Yes, some actually do. That is not to say that removing "offensive" content actually does jack shit to help society. For some people crying for removal of content is just a socially trained behavioral plague, like writing "lol" at the end of every sentence.

Things don't usually bother me. If someone is being serious and throwing a bunch of sexist shite my way I get defensive before I start getting offended. I start seriously getting offended when someone goes after my family and friends. I'm very protective of them. Make fun of me all you want just not them. I will act offended but in reality most of the time I'm not.

Offensive is fine, it's not nice by any means but it isn't evil or anything. Insensitive at worst, inappropriate at best.

Most things you do are likely offensive for some reason to someone somewhere. If anyone ever told you that you had a right not to be offended, they lied.

Abusive is something else, that's kicking someone while they're down. Some groups already receive a LOT of offensive attention, and anyone can be reasonably expected to know that due to it's prevalence. Adding even more offensive remarks to that I'd consider abusive, which is not fine.

This is of course dependant on time, area and the group involved. A Muslim joke might be just offensive most of the time, but right after a huge protest against mosques it'll be abusive. Pulling a prank on someone for being gay is likely offensive most of the time, but if he's coming out and having a very hard time it'll be abusive. etc.

I'm white, English, male, straight, and an atheist, of normal height and weight. I haven't been offended by anything since I was 8-years-old and someone called my Pokemon cards, "not very good".

Everyone should learn to take the piss once and awhile. If people didn't take every little thing so seriously, there'd be less conflict.

I understand being offended, but I try to laugh at myself as much as possible- to remind myself that there aren't that many things worth getting offended over.

This sums it up nicely:

I have always found it more offensive to be left out of the joke. If someone can only mock one race, sexuality, gender, nationality, whatever it says a lot more than if you mock them all.
There is a line between mockery for the sake of humour and mockery for malicious reasons, Its a line that is very easy to see but hard to define.

I don't really get offended when it comes to 'groups'. When people take the piss out of Christianity, I still laugh despite being a Christian. However, there is such a thing as taking it too far so... *shrug* context, as per usual.
Ah, I was waiting for someone to post that :D
Steve says everything I wanna say, but better.
I'll just add that people spelling easy words like "Offensive" with 2 i's, offends me.

I don't really get the post above mine [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.311781-Offinsiveness-and-You#12618005]. And because of that I find it offensive.

Har har, just kidding--but coincidentally, that's the point I make. A lot of times, people are offending by things they don't understand.

Homophobes don't understand gays, white conservative Christian Americans don't understand Muslims, and Japanese cartoons don't understand Bodybuilders--WE'RE BIGGER THAN YOUR SCRAWNY LITTLE STUPID-HAIRED ANTAGONIST, IT'S VERY VERY OFFENSIVE WHEN THAT LITTLE PENCIL-NECKED PRICK WINS IN A FIGHT, YOU GOOFBALLS!!

People should toughen the hell up. Offending people creates waaay more problems than it set out to do, and generally these problems escalate way out of hand.

I wish I lived in a world where everyone wasn't crying bitches.

Yes I understand people may of had traumatic experiences and such, but do anything but take offence by a comment made toward it. It only creates more problems.

A world without offence is a lovely world indeed full of peace and love. Only Fox News will hate what I just said, right?

I used to get offended about sexist jokes, but then my boyfriend pointed out (repeatedly) that jokes are jokes, and people who get offended by them are dumb.

Remember that offensive stuff is not limited to off-color humor. Most of us here are pretty offended when someone makes an ill-informed statement about anything without adequate research to back it up.

I was just recently on the "Scandinavia and the World" webcomics and it was interesting to see how easily offended a number of American commenters were whenever an over-generalized joke was made at our country's expense, while all the other times we were just going, "Hahaha! Those silly Europeans!" I'll admit, I felt a bit offended as first, until I realized that every country was being laughed at in this webcomic. Overall, it was interesting to be the group that gets laughed at for being impulsive and dumb, when national media normally targets the minorities in our country for that purpose.

Overall, I think the most common cause of taking offense is fearing that someone will actually take the joke or statement seriously and think less of your group for it.

DAMN THY NINJA!

I get offended by boy bands... And ninjas.

Getting offended is quite dumb. It's so... Useless.

I am neigh impossible to truly offend. Someone cracks a Yo Mamma joke, I counter with a My Momma joke which is more effective at shutting them up than anything else.
I have no religion and can easily fend off all religious conversion attempts with simple logic, so that is no big deal for me (tis quite enjoyable doing so if I am honest).

I get offended very rarely but I never really act on it. If someone starts directly insulting me, I will start throwing insults right back then triumphantly walk away. If someone takes a crack at something (my faith, my beliefs, my hobbies, my race, my gender or whatever) but not referencing me directly, then I will grumble a bit then go on my way and forget about it. If I truly get pissed off when a joke or something has gone way too far, I have a mild but controlled uproar in private or with a friend of a similar disposition then I feel great.

I never really got the term "offended". I don't get offended personally.

Someone insults me? I agree or disagree, depending on what it's about. Someone says a very racist joke? I laugh if it's funny, and stare at them blankly if it isn't. Someone comes around saying words that I can't post here between every other word they say? I get a bit annoyed by their mutilation of the English language, but I'm not offended. Of course, I don't make racist jokes or swear excessively, but that's not because I'm offended. I just don't find them all that funny, or see a point in excessive rage.

I was playing a game the other day, on a family friendly server. So naturally, bad language was prohibited. I personally don't like that, since I think people should be able to say whatever, but it was made perfectly clear in the rules and I liked the server, so I didn't really have a problem with it. Anyway, I was playing, and someone called someone else a grammar nazi in chat. This one guy pulled a "I'm German and I am highly offended by your use of the term nazi" argument. When the guy who said it tried to clarify "I'm not actually calling him a nazi. Grammar nazi does not in any way relate to nazi germany or-", the guy who got offended replied "Seriously, that's really offending me. Stop using that word, or I'll as ka mod to make you stop".

Needless to say, the mod did nothing about it, and Guy #1 went on being offended. All because Guy #2 said the word "nazi" in an unoffensive manner to Guy #3. If anything, I'm offended by Guy #1 being offended and demanding the others stop.

I generally laugh at jokes that are told in good humor, even if they're about a subject matter that is related to me. But being offensive out of bitterness or spite is poor taste. I don't usually go out of my way to tell people to "remove that line" though; I just stop consuming that particular piece of media in the future.

This comic pretty much sums up my views.

If it's offensive, it's the person's fault. If you're offended, that's your fault.

It's just a joke -__-

People get so up in arms over the most trivial bull shit. go forbid SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE might be mildly offended for half a minute. If only Carlin were still around. We need more people like him to call others out on their bull shit.
