I kinda meant that that was the only one where when you went exploring randomly you actually found something and that pretty much every building had a developed story for itself.
Oh, I see. I just generally don't consider the environmental details or side quests involved really part of the overarching 'main' storyline that we're off the beaten track for in this example. Cool then. I'd love to discuss some of the other titles you mentioned, but I haven't actually played them. So... without any further input...

Borderlands, as someone said, you get the story in the end.

Crackdown. I was too busy killing everyone to realize I should be killing the gang leaders instead of the poor civilians.

Oblivion, I have spent about 100 hours just running around doing side quests, exploring, getting into guilds, ect. I haven't even started the story.

During Halo, particularly at the point where you emerge into the ice and snow after going through the "Library" and everyone's a zombie, I always stop and say "What was happening again?"

Same with Quake 4 and F.E.A.R. at some points. You just get so wrapped up in gameplay with no one telling you what is going on that you forget.
FEAR was terrible with explaining what you were doing. I never knew what I was doing and why until near the end of the game.

ON another note did you find the audio in that game unbearable? I played it on the ps3 and found that the screeching of Alma combined with the annoying footstep sound and music caused me to always stop playing the game due to painful migranes.

Any FF game I've ever played, ever.
In VII, I got hooked up in breeding and racing chocoboes.
VIII, I got hooked up in back-tracking everywhere, why I don't know.
IX, didn't play enough.
X, fucking everything that could distract me did. The Blitzball, chocobo training, Calm Lands, side-quests for the Celestial weapons and of course, that bloody airship. My first saved finished game was over 100 hours long because of that bloody thing!
And the latest in FF XIII is Mark Hunting and just wandering Oerba, listening to that amazing music that plays when you get there...

And then of course, you've got your Oblivion, Fallout 3, Viva Pinata, GTAs and Saint's Row 2. Massive time wasters in those games.
You skipped XII. >: ( That had the best side quests. Monster hunting FTW

KOTOR and mass effect i literally did every side quest possible before moving on with the main story

in half life 2 i couldnt avoid doing something completely unrelated to the main storyline because it's impossible to figure out where the f*ck you're going

Plain and simple, have you ever played a game and got so side tracked by things in it that you hardly ever actually did story missions? For me it was Red Dead Redemption, I spent almost a week doing everything you could do, except for the things that actually moved the story forward....
Have you ever done anything like that?
considering if it doesn't have a story i don't buy it... no. I tried it with [Prototype], but fucking around isn't my style

Oblivion. The main story was boring as hell.
Really? I tried doing all the other stuff like people said but found it confusing. Like there was one where I was supposed to follow this lady but no matter how long I did it nothing happened. She just walked around talked to people and went home. After that missoion I was like fuck this shit and played Arkham Asylum

Pretty much all of that game on the PS3 was "Lowest Grade".

You could see pixels in the walls and character maps, characters would poke through the walls, glitches were all over the place, graphics were terrible (no v-sync, nearly turned me epileptic), AI sucked...

If I remember the X-Play review, it got a 2 out of 5 compared to the PC versions 4 out of 5. And that is just because the port was of such poor quality.

I didn't play XII so that's not on the list.

Fallout 3 and GTA are the ones where I ended up post-poning the "main storyline" for a very very long time...

But I totally forget about the storyline any time I'm playing something like Doom or Duke3D or Unreal Tournament or Quake or...etc.

Oh, or any RTS when it's online.

I've done that with every game. I love exploring and finding random crap. I'm the guy who plays God Of War like it's a weird sandbox spoof type map. Or Enter The Matrix (when i thought it was fun, which it was for a time) finding and killing every agent

Everyone says that they get side tracked in sandbox games all the time but I never do. I prefer to follow the story to its conclusion and then go dick around.

Definitely this.
I spent so much time attatching helicopters, sports cars, etc. to the planes as they take off....

It wasn't even me that started playing the story, I gave my sister the controller while I was doing dishes and then lolwutcutscene.

Fallout 3 and Oblivion, the Story must be the least important thing on those games. Why bother with it when you can run around exploring and finding crazy stuff.

Just Cause 2 has a lot of distractions as well. But the story pretty much takes a back seat most of the time so it's understandable.

I don't have one that hasn't been brought up, beaten to death, and then beat continually until long after they're dead. xD THAT aside, Fallout 1&3 ( I never got into 2), Morrowind & Oblivion (I never even found out what Morrowind was about, and I must've spent well over 1000 hours, yes, one THOUSAND [seventeen times through the side quests and factions, and I'm sure I missed a way or two to play 'em] on Oblivion) Red Dead Redemption, Just Cause 2, Crackdown 1&2, GTA IV, etc etc. Oh! And Red Faction: Guerrila. That abomination that most people don't even remember.. Bahahaaa.
