Simple question, because I was preparing for a WH40K battle tomorrow and decided to review them...

How many dice do you own?

And, if you feel like it: what do you use particular dice for? Got any lucky ones? Got a special box for them?

Me first... respectively: about four hundred (mostly d6's, obviously, but a few d20's in there somewhere); can't use them all because some are out of date thanks to 5th & 6th Ed., though for the most part, they facilitate the killing of humans, transhumans of various sorts and the occasional alien; nope; dice cubes...

I own about seven die I use for magic the gathering I keep in a falling apart paper deck box, we'll call it the good luck box. I have two I reserve for health purposes, special guild die I got from going to a pre-release. The others are used for tokens and counters in no particular fashion.

I own two. They both come from my Settlers of Catan game.

Yea I'm not much of a tabletop gamer...

I got 5 sets of d4-d20. They've served me well so far, all I've done with them is DM a few Pathfinder with online buddies but they roll high enough to keep things interesting whilst not being unfair.

My first indirect player kill with them was when someone was bitten by a werewolf and had to roll a fortitude save of DC 16 I think it was to not get infected. The... red d20 it was I think rolled a 1 for him. He got put down.

And I've got better than a box. I've got a chest. In fact, I have two chests, one chest contains the other, smaller chest, and that smaller chest contains the dice. If I remember I'll get a picture of them when I get back home, shit's awesome.

I'm not sure anymore. I'd say at least 20-25. I love playing tabletops. Some of those are MTG dice though.

Eh, I've got a bunch of old sustained fire dice I used for wound markers.

Even got one of those old Space Hulk dice which is 5 blank faces and one jam.

Well, since I play 40k and have a tendency to buy a new d6 set whenever my currently used dice disappoint me (like today when I rolled 3 immobilized results on my transports in the first round), I have about 300. About 250 d6's and probably 50 other assorted dice for playing D & D, Pathfinder, and various board games.

Then get outta here! =P I'm sure I posted this on EUNPF as 'thread for dice rollers'! ;D

Anyway, yeah... after reading a few replies, I realised the depth of my (albeit former, haven't bought any since I picked up WH40K again) dice obsession... If I had a sig, I guess I'd be obliged to have it as: The rolling of dice; soundtrack of my existence. ¬_¬

[sub][sub][sub]Hopes no-one picks up the fact that I 'reviewed my dice'!! XD[/sub][/sub][/sub]

I only have 27 D6 in a cube. They are not special or anything thing because they usually get mixed with other peoples dice at the club and I end up taking some of theirs and they end up taking some of mine.

I have Eldar units that put out more than 27 shots on a regular basis but borrowing other peoples dice or re-rolling mine works just fine. Though I wouldn't mind have a set of dice themed to each of my armies. One for Lizardmen, another for Eldar and another set for Dark Eldar.

I have enough. Most of them, I just sorta' found. Might've bought a single set, but totally unnecessary.

I have a mixed selection tucked away somewhere, d4's, d6's, d8's, d10's, d12's, d20's... Havent had a chance to game in ages.

As for lucky ones.... (laughs)

I had a game of warhammer 40,000 (2nd edition specifically) that saw half my army lost in the first turn purely down to a chain of bad dicerolls and a callidus assassin replacing a guardian I'd placed in base contact with my farseer (said assassin doing no damage herself, just her positioning managed to make the chain of misfortune a bit worse than it would have been).

Furthermore the roleplaying club I used to frequent were very loathe to lend me dice if I was short, dreaded any vital test where I was the only one with a viable skill to roll on and used the their mobile phones semi jokingly as shields to block out my 'bad luck' waves. (illustration - I once had a character go into a fight with three guns, an smg and two pistols for backup. I jammed all three in three separate combat rounds)

Quite a lot of d6's. More than I care to count and all of varied sizes and designs. Most from a menagerie of different games; from Yahtzee to Battletech:TCG, from Dungeons and Dragons to Catan.

I've got about twenty d20's. (how fitting) Most from pre-release events for MTG. The rest usually gifts from artist friends.

From there I've got dozens that are a mixture of d4's, d3's, d10's, d8's, d12's, and d30's.

Don't really have any "lucky" ones, but I do have a few I tend to use often among the d20's and the d6's. Notably: I often use the Battletech d6's as "counters" for numerous games. Primarily because they look awesome. And, I usually use my Mirrodin (both blocks) d20's when in need of...well...a d20.

Don't have any d100's, though. Not entirely sure what the point of them is. They're basically just a round ball. Pretty terrible as far as functional dice go.

I have three d20s that I use for Magic. Never really gotten into any other kind of a tabletop game.

Which brings me to the question: why are there different kinds of dice used in games like D&D?

Because you'll often see circumstances wherein you need to roll a random number from a limited number pool.

For example, your character may be using a weapon that can deal a maximum damage of 10. However, since you would need to roll to see how much damage the weapon would actually do in any given instance, you would need to limit the possible outcomes to 10 or less. This is where a d10 comes in handy.

The only dice I own are six sided board game dice.

I never had the good fortune to have friends or a group of people in my area interested in tabletop gaming. v.v

I own about 8 dice in total... only one of those was 16-sided...

However, besides standard board games that needed them and D & D, they were mainly used while playing "a children's card game"...

...I miss getting together with random people to play some D & D... *forgets that this all took place during grade school*

I bought a box of d6's a while ago that have scattered their way around the house. I've got a few d20's, but I've only got two "sets" of gaming dice(d4,6,8,10,12,20).

I have 3 sets of dice, 7 pieces a set. A transparent teal blue, another transparent yellow, and a solid blue and gold set. And they are all contained inside my big (for a dice sachet) navy blue suede sachet.

In each set, there's a d4, d6, d8, 2 d10's (00-90 and 0-9), a d12, and a d20.

I had to get a third set because my current weapon does 3 d4 damage, and I always had to borrow from the GM's big pile of dice.
