And right from the word go I am so fucking on board with this.

I'm not even a fan of Marvel movies and didn't like the previous Thor standalones. The first one was dead dull for 95% of its runtime and the second one was so-so at best. But Ragnarok looks more like Guardians of the Galaxy in setting and tone. I'm down for that.

(I suspect that the choice of music for the trailer will upset some people though. Don't even know why exactly, just a feeling.)

I'm excited. Looks like they are finally embracing the source material's roots rather than trying to sugar coat everything. Getting major Jack Kirby vibes from the whole thing.

Yeah, this looks so much like they were just told to take Thor and just make it more like The Guardians of the Galaxy.

Not that it still won't be a fun ride of course.

"Hey, you know how Asgard is full of those High Elf style Norse gods? Yeah, fuck that, let's inject a huge dose of Guardians of the Galaxy into this thing! :D"

I'm looking forward to this, it looks completely bananas. :D

If Thor goes back to Earth to find Odin with Doc Strange and Loki, how long will Hulk be in this movie? I hope it's not a bait and switch, they're promoting Hulk quite a bit.

But I am still excited.

Looks fun. My optimism for it is entirely centered around the director, who delivered one of my favorite films of the past five years in "What We Do In the Shadows".

I'm pretty pumped. I've found the Thor movies to be the worst of the MCU bunch but I still love the character and like to see how it fits in with the other movies

Here's hoping it's good!

I see nothing wrong with this inspiration material. If they include some Queen to go with the Led Zeppelin, I'm totally on board.

However, I am a bit confused about one thing.

Ok so, it seems obvious they are pulling some material from Planet Hulk, if only for Hulk's wardrobe. But, wasn't the Planet Hulk story (as I recall watching the cartoon movie of it a few years ago), with a Hulk who was intelligent, could speak just fine, and was, basically, in control of his rage?

I mean, the Planet Hulk movie I remember, he was anything but a mindless rage monster. So, are they going to upgrade him to being intelligent for this? Because it doesn't seem like it from the bit we see.

As I said in the thread that the staff made about this. I am trying to not get too hyped, that increases the chances that the movie wont go under my expectations. But they are making it really difficult :D

The Planet Hulk was also precluded by a story about how Tony Stark, Stephen Strange (and a lot of people not part of people not in the MCU) decided to put Hulk on a rocket and thrown into deep space. Since this movie takes place concurrently with Civil War and no one mentions it, I am guessing they changed that and we are not going to see an "accurate" adaptation of any of the books. Besides, Hulk intelligence varies a lot with each writer. Sometimes he is a rabid animal, sometimes he is a slow person... a story like Planet Hulk would have been a lot more difficult if Hulk had the mental skills of an orangutan.

My guess is that he was brought there, and possibly mind controlled by Loki to fight Thor, which would make it a lot closer to the "Hulk vs Thor" cartoon movie than to Planet Hulk or Thor Ragnarok.

Aaaaand with that, I am actually curious now, because What We Do In The Shadows is also one of my recent favorites.

That's one trashy trailer. Funny quip though.

In a trailer-science way I'm curious to see the "general audience" trailer they are eventually going to release, because this one relies 100% on people recognizing the MCU (hence it's just a teaser).

So that new trailer looks pretty goofy and fun. :)

"We're friends from work."

Okay, now Hulk and Thor in the Office is stuck in my head.

It's because Led Zeppelin is objectively dog shit. Yes, millions of fans are wrong. They suck. I'm right. Get over it. Moving on.

I actually liked the fantasy-ish Asgard setting. It gave a lighter feel to an otherwise hard universe. Hopefully they don't lose that entirely just to hop on the GotG hype. That said, destroying Asgard does present a lot of good opportunities for world-building (ironically). Maybe the other space-faring civilizations secretly despise Asgard's high and mighty feel. Thanos likely saw Asgard as a formidable foe, so I'm sure it being destroyed would be impetus for him to... do anything.

Probably a good amount. Marvel cannot make standalone Hulk movies due to licensing issues so they have to make due with putting him in other titles. It'll be interesting to see how Hulk went from self-imposed exile to being in space.

Yeah I know they stuck him on a ship due to being too dangerous, that was the opening scene of the movie. I was just curious, since they were obviously dressing him up as that particular Hulk, if we were going to see Smart Hulk suddenly. I guess, it's just window dressing for the fans of that particular run of Hulk, without any of the actual substance of Planet Hulk. Sadness
