Link's my favorite character, but he has the advantage of existing as several different characters from several different eras, so even if one Link dies, there's always another one.

During the final battle between the villain and the Chosen Four, Ness dies, but sometime before the events of Mother 3 (say, eight to ten years beforehand) Ness is reincarnated in the form of twins Lucas and Claus.

Waluigi and Petey Piranha (Mario Series)

Waluigi is eaten by Petey Piranha, who then dies of indegestion.

My favorite game character is going to/has die. Solid Snake. Unless in the next one its going to be a big twist where they find a cure for him and reverse his aging.

But other than that, Link.

I guess I would have him die from either sacrificing his own life in order to save Hyrule from Ganon or eternal darkness or whatever or I would just let him die of old age, but almost every Link has died of that. Almost each game has a different Link.

Snake's aging process isn't a disease, it's natural for him. He's a clone.
The only real issue was the toxins he was going to release, which Sunny prevented with FOXALIVE.

Always thought the name was dumb.

Anyway, he's already dead. But he lives on in the non-canon Dissidia!
