Three words:
Carnifex Hand Cannon.

This pistol is pretty much the bane of everything in the Mass Effect universe.
It's even the last weapon Shepard uses in ME3, and is given to you by Mordin Solus.
The Carnifex? BAH. The Carnifex was absolutely Terrible compared to the Phalanx. Now THAT was a hell of a gun.
Difference is that by the time the Phalanx showed up, you never even needed pistols because every class of soldier could carry every weapon type. You could have a biotic with a Raptor semi auto rifle and Incisor sniper rifle, and that was all you'd ever want. In ME2 when pistols actually mattered, the Carnifex was the most beastly handgun on the market. And that, is where the fond memories come from.

Perhaps in ME3 but in ME2 the Phalanx was the better gun. Better range, better fire rate, more accurate, more damage per clip, and it actually FELT like a magnum. The Carnifex felt like a peashooter in comparison.

Remember in Halo: CE when you switched to your pistol not because it was quicker to reload, but because it was better? XD

That thing was op as fuck! The silent cartographer level was like "Here are some rocket launchers to deal with the hunters" and I was like "lol nope. I've got a fuckin' pistol."

... Good times XD
Ditto. In multiplayer that was a 3-hit kill (1 if unshielded), in campaign it was one of the few weapons good against both the flood and the covenant. Anyone remember taking down that banshee in the 2nd level with nothing but the pistol?

In Battlefield 3 and the first CoD Black Ops I think I've scored more kills with pistols than any other weapon in the game. High mobility classes are awesome!

Ah, the pistol.
The dependable sidekick that swoops in when the hero (main weapon) can't get the job done.
Unless, you know, it's one of those games where the pistol is depicted as a peashooter that can barely put a scratch on the weaker enemies.

In Bad Company 2, many a foe fell to my Colt M1911. Despite having a pathetic mag size, the shots got the job done. Took about two shots to kill, so it was an entirely feasible self-defense tool that could take down several assault rifle toting enemies with a single magazine (three, with one more fairly maimed).
I was hoping bad company 2 would get mentions here. My friend loved that M1911, I found it a touch ineffective compared to the godly fury of the MP-412 REX. Think you can backstab me while I'm sniping? Think again fuckers! I also got quite adept at extreme ranges with that thing, the record I got was something like +450 marksman with the REX. It has the exact same ballistic pattern was the M24.

OT: Above, REX, it is amazing. I like me some Tac 45 in Blops 2 but I'm not a big player of blops. Like me some magnums, etc.

But the best handgun in a game? Literally the best ever, goes to the godly Red 9 in Resident Evil 4.

Lower damage per second? Don't care. Short mag? Don't care. Highest power in class and stopping power bordering on the magnum? Yes fucking please.

Revolver. Tac Knife. All problems in COD can be solved by these two things, and high mobility perks.

Knife. Gun. Knifegun. Commencing Virtuous Mission... now.

That and Dual Tac 45s with Scavenger can demolish any close range opposition (though a single one with long barrel and extended mag is really flexible, on par with the B23R).

And did anyone really get the Blacktail over the Red9 in Resident evil 4?

I don't think the Phalanx was in ME2. I never saw it if it was.
DLC. Firepower Pack.

Pffft Dual pistols are for pansies. Real men just need the one. Also, thanks for the MGS3 reference, I now consider you among my favourite internet people because I love MGS3. I maintain that Naked Snake is so badass he can assassinate Chuck Norris with nothing but an ashtray.

I just use the Tac 45 as a sidearm, just for the sake of filling the otherwise wasted slot, it's the first time in COD I've ever bothered using a pistol online because usually they're inaccurate and weak. I prefer my pistols to be heavy brutal things. As a result I generally preferred the machine pistols or w/e as sidearms. Or in the case of MW2 the only sidearm worthy of a man was the SPAS-12... or rocket launchers, because nobody else seems to like blowing up helicopters.

And anybody that used the blacktail over the Red9 is a fool. I mean, Luis uses the Red9! That's all the endorsement the thing needs! That and it makes a nice noise and does the most damage per bullet.

The blacktail isn't BAD, but the Red9 is a hell of a lot more useful. As is the Matilda. But I prefer me some Red9. And the first Shotgun. And the bolt sniper.

Raw damage output is the priority!

Counter Strike. Dual Berettas. Sod the Deagle, it might have the punch, but it ain't got the charm.

Seriously, it's all I ever buy. It makes me feel like I'm some sort of cowboy gunman. Then I pinch a proper gun from some dead guy. It's economic!

The Pistol in Doom is truly useless, especially since it uses Chaingun ammo for a fraction of the damage.
Honestly can't think of any games I liked using the pistols on, except maybe the Red Dead series but those are Wild West so you kind of can't not use a revolver.

The pistol in Natural Selection 2 is more accurate than the assault rifle, it is frequently used when you have the drop on an alien who hasn't noticed you and it can fire as fast as you can pull the trigger.

I love using a pistol in games.

One of my fondest moments in gaming was playing "The Opera" mod for Half Life. Whats better than 1 pistol? Akimbo pistols. As I recall there was also an option that allowed you discard your current weapon and fire off "panic pistols" which popped out from your sleeves.'

Why dont more games have panic guns?!?!?

I made it a point to only use single handed berreta in max payne wherever possible. Well at least on the first difficutly playthrough. The pistol is just the most trustworthy part of any arsenal.

Love handguns. My personal favorites are the M1911 from CoD4 and MSG3/4, and the Five Seven from MW3, CS:S, and MGS4.

When did the Half Life Revolver become obsolete? That thing is a one hit kill against any human opponent as long as you can line up the headshot.

I love using pistols in games, especially when they are well balanced. the .45 auto pistol in New Vegas is a favorite of mine.
I loved to save me some Magnum rounds for scientist-executing. It just felt more... "correct" than using other weapons.
you are a horrible, horrible person.

also the magnum manages to one hit kill you in half life deathmatch and it doesnt matter where they hit you.
Muhaha? Actually I always felt guilty afterwards. I usually quick-saved, killed me some white coats, then quick-loaded and carried on like a good citizen. My save history played like an outbreak of schizophrenia.

Usually when I play COD or Battlefield I use the pistol more than I use my primary. Partly for the rage factor that it induces in others and partly because I like the attributes that the pistols have. Usually outside of "That one powerful pistol" they don't have any limiting factor on how fast they fire so it is just as fast as you can click/pull the trigger. Also they have low recoil (usually) and good range.

Absolutely brutal in the right hands.

Ah the pistol. I'm dual wielding as my secondary in the secret world now, just a shame that it doesn't let you fire further than about 11m. Also Halo, that Mag saved my arse so many times. I liked in Forward Unto Dawn where he ditched the rifle to get him some pistol headshots (there may also have been an ammo issue)

I was going to say that the inf-ammo bolt pistol in Space Marine is totally awesome, but then I remembered that bolt weapons are to normal weapons what a hurricane is to a gentle summer breeze.
