebuz.

OT: I usually just take some aspirin and take a REALLY hot shower. I don't know why but hot showers get rid of them for some reason even though you're not supposed to heat yourself up when you're head is hot.. it's weird. Try to keep your head as cool as possible as well. No headphones and maybe a fan blowing.

No, it's not chronic. The thing is, several hours of video game+idiots & assholes+me not eating in several hours/the occasional off day(damn you end of Daylight Savings) usually results in a headache. And at the time of writing this I am much better.

*is reminded of the many times he's put his elbow down on something only to have an extremely sharp pain shoot up his arm*

Just remembered that kind of massaging the skin on top of your head can also help alleviate some of the pain.

I usually just ride them out, I never take drugs for headaches; or any other ache for that matter.

At the moment I've had a 6 month long headache, it has a special name too; "newus shittus employmentium". Currently soothing this one with alcohol.

Take a nap with a kitty. Put your head on their soft little purry tummies and sleep. Headache will be gone when you wake up. Short of kittes? Take a nap in a sunbeam.

... Works for me, anyway.

I suffer from a chronic/transformed migraine (yay!), so I feel like Ive tried everything to treat it.

One odd thing I do to alleviate my headache is put a hair clip on my brow. It sounds really weird, but I get most my headaches behind my eye. Attaching a hair clip to my brow really helps! I leave it on for a few minutes, then take it off, and repeat. Not sure what the magic is behind doing that, but I love it.

Get some real weird looks at work though...

My neurologist has consistently offered botox as a treatment, which is another thing I find strange for treating headaches.
