Style is all over the place, what's with the retro synthwave text on Led Zeppelin.

I'll try to be optimistic, but after how Josh Trank's Fantastic Four turned out, I'm not all aboard on the 'let's give blockbusters to indie directors' train.
Neo 80's seems to be very in right now. With huge successes like Stranger Things or indie stuff like Kung Fury, the marketing industry seems to have taking a very strong notice. I have a theory it might have a lot to do with schools during the 90's before the internet. Most people that I know all remember how schools tended to use the same videos or documentation that was very dated. So even in, say 95, they would still be watching educational VHS tapes from the late 80's with the same type of title intros we are seeing with GotG and now Thor. Hell, I think even the new Spiderman has a throwback bit to those types of videos.

As for the music, the Immigrant Song has lyrics is in line with Norse mythos (as this thread has pointed out), but I think it has more to do with the wailing and staccato beat that seems to draw attention to it. I felt Wonder Woman's theme had a similar sound to it and noticed how most people seemed to say it was the best piece to come out of SvB. I'm not a music expert, so I'm sure someone that is might have more reasoning why this is.

As for the indie director thing, it an easy way for Disney to keep their directors on a short leash. The directors have enough vision to come up with just enough creativity to give the movie some personal flair, but not enough industry clout to challenge the studio if they want something changed (The Edgar Wright Antman debacle comes to mind).

Sorry so the trailer for the most part shows Asgard being destroyed, Thor being defeated quite extensively, him then being imprisoned, tied up in chains dangling over fire and brimstone but because it has ONE, that's right just ONE comic quip and some 80's music it is suddenly going in the same direction as GOTG?

Anyone else thinking that the music choice is a hint, we all know GOTG are going to be in Infinity Wars so why not drop a hint at them finally meeting Thor in his last movie by pulling the same classic music trick. The classic music trick is ostensibly linked to GOTG so seems weird to do the same thing with Thor unless, Marvel are perhaps hinting at something.

Remember Marvel thinks long term they don't just use music in their trailers simply because they also happen to own the rights to that music.

I'm not up to speed on actual Norse mythology, or if this is an actual comic run in movie form, but does Mjolnir get destroyed in the actual mythology?
Nope. Definitely not.

Thor does, after a manner. He and the Midgard Serpent kill each other during Ragnarok. But Mjolnir was never mentioned as having been destroyed.

Executive meddling reportedly had lots and lots to do with that incarnation of the FF sucking so badly. The Director's Cut version (which was chopped up by the studio executives) was reported by those in the know as actually being good.

And none of us will ever get to see that version, ever. :\

Guess they're done playing Thor for drama huh..
Did they ever start?
Oooh, they were tryin'!

So, this is how Ragnarok looks like? I imagined it being more like an endless winter with war and cannibalism, but i know that Thor comics differ significantly from it mythological inspirations, and that's about how much i know about Thor altogether. Previous movies didn't grasp me to say the least, so i'm open to this.
EDIT: Wait, FF guy is responsible for this? No i'm concerned.

There is no comparison. Trank had only directed a couple of films which were "okay." Waititi has been nominated for an academy award, and his last three movies all broke NZ box office records, with his last movie at 97% on the Tomato-Meter. Trank is the kind of director who would have won Project Greenlight. Waititi is the kind of director who would insist the production hire indigenous Australians in the production crew (and he made it happen.).

Waititi has a proven track record of making great movies. Trank unfortunately does not.

So is this perhaps pulled from one of the comic book storylines for Thor? Comics love their shocking development story arcs, and destroying Mjolnir seems like the kind of thing they'd do to up sales.

There is a comic book story line called Thor: Ragnarok, but the movie is not an adaptation of it. It seems to be an original story with some elements of Planet Hulk thrown in.

As for the breaking MewMew thing, that has probably happened in the comics. Several times. Or Thor proved himself unworthy and couldn't lift it anymore. Also several times. Not familiar enough with Thor to tell for sure.

Yeah the "no longer worthy" thing I'm very familiar with, was just curious if the "Mjolnir Destroyed!" was another arc I wasn't aware of.

That arena scene makes me feel like the 'What was Thor doing during Civil War?' clips are now canon....

One quick google later and it turns out MewMew has been destroyed 6 times [http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Mjolnir#Destruction] in the main Marvel continuity. None of them seemed to involve Hela tho.

Would you kindly fucking call the hammer by its real name? It's triggering me so hard.
Darcy Lewis, and anything that comes out of her her stupid ignorant mouth, is just cancer.

Wasn't overly fond of the first two Thor movies, especially as a fan of Norse mythology, but this trailer actually gives me hope for the this Thor movie.
I get the feeling they've taken a bit of inspiration from GoTG, which is A-Okay in my book.
Actually feeling a tinge of excitement for this one. Third time's the charm, huh?

Well, it looks fun. They're obviously pandering as hard as they can with the winged helmet and the Hulk cameo.

One thing I just realised: they're going to have to have a hell of a villain to stand up to Thor and the Hulk when they inevitably team up.

...I, uh, just realised that the villain is Hel. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hel_(being)] I did not intend that pun.

And just what is the "real" name to you? Seeing as I've found 3 different spellings, if you include the little dots over the O in the name. And seriously, if THAT is the kind of thing that triggers you, just get over it.
